A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.20For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.21Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:22But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.23Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;24Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.25Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.26Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.27Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:28But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.29And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.30And if thy right hand offend thee, cut if off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.31It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:32But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.33Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:34But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:35Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.36Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.37But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.38Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.40And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.41And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.42Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

О соли и свете
13– Вы – соль земли. Если соль потеряет свой вкус, то что может опять сделать её солёной? Она уже ни к чему не пригодна, останется лишь выбросить её вон, под ноги людям. (Mr 9:50; Lu 11:33; Lu 14:34)14Вы – свет мира. Город, стоящий на вершине холма, невозможно скрыть.15Зажжённый светильник не ставят под горшок, наоборот, его ставят на подставку, чтобы светил всем в доме.16Пусть так же свет ваш светит людям, чтобы они видели ваши добрые дела и славили вашего Небесного Отца.
О Священном Писании
17– Не думайте, что Я пришёл отменить сказанное в Таурате или в Книге Пророков; Я пришёл, чтобы исполнить, а не отменить[5]. (Lu 16:17; Lu 24:27; Lu 24:44; Joh 5:39; Heb 10:10; Heb 10:18)18Говорю вам истину: пока небо и земля не исчезнут, ни одна малейшая буква, ни одна чёрточка не исчезнет из Священного Писания – всё сбудется.19Кто нарушит даже самое малое из этих повелений[6] и научит других нарушать его, тот в Царстве Всевышнего будет наименьшим, а кто исполнит повеления и научит этому людей – будет велик в Царстве Всевышнего.20Говорю вам, что если ваша праведность не превзойдёт праведности блюстителей Закона и учителей Таурата, вы не войдёте в Царство Всевышнего.
Об убийстве
21– Вы знаете, что людям ещё в древности было сказано: «Не убивай»[7], и что каждый убийца должен быть судим[8]. (Ge 9:6; Ex 20:13; De 5:17; Lu 12:58)22Я же говорю вам, что человек будет судим, даже если он просто затаил злобу на брата. Кто назовёт своего брата ничтожеством, тот будет отвечать перед Высшим Судом, а того, кто обзовёт своего брата глупцом, ждёт огонь ада.23Поэтому если ты приносишь в дар Всевышнему свою жертву и перед жертвенником вспомнишь, что твой брат обижен на тебя,24то оставь свой дар перед жертвенником и пойди вначале помирись с братом, а потом приходи и приноси жертву.25Поторопись помириться со своим обвинителем ещё по дороге, до того, как он приведёт тебя в суд. Иначе тебя передадут судье, тот отдаст тебя под стражу, и тебя заключат в темницу.26Говорю тебе истину, что ты не выйдешь оттуда, пока не выплатишь всё, до последнего гроша[9].
О супружеской верности
27– Вы слышали, что было сказано: «Не нарушай супружескую верность»[10], – (Ex 20:14; De 5:18; Mt 18:8; Mr 9:43)28Я же говорю вам, что тот, кто лишь смотрит на женщину с вожделением, уже нарушил супружескую верность в своём сердце.29Если твой правый глаз влечёт тебя ко греху, вырви его и отбрось прочь. Лучше тебе потерять часть тела, чем всему телу быть брошенным в ад.30И если твоя правая рука влечёт тебя ко греху, то отсеки её и отбрось прочь. Лучше тебе потерять часть тела, чем всё твоё тело пойдёт в ад.
О разводе
31– Вам было сказано: «Кто разводится с женой, тот должен выдать ей разводное письмо»[11]. (De 24:1; Mt 19:9; Mr 10:11; Lu 16:18)32Я же говорю вам, что каждый, кто разводится со своей женой не по причине её измены, толкает её к нарушению супружеской верности[12], и всякий, кто женится на разведённой женщине, также нарушает супружескую верность.
О клятвах
33– Вы слышали, что ещё в древности людям было сказано: «Не нарушайте своей клятвы и выполняйте всё, в чём вы поклялись Вечному»[13]. (Le 19:12; De 23:21)34Я же говорю вам: не клянитесь вовсе. Не клянитесь ни небом, потому что оно – престол Всевышнего,35ни землёй, потому что она – подножие для ног Его, ни Иерусалимом, потому что это город Всевышнего, Великого Царя[14]. (Ps 47:2; Isa 66:1)36Не клянитесь своей головой, потому что сами вы даже одного волоска не можете сделать белым или чёрным.37Пусть ваше«да» будет действительно«да», а ваше«нет» – действительно«нет». Всё же, что вы к этому добавляете, – от дьявола[15].
О мести
38– Вы слышали, что было сказано: «Глаз за глаз и зуб за зуб»[16]. (Ex 21:24; Le 24:20; De 19:21; Lu 6:29)39Я же говорю вам: не противься сделавшему тебе зло. Если кто оскорбит тебя, ударив по правой щеке, то поверни к нему и другую[17].40Если кто захочет с тобой судиться, чтобы отнять у тебя рубаху, то отдай ему и верхнюю одежду.41Если же кто заставит тебя тащить его поклажу на какое-то расстояние, то ты тащи её вдвое дальше[18].42Тому же, кто у тебя просит, – дай, и тому, кто хочет занять, – не отказывай.
О любви к врагам
43– Вы слышали, что было сказано: «Люби ближнего твоего[19] и ненавидь врага твоего»[20]. (Le 19:18; De 23:3; Lu 6:27; Lu 6:32)44Я же говорю вам: любите ваших врагов и молитесь о тех, кто преследует вас,45так вы уподобитесь вашему Небесному Отцу[21]. Ведь Он повелевает солнцу светить и злым, и добрым и посылает дождь как на праведных, так и на грешных.46Если вы любите тех, кто любит вас, то какая вам за это награда? Не делают ли то же самое даже сборщики налогов?[22]47Если вы приветствуете только ваших братьев, то что в этом особенного? Разве язычники не делают того же?48Поэтому будьте совершенны, как совершенен ваш Небесный Отец.
