1And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.2And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.3And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,4As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.5Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.6And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.7And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.8And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.9And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.10This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.11And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.12And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.13He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.14And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.15And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be .16And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.17Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?18And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!19And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.20And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.21But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.22And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.23And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham' house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as God had said unto him.24And Abraham was ninety years old and nine, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.25And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.26In the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised, and Ishmael his son.27And all the men of his house, born in the house, and bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised with him.
Semnul legământului lui Dumnezeu cu Avraam: circumcizia
1Când Avram avea nouăzeci și nouă de ani, DOMNUL i S‑a arătat și i‑a zis: – Eu sunt Dumnezeul cel Atotputernic[1]. Umblă înaintea Mea și fii fără pată,2iar Eu voi încheia legământul Meu între Mine și tine și te voi înmulți foarte mult.3Atunci Avram s‑a aruncat cu fața la pământ, iar Dumnezeu a vorbit cu el, zicând:4– Cât despre Mine, iată care este legământul Meu cu tine: tu vei fi tatăl multor neamuri.5Nu te vei mai numi Avram[2], ci numele tău va fi Avraam[3], pentru că te‑am făcut tatăl unei mulțimi de neamuri.6Te voi face nespus de roditor: voi face să iasă multe neamuri din tine, chiar regi vor ieși din tine.7Voi încheia un legământ între Mine și tine și sămânța[4] ta după tine, de‑a lungul generațiilor ei, un legământ veșnic potrivit căruia Eu voi fi Dumnezeul tău și al seminței tale după tine. (Ge 12:7)8Îți voi da, ție și seminței tale[5] după tine, țara în care locuiești acum ca străin, toată țara Canaan, ca pe o proprietate veșnică. Iar Eu voi fi Dumnezeul lor. (Ge 12:7)9Apoi Dumnezeu i‑a zis lui Avraam: – În ce te privește pe tine, să păzești legământul Meu, tu și sămânța ta după tine de‑a lungul generațiilor ei.10Acesta este legământul Meu pe care trebuie să‑l păziți, între Mine și tine și sămânța ta după tine: fiecare persoană de parte bărbătească dintre voi să fie circumcisă.11Să vă circumcideți în carnea prepuțului vostru. Acesta va fi un semn al legământului Meu cu voi.12De‑a lungul generațiilor voastre, fiecare băiat va fi circumcis când va avea opt zile, fie că este născut în casa ta, fie că l‑ai cumpărat cu argint de la vreun străin, care nu este din sămânța ta.13Trebuie să fie circumcis atât cel născut în casa ta, cât și cel cumpărat cu argintul tău. Legământul Meu în carnea voastră va fi un legământ veșnic.14Orice persoană de parte bărbătească necircumcisă, adică cel care nu este circumcis în carnea prepuțului său, să fie nimicit din poporul său; el a rupt legământul Meu.15Dumnezeu i‑a zis lui Avraam: – În ce o privește pe Sarai, soția ta, să n‑o mai numești Sarai, căci numele ei va fi Sara[6].16Eu o voi binecuvânta și îți voi da un fiu prin ea. O voi binecuvânta, astfel încât ea va deveni mama unor neamuri; chiar regi ai popoarelor vor ieși din ea.17Atunci Avraam și‑a plecat fața și a râs, zicând în inima lui: „I se poate naște un fiu unui om de o sută de ani? Poate Sara, care este de nouăzeci de ani, să mai nască?“18Apoi Avraam I‑a zis lui Dumnezeu: – Aș vrea ca Ismael să trăiască înaintea Ta!19Dar Dumnezeu i‑a zis: – Cu siguranță soția ta, Sara, îți va naște un fiu căruia să‑i pui numele Isaac[7]. Eu voi încheia legământul Meu cu el, ca pe un legământ veșnic cu el și cu sămânța[8] lui după el. (Ge 12:7)20În ceea ce‑l privește pe Ismael, te‑am auzit: iată, îl voi binecuvânta, îl voi face roditor și îl voi înmulți nespus de mult. El va fi tatăl a doisprezece prinți, iar Eu îl voi face un neam mare.21Totuși, legământul Meu îl voi încheia cu Isaac, pe care ți‑l va naște Sara la anul, pe vremea aceasta.22Când a terminat de vorbit cu Avraam, Dumnezeu S‑a înălțat de la el.23Avraam i‑a luat pe fiul său Ismael, pe toți cei născuți în casa lui și pe toți cei cumpărați cu argintul său, pe toți bărbații din casa lui, și le‑a circumcis carnea prepuțului chiar în ziua aceea, așa cum îi spusese Dumnezeu.24Avraam avea nouăzeci și nouă de ani când a fost circumcis în carnea prepuțului său.25Iar fiul său, Ismael, avea treisprezece ani când a fost circumcis în carnea prepuțului său.26Avraam și Ismael, fiul său, au fost circumciși chiar în ziua aceea.27Au fost circumciși împreună cu el și toți bărbații din casa lui, atât cei născuți în casă, cât și cei cumpărați cu argint de la străini.
