1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.3For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.4Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.5And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:6For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.7If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?8But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.9Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?10For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.11Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.12Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;13And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.14Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:15Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;16Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.17For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.18For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,19And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:20(For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:21And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)22But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,23To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,24And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.25See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:26Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.27And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.28Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:29For our God is a consuming fire.
1Darum auch wir: Weil wir eine solche Wolke von Zeugen um uns haben, lasst uns ablegen alles, was uns beschwert, und die Sünde, die uns umstrickt. Lasst uns laufen mit Geduld in dem Kampf, der uns bestimmt ist, (1Co 9:24)2und aufsehen zu Jesus, dem Anfänger und Vollender des Glaubens, der, obwohl er hätte Freude haben können, das Kreuz erduldete und die Schande gering achtete und sich gesetzt hat zur Rechten des Thrones Gottes. (Php 2:8; Php 2:10; Heb 5:8; Heb 10:12)3Gedenkt an den, der so viel Widerspruch gegen sich von den Sündern erduldet hat, dass ihr nicht matt werdet und den Mut nicht sinken lasst. (Lu 2:34)4Ihr habt noch nicht bis aufs Blut widerstanden im Kampf gegen die Sünde5und habt den Trost vergessen, der zu euch redet wie zu Kindern: »Mein Sohn, achte nicht gering die Zucht des Herrn und verzage nicht, wenn du von ihm gestraft wirst.6Denn wen der Herr lieb hat, den züchtigt er, und er schlägt jeden Sohn, den er annimmt.« (Re 3:19)7Es dient zu eurer Erziehung, wenn ihr dulden müsst. Wie mit Kindern geht Gott mit euch um. Denn wo ist ein Sohn, den der Vater nicht züchtigt?8Seid ihr aber ohne Züchtigung, die doch alle erfahren haben, so seid ihr Ausgestoßene und nicht Kinder.9Wenn unsre leiblichen Väter uns gezüchtigt haben und wir sie doch geachtet haben, sollten wir uns dann nicht viel mehr unterordnen dem Vater der Geister[1], damit wir leben?10Denn jene haben uns gezüchtigt wenige Tage nach ihrem Gutdünken, dieser aber tut es zu unserm Besten, auf dass wir an seiner Heiligkeit Anteil erlangen.11Jede Züchtigung aber, wenn sie da ist, scheint uns nicht Freude, sondern Schmerz zu sein; danach aber bringt sie als Frucht denen, die dadurch geübt sind, Frieden und Gerechtigkeit. (2Co 4:17)12Darum stärkt die müden Hände und die wankenden Knie (Isa 35:3)13und tut sichere Schritte mit euren Füßen, dass nicht jemand strauchle wie ein Lahmer, sondern vielmehr gesund werde. (Pr 4:26)14Jagt dem Frieden nach mit jedermann und der Heiligung, ohne die niemand den Herrn sehen wird, (Ro 12:18; 2Ti 2:22)15und seht darauf, dass nicht jemand Gottes Gnade versäume; dass nicht etwa eine bittere Wurzel aufwachse und Unfrieden anrichte und viele durch sie verunreinigt werden; (De 29:17)16dass nicht jemand sei ein Hurer oder Gottloser wie Esau, der um der einen Speise willen sein Erstgeburtsrecht verkaufte. (Ge 25:29)17Ihr wisst ja, dass er hernach, als er den Segen ererben wollte, verworfen wurde, denn er fand keinen Raum zur Buße, obwohl er sie mit Tränen suchte. (Ge 27:30)18Denn ihr seid nicht zu etwas gekommen, das man anrühren konnte und das mit Feuer brannte, nicht zu Dunkelheit und Finsternis und Ungewitter (Ex 19:12; Ex 19:16; De 4:11)19und nicht zum Schall der Posaune und zum Klang der Worte. Die das hörten, baten, dass ihnen kein Wort mehr gesagt würde; (Ex 20:16; Ex 20:19)20denn sie konnten’s nicht ertragen, was da gesagt wurde: »Und auch wenn ein Tier den Berg anrührt, soll es gesteinigt werden.« (Ex 19:13)21Und so schrecklich war die Erscheinung, dass Mose sprach: »Ich bin erschrocken und zittere.« (De 9:19)22Sondern ihr seid gekommen zu dem Berg Zion und zu der Stadt des lebendigen Gottes, dem himmlischen Jerusalem, und zu den vielen tausend Engeln und zur Festversammlung (Ga 4:26; Re 5:11; Re 21:2)23und zu der Gemeinde der Erstgeborenen, die im Himmel aufgeschrieben sind, und zu Gott, dem Richter über alle, und zu den Geistern der vollendeten Gerechten (Lu 10:20)24und zu dem Mittler des neuen Bundes, Jesus, und zu dem Blut der Besprengung, das besser redet als Abels Blut[2]. (Ge 4:10; Heb 9:15)25Seht zu, dass ihr den nicht abweist, der da redet. Denn wenn jene nicht entronnen sind, die den abwiesen, der auf Erden den Willen Gottes verkündete, wie viel weniger werden wir entrinnen, wenn wir den abweisen, der vom Himmel her redet. (Heb 2:2; Heb 10:28)26Seine Stimme hat zu jener Zeit die Erde erschüttert, jetzt aber verheißt er und spricht: »Noch einmal will ich erschüttern nicht allein die Erde, sondern auch den Himmel.«27Dieses »Noch einmal« aber zeigt an, dass das, was erschüttert wird, weil es geschaffen ist, verwandelt werden soll, auf dass bleibe, was nicht erschüttert wird.28Darum, weil wir ein Reich empfangen, das nicht erschüttert wird, lasst uns dankbar sein und so Gott dienen mit Scheu und Furcht, wie es ihm gefällt;29denn unser Gott ist ein verzehrendes Feuer. (De 4:24; Heb 10:31)
