1 Az a beszéd, a melyet az Úr szóla Jeremiásnak, mondván:2 Állj az Úr házának ajtajába, és kiáltsd ott e beszédet, és mondjad: Halljátok az Úr beszédét mind, ti Júdabeliek, a kik bementek ezeken az ajtókon, hogy imádjátok az Urat!3 Így szól a Seregek Ura, Izráel Istene: Jobbítsátok meg a ti útaitokat és cselekedeteiteket, és veletek lakozom e helyen!4 Ne bízzatok hazug beszédekben, mondván: Az Úr temploma, az Úr temploma, az Úr temploma ez!5 Mert csak ha valóban megjobbítjátok a ti útaitokat és cselekedeteiteket; ha igazán ítéltek az ember között és felebarátja között;6 [Ha] jövevényt, árvát és özvegyet meg nem nyomorgattok, és ezen a helyen ártatlan vért ki nem ontotok, és idegen istenek után sem jártok a magatok veszedelmére:7 Akkor lakozom veletek ezen a helyen, a földön, a melyet a ti atyáitoknak adtam, öröktõl fogva mindörökké.8 Ímé, ti hisztek a hazug beszédeknek, haszon nélkül!9 Nemde loptok, öltök és paráználkodtok, hamisan esküsztök, a Baálnak áldoztok és idegen istenek után jártok, a kiket nem ismertek:10 És eljõtök, és megállotok elõttem e házban, a mely az én nevemrõl neveztetik, és ezt mondjátok: Megszabadultunk; hogy ugyanazokat az útálatosságokat cselekedhessétek!11 Vajjon latrok barlangjává lett-é ez a ház ti elõttetek, a mely az én nevemrõl neveztetik? Ímé, én is látok, azt mondja az Úr.12 Mert menjetek csak el az én helyemre, a mely Silóban van, a hol elõször lakoztam az én nevemmel, és lássátok meg, hogy mit cselekedtem azzal az én népemnek, Izráelnek gonoszságáért!13 Most pedig, mivelhogy mindezeket a cselekedeteket megcselekszitek, azt mondja az Úr, és mivelhogy szüntelen szóltam, és szóltam ti néktek, de nem hallottátok, és kiáltottam néktek, de nem feleltetek:14 Azért úgy cselekszem e házzal, a mely az én nevemrõl neveztetik, a melyben ti bizakodtok, és e hellyel, a melyet néktek és a ti atyáitoknak adtam, a mint Silóval cselekedtem.15 És elvetlek titeket színem elõl, a mint elvetettem mind a ti atyátokfiait, Efraimnak minden magvát.16 És te ne imádkozzál e népért, se jajszót, se könyörgést ne emelj érettök, és nálam közben ne járj; mert én meg nem hallgatlak téged!17 Nem látod-é te: mit cselekesznek õk Júda városaiban és Jeruzsálem utczáin?18 A fiak fát szedegetnek, az atyák gyujtják a tüzet, az asszonyok pedig dagasztanak, hogy az ég királynõjének béleseket készítsenek, és az idegen isteneknek italáldozatokkal áldoznak, hogy engem felingereljenek.19 Avagy engem ingerelnek-é õk, azt mondja az Úr, és nem magokat-é, hogy gyalázat [borítsa] arczukat?20 Azért ezt mondja az Úr Isten: Ímé az én haragom és búsulásom kiömlik e helyre, az emberekre és a barmokra, a mezõnek fáira és a földnek gyümölcseire, és égni fog, és el nem aluszik.21 Ezt mondja a Seregek Ura, Izráel Istene: Égõáldozataitokat rakjátok a ti véres áldozataitokhoz, és egyetek húst!22 Mert nem szóltam a ti atyáitokkal, és nem rendelkeztem velök, a mikor kihoztam õket Égyiptom földérõl, az égõáldozat és véres áldozat felõl;23 Hanem ezekkel a szavakkal utasítottam õket, mondván: Hallgassatok az én szómra, és én Istenetekké leszek, ti pedig az én népemmé lesztek, és mind [csak] azon az úton járjatok, a melyre utasítottalak titeket, hogy jól legyen dolgotok!24 De nem hallgattak, és fülöket sem hajtották [felém, ]hanem az õ gonosz szívök fásultságában a magok tanácsa szerint jártak, és háttal valának [felém,] és nem arczczal.25 Attól a naptól fogva, a melyen kijöttek a ti atyáitok Égyiptom földébõl e mai napig küldtem hozzátok minden én szolgámat, a prófétákat napról-napra, szüntelen küldöttem;26 De nem hallgattak reám, és fülöket sem hajtották [felém;] hanem megkeményítették nyakukat, [és] gonoszabbul cselekedtek, mint az õ atyáik!27 Ha elmondod nékik mind e szavakat, és nem hallgatnak reád, ha kiáltasz nékik, és nem felelnek néked:28 Akkor ezt mondd nékik: Az a nép ez, a mely nem hallgat az Úrnak, az õ Istenének szavára, sem fenyítését fel nem veszi; elveszett a hûség; kiszaggattatott az õ szájokból.29 Nyírd le hajadat és vesd el, és kezdj a hegyeken gyászéneket, mert útálja az Úr és elhagyja a nemzetséget, a melyre haragszik.30 Mert gonoszt mûveltek elõttem Júdának fiai, azt mondja az Úr; útálatosságaikat bevitték abba a házba, a mely az én nevemrõl neveztetik, hogy megfertõztessék azt.31 És felépítették a Tófet magaslatait, a mely a Ben-Hinnom völgyében van, hogy megégessék fiaikat és leányaikat tûzben, a mit nem parancsoltam, és a mi gondolatomban sem volt.32 Azért ímé eljõnek a napok, azt mondja az Úr, a mikor nem beszélnek többé a Tófetrõl, sem a Ben-Hinnom völgyérõl, hanem az öldöklés völgyérõl; [és] temetkezni fognak Tófetben, és hely sem lesz elég.33 És e nép holtteste az ég madarainak és a mezei barmoknak lesz eledelökké, és nem lesz, a ki elriassza [azokat!]34 És megszüntetem Júda városaiban és Jeruzsálem utczáin az örömnek szavát és a vígasságnak szavát, a võlegény szavát és a menyasszony szavát; mert elpusztul a föld!
1The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord:2“Stand in the gate of the Lord’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all you men of Judah who enter these gates to worship the Lord. (Jer 26,2)3Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you dwell in this place. (Jer 18,11; Jer 26,13)4Do not trust in these deceptive words: ‘This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.’ (Jer 7,8)5“For if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly execute justice one with another, (5Móz 24,14; Jer 22,3)6if you do not oppress the sojourner, the fatherless, or the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own harm, (5Móz 6,14; Jer 7,5; Jer 13,10; Jer 25,6)7then I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your fathers forever. (5Móz 4,40; Jer 3,18)8“Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail.9Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, make offerings to Baal, and go after other gods that you have not known, (Jer 1,16; Jer 5,2; Jer 7,6; Hós 4,1)10and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’—only to go on doing all these abominations? (Jer 32,34; Jer 34,15)11Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I myself have seen it, declares the Lord. And they pour out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger. (Jób 35,6; Jer 51,51)20Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, my anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, upon man and beast, upon the trees of the field and the fruit of the ground; it will burn and not be quenched.” (2Krón 34,25; Jer 17,27; Jer 42,18; Jer 44,6; JSir 4,11)21Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat the flesh. (Jer 6,20)22For in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, I did not speak to your fathers or command them concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices. (Hós 6,6)23But this command I gave them: ‘Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. (2Krón 36,15)26Yet they did not listen to me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than their fathers. (2Krón 30,8; Jer 7,24; Jer 16,12)27“So you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you. You shall call to them, but they will not answer you. (Jer 1,17; Jer 7,13)28And you shall say to them, ‘This is the nation that did not obey the voice of the Lord their God, and did not accept discipline; truth has perished; it is cut off from their lips. (Jer 9,3)29“Cut off your hair and cast it away; raise a lamentation on the bare heights, for the Lord has rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.’ (Jób 1,20; Jer 3,2)
The Valley of Slaughter
30“For the sons of Judah have done evil in my sight, declares the Lord. They have set their detestable things in the house that is called by my name, to defile it. (2Kir 21,4; 2Kir 21,7; Jer 7,10; Jer 19,5; Jer 32,34; Ez 5,11; Ez 7,20)31And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I did not command, nor did it come into my mind. (5Móz 17,3; Józs 18,16; 2Kir 23,10; Zsolt 106,38; Jer 7,21; Jer 31,40)32Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when it will no more be called Topheth, or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter; for they will bury in Topheth, because there is no room elsewhere. (Jer 7,31; Jer 19,6; Jer 19,11; Ez 6,5)33And the dead bodies of this people will be food for the birds of the air, and for the beasts of the earth, and none will frighten them away. (5Móz 28,26; Zsolt 79,2; Ézs 17,2; Jer 12,9; Jer 16,4; Jer 19,7; Jer 34,20)34And I will silence in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, for the land shall become a waste.
