van Biblica1Mijn zoon, luister naar wat ik zeg en schat mijn aanwijzingen op hun waarde.2Dan krijg je een oor voor de echte wijsheid en zal je verstand worden gescherpt.3Als je inzicht probeert te krijgen en er wijsheid in je woorden doorklinkt,4als je dat beschouwt als een zeer groot goed en moeite doet om het te verkrijgen,5zul je merken wat eerbiedig ontzag voor de HERE betekent. Dan zul je God werkelijk leren kennen.6Want de HERE is de bron van alle wijsheid. Uit alles wat Hij zegt, spreekt wijsheid en verstand.7Hij geeft oprechte mensen houvast en is een beschermer van hen die zuiver leven.8Die mensen blijven op de goede weg, de weg die Hij voor hen effent.9Zo leer je begrijpen wat rechtvaardigheid is, wat eerlijkheid is en welke levensweg de juiste is.10Wanneer je je die wijsheid eigen hebt gemaakt en geniet van je kennis,11dan denk je na voordat je iets zegt, en die bedachtzaamheid zal je beschermen.12Beschermen tegen de man die slechte dingen zegt.13Beschermen tegen hen die niet in oprechtheid geloven.14Beschermen ook tegen de boosdoeners die lachen om allerlei wandaden,15die de goede weg verlieten en kozen voor hun eigen kronkelpad.16Beschermen ook tegen de vrouw die niet de jouwe is, maar met gevlei probeert jou in te palmen.17Die vrouw die haar eigen man verlaat en daardoor zowel haar man als God ontrouw is.18Want wat zij doet, leidt naar de dood.19Wie met haar naar bed gaat, komt niet meer terug en zal de weg naar het leven niet vinden.20Blijf dus de goede weg bewandelen en volg het voorbeeld dat oprechte mensen je geven.21Want de aarde is voor hen die zuiver leven en God zal de oprechten nooit verlaten.22Maar hun die zonder God door het leven gaan en zich niet aan Hem of aan hun naaste storen, staat uitroeiing te wachten. Zij worden vernietigd.

(Ps 25:14; Joh 7:17; Joh 14:21)6For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; (Job 32:8)7he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, (Ps 3:3; Ps 84:11; Spr 30:5)8guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. (1 Sam 2:9; Ps 30:4; Ps 66:9; Ps 97:10)9Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; (Spr 1:3; Spr 2:5)10for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;11discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you, (Spr 1:4; Spr 6:22)12delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech,13who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, (Ps 82:5; Joh 3:19)14who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil, (Ps 50:18; Spr 10:23; Jer 11:15; Rom 1:32)15men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways. (Ps 125:5; Spr 3:32; Spr 14:2; Spr 21:8)16So you will be delivered from the forbidden[1] woman, from the adulteress[2] with her smooth words, (Ps 5:9; Spr 6:24; Spr 7:5; Spr 23:27)17who forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God; (Ps 55:13; Jer 3:4; Mal 2:14)18for her house sinks down to death, and her paths to the departed;[3] (Spr 7:27)19none who go to her come back, nor do they regain the paths of life.20So you will walk in the way of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous.21For the upright will inhabit the land, and those with integrity will remain in it, (Spr 10:30)22but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the treacherous will be rooted out of it.
