1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; 2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. 3 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves; 4 Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. 5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God. 6 Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also. 7 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also. 8 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love. 9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. 10 And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago. 11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have. 12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. 13 For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: 14 But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality: 15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack. 16 But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you. 17 For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you. 18 And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches; 19 And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind: 20 Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us: 21 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. 22 And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you. 23 Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ. 24 Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.

1 Wir tun euch aber kund, Brüder und Schwestern, die Gnade Gottes, die in den Gemeinden Makedoniens gegeben ist. (Ro 15:25) 2 Denn vielfach bewährt in Bedrängnis war ihre Freude doch überschwänglich, und obwohl sie sehr arm sind, haben sie doch reichlich gegeben in aller Lauterkeit. 3 Denn nach Kräften, das bezeuge ich, und sogar über ihre Kräfte haben sie willig gegeben 4 und haben uns mit vielem Zureden gebeten, dass sie mithelfen dürften an der Wohltat und der Gemeinschaft des Dienstes für die Heiligen; 5 und nicht nur das, wie wir hofften, sondern sie gaben sich selbst, zuerst dem Herrn und danach uns, durch den Willen Gottes. 6 So haben wir Titus zugeredet, dass er, wie er zuvor angefangen hatte, nun auch diese Wohltat unter euch vollende. 7 Wie ihr aber in allen Stücken reich seid, im Glauben und im Wort und in der Erkenntnis und in allem Eifer und in der Liebe, die wir in euch erweckt haben, so gebt auch reichlich bei dieser Wohltat. (1Co 1:5; 1Co 16:1) 8 Nicht als Befehl sage ich das; sondern weil andere so eifrig sind, prüfe ich auch eure Liebe, ob sie echt sei. 9 Denn ihr kennt die Gnade unseres Herrn Jesus Christus: Obwohl er reich ist, wurde er doch arm um euretwillen, auf dass ihr durch seine Armut reich würdet. (Php 2:6) 10 Und damit gebe ich einen Rat; denn das ist euch nützlich, die ihr seit vorigem Jahr angefangen habt nicht allein mit dem Tun, sondern auch mit dem Wollen. 11 Nun aber vollendet auch das Tun, damit, wie ihr geneigt seid zu wollen, ihr auch geneigt seid zu vollenden nach dem Maß dessen, was ihr habt. 12 Denn wenn der gute Wille da ist, so ist jeder willkommen nach dem, was er hat, nicht nach dem, was er nicht hat. (Pr 3:27; Mr 12:43) 13 Nicht, dass die andern Ruhe haben und ihr Not leidet, sondern dass es zu einem Ausgleich komme. 14 Jetzt helfe euer Überfluss ihrem Mangel ab, damit auch ihr Überfluss eurem Mangel abhelfe und so ein Ausgleich geschehe, 15 wie geschrieben steht: »Wer viel sammelte, hatte keinen Überfluss, und wer wenig sammelte, hatte keinen Mangel.« (Ex 16:18) 16 Gott aber sei Dank, der dem Titus solchen Eifer für euch ins Herz gegeben hat. 17 Denn er ließ sich gerne zureden; ja, weil er so sehr eifrig war, ist er von selber zu euch gereist. 18 Wir haben aber den Bruder mit ihm gesandt, dessen Lob wegen seines Dienstes am Evangelium durch alle Gemeinden geht. (2Co 12:18) 19 Nicht allein aber das, sondern er ist auch von den Gemeinden dazu eingesetzt, uns zu begleiten, wenn wir diese Gabe überbringen dem Herrn zur Ehre und zum Erweis unsres guten Willens. 20 So verhüten wir, dass uns jemand übel nachredet wegen dieser reichen Gabe, die durch uns überbracht wird. 21 Denn wir sehen darauf, dass es redlich zugehe nicht allein vor dem Herrn, sondern auch vor den Menschen. 22 Auch haben wir mit ihnen unsern Bruder gesandt, dessen Eifer wir oft in vielen Stücken erprobt haben, nun aber ist er noch viel eifriger aus großem Vertrauen zu euch. 23 Es sei nun Titus, der mein Gefährte und mein Mitarbeiter unter euch ist, oder es seien unsere Brüder, die Abgesandte der Gemeinden sind und eine Ehre Christi: (2Co 7:13; 2Co 12:18) 24 Erbringt ihnen den Beweis eurer Liebe und des Ruhmes, den wir euretwegen haben, öffentlich vor den Gemeinden.
