1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. 2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. 3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. 4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. 5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. 6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. 7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; 8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. 9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. 10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. 11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. 12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. 13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. 14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. 22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

1 »Und dem Engel (1,20) der Gemeinde in Sardes schreibe: So spricht der, der die sieben Geister Gottes und die sieben Sterne hat: Ich kenne deine Werke (2,2): du stehst in dem Rufe, daß du lebest, und bist doch tot. 2 Wache auf und stärke die übrigen (Gemeindeglieder), die nahe am Sterben waren^[1]! Denn ich habe deine Werke nicht als vollkommen vor meinem Gott erfunden. 3 Denke also daran, wie du (die Heilsbotschaft, oder: das Heil) empfangen und vernommen hast, halte daran fest und gehe in dich! Willst du aber nicht wachsam sein^[2], so werde ich wie ein Dieb kommen, und du sollst sicherlich nicht wissen^[3], zu welcher Stunde ich über dich kommen werde. 4 Du hast jedoch einige Namen^[4] in Sardes, die ihre Kleider nicht befleckt haben; diese sollen mit mir in weißen Kleidern einhergehen, denn sie sind dessen würdig. 5 Wer da überwindet, der wird mit weißen Kleidern angetan werden, und ich werde seinen Namen nimmermehr aus dem Buche des Lebens ausstreichen und werde seinen Namen vor meinem Vater und vor seinen Engeln bekennen. 6 Wer ein Ohr hat, der höre, was der Geist den Gemeinden sagt.« 7 »Und dem Engel (1,20) der Gemeinde in Philadelphia schreibe: So spricht der Heilige, der Wahrhaftige, der den Schlüssel Davids hat, er, der da öffnet, so daß niemand wieder zuschließen wird, und der da zuschließt, so daß niemand wieder öffnet (Jes 22,22): 8 Ich kenne deine Werke (2,2). Siehe, ich habe eine offene Tür vor dir angebracht, die niemand zuzuschließen vermag; denn du besitzest zwar nur geringe Kraft, hast aber doch an meinem Wort festgehalten und meinen Namen nicht verleugnet. 9 Siehe, ich füge es so: aus der Synagoge^[5] des Satans, von den Leuten, die sich Juden nennen, aber es nicht sind, sondern lügen – siehe, ich will sie dahin bringen, daß sie kommen und sich vor deinen Füßen niederwerfen und erkennen, daß ich dich geliebt habe. 10 Weil du das Wort vom standhaften Warten auf mich bewahrt hast, will auch ich dich bewahren aus^[6] der Stunde der Versuchung^[7], die über den ganzen Erdkreis kommen wird, um die Bewohner der Erde zu versuchen^[8]. 11 Ich komme bald^[9]: halte fest, was du hast, damit niemand dir deine Krone^[10] raube! 12 Wer da überwindet, den werde ich zu einer Säule im Tempel meines Gottes machen, und er wird seinen Platz dort nie wieder verlieren, und ich werde auf ihn den Namen meines Gottes schreiben und den Namen der Stadt meines Gottes, des neuen Jerusalem, das aus dem Himmel von meinem Gott herabkommt (21,2), und auch meinen neuen Namen. 13 Wer ein Ohr hat, der höre, was der Geist den Gemeinden sagt.« 14 »Und dem Engel (1,20) der Gemeinde in Laodizea schreibe: So spricht der, welcher (das) Amen ist^[11], der treue und wahrhaftige Zeuge, der Anfang^[12] der Schöpfung Gottes (Kol 1,15.18): 15 Ich kenne deine Werke (2,2), (ich weiß) daß du weder kalt noch heiß bist. O, daß du kalt oder heiß wärest! 16 So aber, weil du lau bist und weder heiß noch kalt, will ich dich aus meinem Munde ausspeien. 17 Weil du sagst: ›Ich bin reich, ja reich bin ich geworden und habe an nichts Mangel‹, und weil du nicht weißt, daß gerade du elend und erbarmenswert, arm, blind und nackt bist, 18 so rate ich dir: kaufe dir Gold von mir, das durch^[13] Feuer geläutert ist, damit du reich wirst, und weiße Kleider, damit du sie anziehst und die Schande deiner Blöße nicht zutage tritt, und Augensalbe zum Bestreichen deiner Augen, damit du sehen kannst. 19 Ich überführe^[14] und züchtige alle, die ich lieb habe. So sei nun eifrig und gehe in dich! 20 Siehe, ich stehe vor der Tür und klopfe an; wenn jemand meine Stimme hört und die Tür auftut, so werde ich bei ihm eintreten und das Mahl mit ihm halten und er mit mir. 21 Wer da überwindet, dem werde ich verleihen, mit mir auf meinem Thron zu sitzen, wie auch ich überwunden und mich mit meinem Vater auf seinen Thron gesetzt habe. 22 Wer ein Ohr hat, der höre, was der Geist den Gemeinden sagt.«
