1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision. 2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see; 3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was , and Samuel was laid down to sleep ; 4 That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I. 5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down. 6 And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again. 7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him. 8 And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child. 9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth. 11 And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle. 12 In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end. 13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not. 14 And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli' house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever. 15 And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision. 16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I. 17 And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee. 18 And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good. 19 And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground. 20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD. 21 And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.

Gott offenbart sich dem Samuel und kündigt den Untergang des Hauses Elis an

1 Zu der Zeit, wo der junge Samuel den Dienst des HERRN unter Elis Aufsicht versah, waren Offenbarungen des HERRN in Israel etwas Seltenes: Gesichte kamen nicht häufig vor. 2 Nun begab es sich zu jener Zeit, während Eli an seiner gewöhnlichen Stelle schlief – seine Augen waren aber allmählich schwach geworden, so daß er nicht mehr sehen konnte; 3 die Lampe Gottes war noch nicht erloschen, Samuel aber schlief im Tempel des HERRN da, wo die Lade Gottes stand –, 4 da rief der HERR: »Samuel!« Dieser antwortete: »Hier bin ich!« 5 und lief dann zu Eli und sagte: »Hier bin ich! Du hast mich ja gerufen.« Jener aber erwiderte: »Ich habe nicht gerufen; lege dich wieder schlafen!« Da ging er hin und legte sich schlafen. 6 Der HERR aber rief wiederum: »Samuel!« Dieser erhob sich, ging zu Eli und sagte: »Hier bin ich! Du hast mich ja gerufen.« Jener antwortete: »Ich habe nicht gerufen, mein Sohn; lege dich wieder schlafen!« 7 Samuel hatte nämlich den HERRN noch nicht kennengelernt, und es war ihm noch keine Offenbarung des HERRN zuteil geworden. 8 Nun rief der HERR wiederum zum drittenmal: »Samuel!« Da stand er auf, ging zu Eli und sagte: »Hier bin ich! Du hast mich ja gerufen.« Jetzt erkannte Eli, daß der HERR es war, der den Jüngling gerufen hatte; 9 daher sagte Eli zu Samuel: »Gehe hin, lege dich schlafen! Doch wenn du wieder angerufen wirst, so antworte: ›Rede, HERR, denn dein Knecht hört!‹« So ging denn Samuel hin und legte sich auf seinem Platze schlafen. 10 Da kam der HERR, trat vor ihn hin und rief wie die vorigen Male: »Samuel! Samuel!« Dieser antwortete: »Rede! Denn dein Knecht hört.« 11 Da sagte der HERR zu Samuel: »Wisse wohl, ich will in Israel etwas vollführen, daß jedem, der es hört, beide Ohren gellen sollen. 12 An jenem Tage will ich an Eli alles in Erfüllung gehen lassen, was ich seinem Hause angedroht habe, von Anfang bis zu Ende! 13 Denn ich habe ihm ankündigen lassen, daß ich sein Haus für alle Zeit richten will wegen seiner Verschuldung; denn er hat gewußt, daß seine Söhne Gott in Verachtung bringen, und er ist ihnen dennoch nicht entgegengetreten. 14 Darum habe ich dem Hause Elis geschworen: ›Wahrlich, die Verfehlung des Hauses Elis soll in Ewigkeit nicht, weder durch Schlachtopfer noch durch Speisopfer, gesühnt werden!‹«

Samuel teilt Eli die Offenbarung mit und beginnt seine Wirksamkeit als Prophet für ganz Israel

15 Samuel blieb hierauf bis zum Morgen liegen; dann öffnete er die Türen des Hauses des HERRN, scheute sich jedoch, dem Eli etwas von dem Gesicht mitzuteilen. 16 Aber Eli rief ihn zu sich und sagte: »Samuel, mein Sohn!« Dieser antwortete: »Hier bin ich!« 17 Da fragte jener: »Was hat er^[1] zu dir gesagt? Verheimliche mir ja nichts! Gott möge dir’s jetzt und künftig vergelten, wenn du mir irgend etwas von allem verheimlichst, was er zu dir gesagt hat!« 18 Da teilte ihm Samuel die ganze Offenbarung mit, ohne ihm etwas zu verschweigen; der aber erwiderte: »Er ist der HERR: er tue, was ihm wohlgefällt!« 19 Samuel aber wuchs heran, und der HERR war mit ihm und ließ nichts unerfüllt von allem, was er angekündigt hatte; 20 und ganz Israel von Dan bis Beerseba erkannte, daß Samuel zum Propheten des HERRN bestellt worden war. 21 Der HERR aber erschien auch fernerhin in Silo; denn der HERR offenbarte sich dem Samuel [in Silo durch das Wort des HERRN], und Samuel teilte dann die Offenbarungen dem gesamten Israel mit.
