Sie gehörten zu den Sippen Delaja, Tobija und Nekoda, konnten jedoch ihre israelitische Abstammung nicht nachweisen.61-62Einige der Priester durften keinen Tempeldienst ausüben, denn ihre Abstammungsregister waren nicht aufzufinden. Sie kamen aus den Sippen von Habaja, Hakkoz und Barsillai. Der Stammvater der Sippe Barsillai hatte eine Tochter des Gileaditers Barsillai geheiratet und den Namen seines Schwiegervaters angenommen.63Der persische Statthalter verbot den Priestern aus diesen drei Sippen, von den geweihten Opfergaben zu essen, bis wieder ein Hoherpriester im Amt wäre, der das heilige Los werfen durfte, um über ihren Fall zu entscheiden.64Insgesamt kehrten 42.360 Israeliten in ihre Heimat zurück,65dazu kamen 7337 Sklaven und Sklavinnen und 200 Sänger und Sängerinnen.66Die Israeliten brachten 736 Pferde, 245 Maultiere,67435 Kamele und 6720 Esel mit.68Als sie beim Tempelgelände in Jerusalem ankamen, stifteten einige Sippenoberhäupter freiwillige Gaben, damit das Haus des HERRN wieder an seinem früheren Platz errichtet werden konnte.69Jeder gab, so viel er konnte. Insgesamt kamen 61.000 Goldmünzen und 3600 Kilogramm Silber zusammen; außerdem wurden 100 Priestergewänder gestiftet.70Die Priester, die Leviten, die Sänger, Torwächter und Tempeldiener ließen sich wie die übrigen Israeliten in ihren früheren Heimatorten nieder.
