1Doch auch nach dieser Begegnung blieb David misstrauisch und dachte: »Irgendwann wird Saul mich doch noch umbringen. Es wird das Beste sein, wenn ich schnell von hier verschwinde und zu den Philistern gehe. Dann habe ich endlich Ruhe vor Saul. Denn solange ich in Israel bin, wird er nicht aufhören, nach mir zu suchen.«2So zog David mit seinen 600 Männern über die Grenze zu König Achisch, dem Sohn von Maoch; er herrschte über die Philisterstadt Gat.3Ihre Familien nahmen sie mit. Auch die beiden Frauen von David waren dabei: Ahinoam aus Jesreel und Abigajil aus Karmel, Nabals Witwe. Ihnen allen erlaubte König Achisch, in Gat zu wohnen.4Als Saul davon erfuhr, hörte er auf, nach David zu suchen.5Nach einiger Zeit bat David König Achisch: »Wenn du es gut mit mir meinst, dann lass mich in eine Stadt auf dem Land ziehen! Warum soll ich bei dir, mein König, in der Hauptstadt bleiben?«6Achisch war einverstanden und überließ David gleich am selben Tag die Stadt Ziklag. Daher gehört Ziklag noch heute den Königen von Juda.7David wohnte ein Jahr und vier Monate bei den Philistern.8Von Ziklag aus unternahmen David und seine Männer Raubzüge. Mal fielen sie bei den Geschuritern ein, dann wieder bei den Girsitern oder bei den Amalekitern. Alle diese Stämme wohnten südlich von Juda bis hinunter nach Schur und an die Grenze zu Ägypten.9Bei diesen Überfällen ließen sie weder Männer noch Frauen am Leben. Doch die Schafe, Rinder, Esel, Kamele und auch die Kleider nahmen sie als Beute mit. Wenn David zurückkam,10fragte Achisch ihn jedes Mal: »Wo bist du heute eingefallen?« »In das südliche Gebiet Judas«, log David dann, oder: »Bei der jüdischen Sippe der Jerachmeeliter«, oder: »Ins südliche Gebiet der Keniter«.11Um nicht als Lügner entlarvt zu werden, brachte David bei seinen Raubzügen alle Menschen um, anstatt sie nach Gat zu verschleppen. Denn er wollte verhindern, dass sie ihn verrieten und dem König sein Doppelspiel aufdeckten. So handelte David während seiner ganzen Zeit bei den Philistern.12Achisch glaubte ihm alles. Er dachte: »Jetzt muss David für immer in meinem Dienst bleiben, denn er hat sich bei seinen Landsleuten verhasst gemacht!«

1And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.2And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.3And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal' wife.4And it was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.5And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?6Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: wherefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.7And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.8And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.9And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Achish.10And Achish said, Whither have ye made a road to day?
