1 Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah. 2 He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers. 3 Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother' name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem. 4 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah did. 5 And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper. 6 And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines. 7 And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gurbaal, and the Mehunims. 8 And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly. 9 Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall , and fortified them. 10 Also he built towers in the desert, and digged many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen also , and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved husbandry. 11 Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king' captains. 12 The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour were two thousand and six hundred. 13 And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy. 14 And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones. 15 And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong. 16 But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense. 17 And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the LORD, that were valiant men: 18 And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God. 19 Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar. 20 And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him. 21 And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king' house, judging the people of the land. 22 Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write. 23 So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

Usija

1 Da nahm das ganze Volk von Juda den Usija – der war sechzehn Jahre alt –, und sie machten ihn zum König an seines Vaters Amazja statt. (2Ki 14:21; 2Ki 15:1) 2 Der baute Elat aus und brachte es wieder an Juda, nachdem der König sich zu seinen Vätern gelegt hatte. 3 Sechzehn Jahre alt war Usija, als er König wurde; und er regierte zweiundfünfzig Jahre zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Jecholja, aus Jerusalem. 4 Und er tat, was dem HERRN wohlgefiel, ganz wie sein Vater Amazja getan hatte. (2Ch 25:2) 5 Und er suchte Gott, solange Secharja lebte, der ihn unterwies in der Furcht Gottes; und solange er den HERRN suchte, ließ es ihm Gott gelingen. 6 Er zog aus und kämpfte gegen die Philister und riss nieder die Mauer von Gat und die Mauer von Jabne und die Mauer von Aschdod und baute Städte um Aschdod und im Philisterland; 7 denn Gott half ihm gegen die Philister, gegen die Araber, die in Gur-Baal wohnten, und gegen die Mëuniter. 8 Und die Ammoniter gaben Usija Geschenke, und er wurde berühmt bis da, wo es nach Ägypten geht; denn er wurde stärker und stärker. 9 Und Usija baute Türme in Jerusalem am Ecktor und am Taltor und am Winkel und befestigte sie. 10 Er baute auch Türme in der Wüste und grub viele Brunnen; denn er hatte viel Vieh sowohl im Hügelland wie in der Ebene, auch Ackerleute und Weingärtner auf den Bergen und am Karmel; denn er hatte Lust am Ackerbau. 11 Und Usija hatte ein kriegstüchtiges Heer, das in Abteilungen in den Kampf zog, nach seiner Zahl aufgestellt durch den Schreiber Jëiël und den Amtmann Maaseja unter dem Befehl Hananjas, eines der Obersten des Königs. 12 Und die Zahl der Häupter der Sippen unter den Kriegern war 2600, 13 und unter ihrem Befehl stand eine Heeresmacht von 307500 sehr kriegstüchtigen Männern, um dem König gegen die Feinde zu helfen. 14 Und Usija beschaffte für das ganze Heer Schilde, Spieße, Helme, Panzer, Bogen und Schleudersteine 15 und machte in Jerusalem kunstvolle Geschütze, die auf den Türmen und Ecken sein sollten, um mit Pfeilen und großen Steinen zu schießen. Und sein Name drang weit hinaus, weil ihm wunderbar geholfen wurde, bis er mächtig war. 16 Und als er mächtig geworden war, überhob sich sein Herz zu seinem Verderben; denn er verging sich gegen den HERRN, seinen Gott, und ging in den Tempel des HERRN, um auf dem Räucheraltar zu räuchern. (2Ch 25:19) 17 Aber der Priester Asarja ging ihm nach und achtzig Priester des HERRN mit ihm, tüchtige Leute, 18 und sie traten Usija, dem König, entgegen und sprachen zu ihm: Es gebührt nicht dir, Usija, dem HERRN zu räuchern, sondern den Priestern, den Söhnen Aaron, die geweiht sind zu räuchern. Geh hinaus aus dem Heiligtum; denn du bist untreu geworden und es wird dir keine Ehre bringen vor Gott, dem HERRN. (Ex 30:7; Nu 18:7) 19 Da wurde Usija zornig, als er bereits ein Räuchergefäß in der Hand hatte, um zu räuchern; und wie er so über die Priester zornig wurde, brach an seiner Stirn der Aussatz aus vor den Priestern im Hause des HERRN am Räucheraltar. 20 Und der Hohepriester Asarja wandte das Angesicht ihm zu und alle Priester, und siehe, da war der König aussätzig an seiner Stirn. Und sie stießen ihn fort, und er eilte auch selbst hinauszugehen; denn seine Plage war vom HERRN. 21 So war der König Usija aussätzig bis an seinen Tod und wohnte als Aussätziger in einem besonderen Hause; denn er war ausgeschlossen vom Hause des HERRN. Jotam aber, sein Sohn, stand dem Hause des Königs vor und richtete das Volk des Landes. (Nu 5:2) 22 Was aber mehr von Usija zu sagen ist, das Frühere und das Spätere, hat beschrieben der Prophet Jesaja, der Sohn des Amoz. (Isa 1:1; Isa 6:1) 23 Und Usija legte sich zu seinen Vätern, und sie begruben ihn bei seinen Vätern auf dem Felde neben der Grabstätte der Könige; denn sie sprachen: Er ist aussätzig. Und sein Sohn Jotam wurde König an seiner statt.
