1 Een bedevaartslied. Ik kijk omhoog naar de bergen. Waarvandaan kan ik hulp verwachten? 2 De HERE helpt mij. Hij heeft immers de hemel en de aarde gemaakt? 3 Hij zal voorkomen dat u valt, want Hij is uw beschermer en slaapt nooit. 4 Werkelijk, de beschermer van het volk Israël slaapt nooit! 5 De HERE is uw beschermer. Zoals uw schaduw u nooit verlaat, blijft ook Hij altijd bij u. 6 Overdag zal de zon u geen kwaad doen, ʼs nachts de maan niet. Altijd is Hij bij u. 7 De HERE beschermt u tegen elk kwaad, Hij beschermt uw leven. 8 De HERE beschermt u, waar u ook gaat. Niet alleen vandaag, maar altijd, tot in eeuwigheid.

1 A Song of Ascents. I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? (Ps 48:1; Ps 87:1; Ps 120:1; Ps 123:1; Ps 133:3; Jer 3:23) 2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. (Ps 20:2; Ps 115:15; Ps 124:8) 3 He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. (1 Sam 2:9; Ps 41:2; Ps 66:9; Ps 97:10; Ps 127:1; Spr 3:23; Spr 3:26; Jes 27:3) 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. (Ps 16:8; Ps 91:1) 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. (2 Kon 4:19; Jes 49:10; Jona 4:8; Op 7:16) 7 The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. (Ps 121:3) 8 The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. (Num 27:17; Deut 28:6; Deut 31:2; 1 Sam 29:6; 1 Kon 3:7; Hand 1:21)
