1 Chronicles 18

King James Version

1 Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines.2 And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David' servants, and brought gifts.3 And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates.4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot horses , but reserved of them an hundred chariots.5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.6 Then David put garrisons in Syriadamascus; and the Syrians became David' servants, and brought gifts. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.7 And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.8 Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.9 Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah;10 He sent Hadoram his son to king David, to enquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.11 Them also king David dedicated unto the LORD, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.12 Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand.13 And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David' servants. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.14 So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.15 And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, recorder.16 And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Shavsha was scribe;17 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief about the king.

1 Chronicles 18

English Standard Version

1 After this David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and he took Gath and its villages out of the hand of the Philistines. (2Sa 8:1)2 And he defeated Moab, and the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute.3 David also defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah-Hamath, as he went to set up his monument[1] at the river Euphrates. (2Sa 8:3; 1Ki 8:65)4 And David took from him 1,000 chariots, 7,000 horsemen, and 20,000 foot soldiers. And David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but left enough for 100 chariots. (2Sa 8:4)5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down 22,000 men of the Syrians. (1Ch 19:6)6 Then David put garrisons[2] in Syria of Damascus, and the Syrians became servants to David and brought tribute. And the Lord gave victory to David[3] wherever he went.7 And David took the shields of gold that were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.8 And from Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took a large amount of bronze. With it Solomon made the bronze sea and the pillars and the vessels of bronze. (2Sa 8:8; 1Ki 7:15; 1Ki 7:23; 2Ch 4:12; 2Ch 4:15)9 When Tou king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the whole army of Hadadezer, king of Zobah, (2Sa 8:9; 1Ch 18:5)10 he sent his son Hadoram to King David, to ask about his health and to bless him because he had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him; for Hadadezer had often been at war with Tou. And he sent all sorts of articles of gold, of silver, and of bronze. (2Sa 8:10; 1Ch 18:3)11 These also King David dedicated to the Lord, together with the silver and gold that he had carried off from all the nations, from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalek. (2Sa 8:12)12 And Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, killed 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. (1Sa 26:6; 2Sa 8:13)13 Then he put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became David’s servants. And the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went.14 So David reigned over all Israel, and he administered justice and equity to all his people.15 And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; (1Ch 11:6)16 and Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were priests; and Shavsha was secretary; (2Sa 8:17; 2Sa 20:25; 1Ki 4:3; 1Ch 24:3; 1Ch 24:6)17 and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were the chief officials in the service of the king. (2Sa 8:18)
