1 And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Bethlehemjudah. 2 And his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him unto her father' house to Bethlehemjudah, and was there four whole months. 3 And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father' house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him. 4 And his father in law, the damsel' father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there. 5 And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel' father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way. 6 And they sat down, and did eat and drink both of them together: for the damsel' father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and let thine heart be merry. 7 And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again. 8 And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel' father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them. 9 And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel' father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home. 10 But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two asses saddled, his concubine also was with him. 11 And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it. 12 And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah. 13 And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah. 14 And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin. 15 And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging. 16 And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites. 17 And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou? 18 And he said unto him, We are passing from Bethlehemjudah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Bethlehemjudah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house. 19 Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no want of any thing. 20 And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street. 21 So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink. 22 Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him. 23 And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay , I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly. 24 Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing. 25 But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go. 26 Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man' house where her lord was , till it was light. 27 And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold. 28 And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place. 29 And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel. 30 And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds .

Die Schandtat von Gibea in Benjamin

1 Zu der Zeit war kein König in Israel. Da wohnte ein Levit als Fremdling weit hinten im Gebirge Ephraim und hatte sich eine Nebenfrau genommen aus Bethlehem in Juda. (Jud 17:6) 2 Und als seine Nebenfrau über ihn erzürnt war, lief sie von ihm fort zu ihres Vaters Hause nach Bethlehem in Juda und war dort vier Monate lang. 3 Da machte sich ihr Mann auf und zog ihr nach, um freundlich mit ihr zu reden und sie zu sich zurückzuholen; und er hatte seinen Knecht und ein Paar Esel bei sich. Und sie führte ihn in ihres Vaters Haus. Als ihn aber der Vater der jungen Frau sah, wurde er froh und ging ihm entgegen. 4 Und sein Schwiegervater, der Vater der jungen Frau, hielt ihn fest, dass er drei Tage bei ihm blieb. Sie aßen und tranken und blieben dort über Nacht. 5 Am vierten Tag erhoben sie sich früh am Morgen, und er machte sich auf und wollte fortziehen. Da sprach der Vater der jungen Frau zu seinem Schwiegersohn: Stärke dich zuvor mit einem Bissen Brot, danach könnt ihr ziehen. (Ge 18:5) 6 Und sie setzten sich und aßen beide miteinander und tranken. Da sprach der Vater der jungen Frau zu dem Mann: Bleib doch über Nacht und lass dein Herz guter Dinge sein. 7 Als aber der Mann aufstand und ziehen wollte, nötigte ihn sein Schwiegervater, dass er noch einmal über Nacht dablieb. 8 Am Morgen des fünften Tages machte er sich früh auf und wollte ziehen. Da sprach der Vater der jungen Frau: Stärke dich doch, wartet, bis sich der Tag neigt. Und so aßen die beiden miteinander. 9 Da machte sich der Mann auf und wollte mit seiner Nebenfrau und mit seinem Knecht fortziehen. Aber sein Schwiegervater, der Vater der jungen Frau, sprach zu ihm: Siehe, der Tag hat sich geneigt und es will Abend werden; bleibt doch über Nacht! Siehe, der Tag geht zu Ende, bleib über Nacht hier und lass dein Herz guter Dinge sein. Morgen mögt ihr früh aufstehen und eures Weges ziehen zu deinem Zelt. (Lu 24:29) 10 Aber der Mann wollte nicht mehr über Nacht bleiben, sondern machte sich auf und zog hin und kam bis gegenüber von Jebus – das ist Jerusalem – und hatte ein Paar beladene Esel bei sich und seine Nebenfrau und seinen Knecht. (Jud 1:21; 1Ch 11:4) 11 Als sie nun nahe bei Jebus waren, war der Tag fast vergangen; da sprach der Knecht zu seinem Herrn: Komm doch und lass uns in diese Stadt der Jebusiter einkehren und über Nacht dort bleiben. 12 Aber sein Herr sprach zu ihm: Wir wollen nicht in die Stadt der Fremden einkehren, die nicht von den Israeliten sind, sondern wollen hinüber auf Gibea zu. 13 Und er sprach zu seinem Knecht: Geh weiter, damit wir an einen andern Ort kommen und über Nacht in Gibea oder in Rama bleiben. 14 Und sie zogen weiter ihres Weges, und die Sonne ging unter, als sie nahe bei Gibea waren, das in Benjamin liegt. (Jos 18:28) 15 Und sie bogen ab vom Wege, um nach Gibea zu kommen und dort über Nacht zu bleiben. Als er aber hineinkam, blieb er auf dem Platz der Stadt; denn es war niemand, der sie die Nacht im Hause beherbergen wollte. 16 Und siehe, da kam ein alter Mann von seiner Arbeit vom Felde am Abend; der war auch vom Gebirge Ephraim und ein Fremdling in Gibea, aber die Leute des Orts waren Benjaminiter. 17 Und als er seine Augen aufhob, sah er den Wanderer auf dem Platz der Stadt und sprach zu ihm: Wo willst du hin? Und wo kommst du her? 18 Er aber antwortete ihm: Wir reisen von Bethlehem in Juda weit ins Gebirge Ephraim hinein, wo ich her bin. Ich bin nach Bethlehem in Juda gezogen und kehre jetzt nach Hause zurück, doch niemand will mich beherbergen. 19 Wir haben Stroh und Futter für unsere Esel und Brot und Wein für mich, deinen Knecht, und für deine Magd und den Knecht, der bei mir ist, sodass uns nichts fehlt. 20 Der alte Mann sprach: Friede sei mit dir! Alles, was dir mangelt, findest du bei mir; bleib nur nicht über Nacht auf dem Platz. 21 Und er führte ihn in sein Haus und gab den Eseln Futter, und sie wuschen ihre Füße und aßen und tranken. 22 Und als ihr Herz nun guter Dinge war, siehe, da kamen die Leute der Stadt, ruchlose Männer, und umstellten das Haus und pochten an die Tür und sprachen zu dem alten Mann, dem Hauswirt: Gib den Mann heraus, der in dein Haus gekommen ist, dass wir ihm beiwohnen. (Ge 19:5) 23 Aber der Mann, der Hauswirt, ging zu ihnen hinaus und sprach zu ihnen: Nicht, meine Brüder, tut doch nicht solch ein Unrecht! Nachdem dieser Mann in mein Haus gekommen ist, tut nicht solch eine Schandtat! 24 Siehe, ich habe eine Tochter, noch eine Jungfrau, und dieser hat eine Nebenfrau; die will ich euch herausbringen. Die könnt ihr schänden und mit ihnen tun, was euch gefällt, aber an diesem Mann tut nicht solch eine Schandtat! 25 Aber die Leute wollten nicht auf ihn hören. Da fasste der Mann seine Nebenfrau und brachte sie zu ihnen hinaus. Die machten sich über sie her und trieben ihren Mutwillen mit ihr die ganze Nacht bis an den Morgen. Erst als die Morgenröte anbrach, ließen sie sie gehen. 26 Da kam die Frau, als der Morgen anbrach, und fiel hin vor der Tür des Hauses, in dem ihr Herr war, und lag da, bis es licht wurde. 27 Als nun ihr Herr am Morgen aufstand und die Tür des Hauses auftat und herausging, um seines Weges zu ziehen, siehe, da lag seine Nebenfrau vor der Tür des Hauses, die Hände auf der Schwelle. 28 Er sprach zu ihr: Steh auf, lass uns ziehen! Aber sie antwortete nicht. Da legte er sie auf den Esel, machte sich auf und zog an seinen Ort. 29 Als er nun heimkam, nahm er ein Messer, fasste seine Nebenfrau und zerteilte sie Glied für Glied in zwölf Stücke und sandte sie in das ganze Gebiet Israels. (1Sa 11:7) 30 Wer das sah, der sprach: Solches ist nicht geschehen noch gesehen, seit der Zeit, da die Israeliten aus Ägyptenland gezogen sind, bis auf diesen Tag. Nun denkt darüber nach, beratet und sprecht! (Ho 10:9)
