1 Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom. 2 Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite; 3 And Bashemath Ishmael' daughter, sister of Nebajoth. 4 And Adah bare to Esau Eliphaz; and Bashemath bare Reuel; 5 And Aholibamah bare Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah: these are the sons of Esau, which were born unto him in the land of Canaan. 6 And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob. 7 For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle. 8 Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom. 9 And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir: 10 These are the names of Esau' sons; Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuel the son of Bashemath the wife of Esau. 11 And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz. 12 And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau' son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these were the sons of Adah Esau' wife. 13 And these are the sons of Reuel; Nahath, and Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of Bashemath Esau' wife. 14 And these were the sons of Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon, Esau' wife: and she bare to Esau Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah. 15 These were dukes of the sons of Esau: the sons of Eliphaz the firstborn son of Esau; duke Teman, duke Omar, duke Zepho, duke Kenaz, 16 Duke Korah, duke Gatam, and duke Amalek: these are the dukes that came of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these were the sons of Adah. 17 And these are the sons of Reuel Esau' son; duke Nahath, duke Zerah, duke Shammah, duke Mizzah: these are the dukes that came of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Bashemath Esau' wife. 18 And these are the sons of Aholibamah Esau' wife; duke Jeush, duke Jaalam, duke Korah: these were the dukes that came of Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau' wife. 19 These are the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these are their dukes. 20 These are the sons of Seir the Horite, who inhabited the land; Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah, 21 And Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan: these are the dukes of the Horites, the children of Seir in the land of Edom. 22 And the children of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan' sister was Timna. 23 And the children of Shobal were these; Alvan, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. 24 And these are the children of Zibeon; both Ajah, and Anah: this was that Anah that found the mules in the wilderness, as he fed the asses of Zibeon his father. 25 And the children of Anah were these; Dishon, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah. 26 And these are the children of Dishon; Hemdan, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran. 27 The children of Ezer are these; Bilhan, and Zaavan, and Akan. 28 The children of Dishan are these; Uz, and Aran. 29 These are the dukes that came of the Horites; duke Lotan, duke Shobal, duke Zibeon, duke Anah, 30 Duke Dishon, duke Ezer, duke Dishan: these are the dukes that came of Hori, among their dukes in the land of Seir. 31 And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before there reigned any king over the children of Israel. 32 And Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom: and the name of his city was Dinhabah. 33 And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead. 34 And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of Temani reigned in his stead. 35 And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Avith. 36 And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead. 37 And Samlah died, and Saul of Rehoboth by the river reigned in his stead. 38 And Saul died, and Baalhanan the son of Achbor reigned in his stead. 39 And Baalhanan the son of Achbor died, and Hadar reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Pau; and his wife' name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab. 40 And these are the names of the dukes that came of Esau, according to their families, after their places, by their names; duke Timnah, duke Alvah, duke Jetheth, 41 Duke Aholibamah, duke Elah, duke Pinon, 42 Duke Kenaz, duke Teman, duke Mibzar, 43 Duke Magdiel, duke Iram: these be the dukes of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession: he is Esau the father of the Edomites.

Esaus Familie und Wohnsitz

1 Dies sind die Nachkommen Esaus, das ist Edoms. Dies sind die Söhne Esaus, die ihm im Lande Kanaan geboren wurden. 6 Dann nahm Esau seine Frauen, seine Söhne und Töchter, überhaupt alle Personen, die zu seinem Hause gehörten, dazu auch seinen Besitz, sowohl all sein Vieh als auch seine ganze Habe, die er im Lande Kanaan erworben hatte, und zog von seinem Bruder Jakob weg in ein anderes Land (Seir); 7 denn ihr Besitz war zu groß, als daß sie hätten beieinanderbleiben können, und das Land, in dem sie als Fremdlinge wohnten, reichte für sie wegen der Menge ihrer Herden nicht aus. 8 So ließ sich denn Esau im Gebirge Seir nieder: Esau, das ist Edom.

Esaus Söhne und Enkel als Stammväter

9 Dies sind die Nachkommen Esaus, des Stammvaters der Edomiter im Gebirge Seir. 10 Dies sind die Namen der Söhne Esaus: Eliphas, der Sohn der Ada, der Frau Esaus, Reguel, der Sohn der Basmath, der Frau Esaus. 11 Die Söhne des Eliphas waren: Theman, Omar, Zepho, Gaetham und Kenas. 12 Thimna aber war ein Nebenweib des Eliphas, des Sohnes Esaus; die gebar dem Eliphas den Amalek. Dies sind die Nachkommen der Ada, der Frau Esaus. 13 Die Söhne Reguels aber sind diese: Nahath und Serah, Samma und Missa. Dies waren die Nachkommen der Basmath, der Frau Esaus. 14 Und die Söhne von Esaus Frau Oholibama, der Tochter Anas, der Enkelin Zibeons, die sie dem Esau gebar, waren diese: Jehus, Jaglam und Korah.

15 Dies sind die Gaufürsten^[1] unter den Nachkommen Esaus: Die Söhne des Eliphas, des erstgeborenen Sohnes Esaus, waren: der Häuptling Theman, der Häuptling Omar, der Häuptling Zepho, der Häuptling Kenas, 16 der Häuptling Korah, der Häuptling Gaetham, der Häuptling Amalek. Dies sind die Häuptlinge, die von Reguel im Lande Edom abstammen, die Abkömmlinge der Basmath, der Frau Esaus. 18 Und dies sind die Söhne der Oholibama, der Frau Esaus: der Häuptling Jehus, der Häuptling Jaglam, der Häuptling Korah. Dies sind die Häuptlinge, die von Esaus Frau Oholibama, der Tochter Anas, abstammen. 19 Dies sind die Söhne Esaus und dies ihre Häuptlinge: das ist Edom.

20 Dies sind die Söhne des Horiters Seir, die früher im Lande wohnten: Lotan, Sobal, Zibeon, Ana, 21 Dison, Ezer und Disan. Dies sind die Gaufürsten^[2] der Horiter, der Söhne Seirs, im Lande Edom. 22 Die Söhne Lotans waren: Hori und Hemam, und Lotans Schwester hieß Thimna. 23 Und dies sind die Söhne Sobals: Alwan und Manahath und Ebal, Sepho und Onam. 24 Und dies sind die Söhne Zibeons: Ajja und Ana. Das ist derselbe Ana, der die heißen Quellen (?) in der Wüste entdeckte, als er seinem Vater Zibeon die Esel hütete. 25 Die Söhne Anas aber sind diese: Dison; und Oholibama war die Tochter Anas. 26 Und dies sind die Söhne Disons: Hemdan, Esban, Jithran und Cheran. 27 Dies sind die Söhne Ezers: Bilhan, Saawan und Akan. 28 Dies sind die Söhne Disans: Uz und Aran. 29 Dies sind die Häuptlinge der Horiter: der Häuptling Lotan, der Häuptling Sobal, der Häuptling Zibeon, der Häuptling Ana, 30 der Häuptling Dison, der Häuptling Ezer, der Häuptling Disan. Da sind die Häuptlinge der Horiter nach ihren Stämmen^[3] im Lande Seir.

Die Könige im Lande Edom bis auf David

31 Und dies sind die Könige, die im Lande Edom geherrscht haben, ehe ein König der Israeliten geherrscht hat: 32 Bela, der Sohn Beors, war König in Edom, und seine Stadt^[4] hieß Dinhaba. 33 Nach Belas Tode wurde König an seiner Statt Jobab, der Sohn Serahs, aus Bozra. 34 Nach Jobabs Tode wurde König an seiner Statt Husam aus der Landschaft der Themaniter. 35 Nach Husams Tode wurde König an seiner Statt Hadad, der Sohn Bedads, der die Midianiter auf der Hochebene der Moabiter besiegte; seine Stadt hieß Awith. 36 Nach Hadads Tode wurde Samla aus Masreka König an seiner Statt. 37 Nach Samlas Tode wurde Saul aus Rehoboth am Euphratstrom König an seiner Statt. 38 Nach Sauls Tode wurde König an seiner Statt Baal-Hanan, der Sohn Achbors. 39 Als Baal-Hanan, der Sohn Achbors, starb, wurde König an seiner Statt Hadar, dessen Hauptstadt Pagu hieß; seine Frau hieß Mehetabeel und war die Tochter Matreds, die Enkelin Mesahabs.

40 Dies sind die Namen der Gaufürsten^[5] Esaus nach ihren Geschlechtern, nach ihren Wohnplätzen und mit ihren Namen: der Häuptling von Thimna, der Häuptling von Alwa, der Häuptling von Jetheth, 41 der Häuptling von Oholibama, der Häuptling von Ela, der Häuptling von Pinon, 42 der Häuptling von Kenas, der Häuptling von Theman, der Häuptling von Mibzar, 43 der Häuptling von Magdiel, der Häuptling von Iram. Das sind die Häuptlinge der Edomiter nach ihren Wohnsitzen in dem Lande, das sie in Besitz genommen hatten. Das ist Esau, der Stammvater der Edomiter.
