1 Een psalm van David voor de koordirigent. 2 HERE, de koning verheugt zich over uw macht, met vreugde spreekt hij over het heil dat U geeft. 3 U vervulde zijn grootste wens. Wat hij U vroeg, hebt U hem niet geweigerd. 4 U komt hem tegemoet met overvloed en geeft hem een prachtige gouden kroon. 5 Hij vroeg U te mogen leven, dat stond U hem toe tot in hoge ouderdom. 6 Dankzij U is hij beroemd en geëerd. U gaf hem aanzien en majesteit. 7 U zegent hem rijk en geeft hem een hart vol blijdschap. 8 Allemaal omdat de koning op de HERE vertrouwt, door de goedheid en de liefde van God, de Allerhoogste, faalt hij niet. 9 HERE, U weet uw vijanden te vinden. Wie U haten, zullen niet aan U ontkomen. 10 Wanneer U komt, HERE, zullen zij door uw toorn verbranden, U zult hen vernietigen. In het vuur zullen zij omkomen. 11 Zelfs hun kinderen zult U wegdoen van deze aarde en hun nageslacht zal niet bestaan. 12 Als zij proberen U kwaad te doen en slechte plannen maken, zal dat hun niet lukken. 13 U laat hen vluchten, U richt uw pijlen op hun gezicht. 14 Toon uw kracht, HERE, dan zullen wij liederen zingen tot uw eer.

1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. O Lord, in your strength the king rejoices, and in your salvation how greatly he exults! (Ps 8:2; Ps 9:14; Ps 28:7) 2 You have given him his heart’s desire and have not withheld the request of his lips. (Ps 20:4) 3 For you meet him with rich blessings; you set a crown of fine gold upon his head. (2 Sam 12:30; 1 Kron 20:2; Ps 19:10; Ps 59:10) 4 He asked life of you; you gave it to him, length of days forever and ever. (2 Sam 7:19; 1 Kon 1:31; Neh 2:3; Ps 61:6; Ps 91:16) 5 His glory is great through your salvation; splendor and majesty you bestow on him. (Ps 8:5; Ps 45:3; Ps 96:6) 6 For you make him most blessed forever;[1] you make him glad with the joy of your presence. (Ps 16:11; Ps 45:7) 7 For the king trusts in the Lord, and through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be moved. (Ps 10:6; Ps 16:8) 8 Your hand will find out all your enemies; your right hand will find out those who hate you. (Jes 10:10) 9 You will make them as a blazing oven when you appear. The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath, and fire will consume them. (Job 20:26; Ps 2:5; Ps 18:8; Ps 50:3; Ps 83:14; Ps 97:3; Jes 26:11; Dan 7:10; Hab 3:5; Mal 4:1) 10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth, and their offspring from among the children of man. (1 Kon 13:34; Job 18:16; Job 18:19; Ps 34:16; Ps 37:28; Ps 109:13; Jes 14:20) 11 Though they plan evil against you, though they devise mischief, they will not succeed. (Ps 2:1; Ps 10:2) 12 For you will put them to flight; you will aim at their faces with your bows. (Ps 7:12; Ps 11:2; Ps 18:40) 13 Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength! We will sing and praise your power.
