1Wat recht en oordeel betreft, hoe durft u als de een tegen de ander iets heeft, recht te zoeken bij de rechtbank?2Waarom niet bij uw medegelovigen? Of weet u niet dat de gelovigen straks over de wereld zullen rechtspreken? Kunt u dan zulke kleinigheden nog niet eens onder elkaar oplossen?3Weet u niet dat wij straks over engelen zullen oordelen? Dan kunnen we dat nu toch zéker over alledaagse dingen!4Als er geschilpunten zijn die het dagelijks leven betreffen, kan zelfs de minste uit de gemeente daarover rechtspreken.5Is er geen wijs man onder u, die de twee partijen tot elkaar kan brengen?6Blijkbaar niet, want de ene gelovige brengt de andere voor de rechtbank, voor ongelovige rechters nog wel!7Het is toch onwaardig dat u, als gelovigen, rechtsgeschillen hebt? Waarom bent u niet bereid onrecht te verdragen? Waarom laat u zich niet liever benadelen?8Maar nee, u doet zélf onrecht, u berokkent schade en nog wel aan medechristenen!9Weet u niet dat onrechtvaardige mensen geen deel zullen hebben aan het Koninkrijk van God? Verlaat Gods weg niet! Mensen die vrije seks voorstaan, afgoden dienen, overspel plegen of zich met homoseksuele en pedofiele praktijken inlaten,10blijven buiten het Koninkrijk van God. Dat geldt ook voor dieven, gierigaards, dronkaards, roddelaars en oplichters.11Sommigen van u zijn vroeger ook zo geweest. U bent nu schoongewassen en voor God afgezonderd. U bent onschuldig verklaard in de naam van de Here Jezus Christus en door de Geest van onze God.12Ik mag alles, zegt u. Maar niet alles is zinvol. Hoewel ik alles mag, mag niets mij overheersen.13Het voedsel is voor het lichaam en het lichaam is voor het voedsel. God zal ze allebei overbodig maken. Ons lichaam is niet bestemd voor de ontucht, maar voor de Here, en de Here zorgt voor het lichaam!14Zoals God de Here Jezus Christus weer levend heeft gemaakt, heeft Hij ook de kracht om óns weer levend te maken.15Weet u niet dat uw lichaam een lichaamsdeel van Christus is? Kan ik dan toestaan dat een lichaamsdeel van Christus gemeenschap heeft met een prostituee? Absoluut niet!16Of weet u niet dat u, door gemeenschap te hebben met een prostituee, één met haar wordt? Want God heeft gezegd: ‘Man en vrouw worden werkelijk één.’17Maar als u gemeenschap met de Here hebt, bent u één van geest met Hem.18Houd u ver van elke vorm van hoererij. Geen andere zonde heeft zó wezenlijk met uw lichaam te maken. Als u met een andere dan uw eigen vrouw gemeenschap hebt, doet u kwaad aan uw eigen lichaam.19Of weet u niet dat uw lichaam een tempel is van de Heilige Geest? Van de Geest die God u heeft gegeven en die nu in u woont? U bent niet van uzelf!20God heeft u tegen de allerhoogste prijs gekocht! Gebruik daarom ieder deel van uw lichaam om God eer te geven.
1When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? (Mat 18:17)2Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? (Dan 7:22; Mat 19:28; Op 20:4)3Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life!4So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? (1 Cor 5:12)5I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, (1 Cor 4:14; 1 Cor 15:34)6but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers?7To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? (Mat 5:39)8But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers![1] (1 Tess 4:6)9Or do you not know that the unrighteous[2] will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,[3] (1 Cor 15:50; Gal 5:21; Ef 5:5; 1 Tim 1:9; Heb 12:14; Heb 13:4; Op 21:8; Op 22:15)10nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.11And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. Flee Sexual Immorality
12“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. (1 Cor 10:23)13“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. (Mat 15:17; 1 Cor 6:15; 1 Cor 6:19; Ef 5:23; Col 2:22)14And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. (Mat 22:29; Joh 6:39; Hand 2:24; 1 Cor 15:22; Ef 1:19)15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! (Rom 12:5; 1 Cor 6:13; 1 Cor 12:27; Ef 5:30)16Or do you not know that he who is joined[4] to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” (Gen 2:24; Mat 19:5; Mar 10:8; Ef 5:31)17But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. (Joh 17:21; Ef 4:4)18Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin[5] a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. (Spr 5:11; 2 Cor 12:21; Ef 5:3)19Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, (Joh 2:21; Rom 14:7; 1 Cor 3:16)20for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (Hand 20:28; 1 Cor 7:23; Fil 1:20; Heb 9:12; Heb 9:14; 2 Petr 2:1)
