Weisung zum rechten Verhalten den staatlichen Behörden gegenüber
1Jeder ordne sich den Trägern der staatlichen Gewalt unter. Denn es gibt keine staatliche Gewalt außer von Gott; die jetzt bestehen, sind von Gott eingesetzt. (Tit 3,1; 1Petr 2,13)2Wer sich daher der staatlichen Gewalt widersetzt, stellt sich gegen die Ordnung Gottes, und wer sich ihm entgegenstellt, wird dem Gericht verfallen.3Vor den Trägern der Macht hat sich nicht die gute, sondern die böse Tat zu fürchten; willst du also ohne Furcht vor der staatlichen Gewalt leben, dann tue das Gute, sodass du ihre Anerkennung findest!4Denn sie steht im Dienst Gottes für dich zum Guten. Wenn du aber das Böse tust, fürchte dich! Denn nicht ohne Grund trägt sie das Schwert. Sie steht nämlich im Dienst Gottes und vollstreckt das Urteil an dem, der das Böse tut.5Deshalb ist es notwendig, sich unterzuordnen, nicht allein um der Strafe, sondern auch um des Gewissens willen. (1Petr 2,19)6Das ist auch der Grund, weshalb ihr Steuern zahlt; denn in Gottes Auftrag handeln jene, die Steuern einzuziehen haben.7Gebt allen, was ihr ihnen schuldig seid, Steuer, wem ihr Steuer schuldet, Zoll, wem ihr Zoll schuldet, Furcht, wem ihr Furcht schuldet, Ehre, wem ihr Ehre schuldet! (Mt 22,21)
Die Liebe als Erfüllung des Gesetzes
8Niemandem bleibt etwas schuldig, außer der gegenseitigen Liebe! Wer den andern liebt, hat das Gesetz erfüllt. (Röm 8,4)9Denn die Gebote: Du sollst nicht die Ehe brechen, du sollst nicht töten, du sollst nicht stehlen, du sollst nicht begehren! und alle anderen Gebote sind in dem einen Satz zusammengefasst: Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst. (2Mo 20,13; 3Mo 19,18; 5Mo 5,17; Mt 22,39; Gal 5,14)10Die Liebe tut dem Nächsten nichts Böses. Also ist die Liebe die Erfüllung des Gesetzes.
Das Gebot der Stunde
11Und das tut im Wissen um die gegenwärtige Zeit: Die Stunde ist gekommen, aufzustehen vom Schlaf. Denn jetzt ist das Heil uns näher als zu der Zeit, da wir gläubig wurden. (Eph 5,14; 1Thess 5,5)12Die Nacht ist vorgerückt, der Tag ist nahe. Darum lasst uns ablegen die Werke der Finsternis und anlegen die Waffen des Lichts! (1Thess 5,8)13Lasst uns ehrenhaft leben wie am Tag, ohne maßloses Essen und Trinken, ohne Unzucht und Ausschweifung, ohne Streit und Eifersucht! (Lk 21,34; Gal 5,19; 1Petr 4,3)14Vielmehr zieht den Herrn Jesus Christus an und sorgt nicht so für euren Leib, dass die Begierden erwachen. (Gal 3,27; Eph 4,24)
1All of you must obey those who rule over you. There are no authorities except the ones God has chosen. Those who now rule have been chosen by God.2So whoever opposes the authorities opposes leaders whom God has appointed. Those who do that will be judged.3If you do what is right, you won’t need to be afraid of your rulers. But watch out if you do what is wrong! You don’t want to be afraid of those in authority, do you? Then do what is right, and you will be praised.4The one in authority serves God for your good. But if you do wrong, watch out! Rulers don’t carry a sword for no reason at all. They serve God. And God is carrying out his anger through them. The ruler punishes anyone who does wrong.5You must obey the authorities. Then you will not be punished. You must also obey them because you know it is right.6That’s also why you pay taxes. The authorities serve God. Ruling takes up all their time.7Give to everyone what you owe them. Do you owe taxes? Then pay them. Do you owe anything else to the government? Then pay it. Do you owe respect? Then give it. Do you owe honour? Then show it.
Love fulfils the law
8Pay everything you owe. But you can never pay back all the love you owe one another. Whoever loves other people has done everything the law requires.9Here are some commandments to think about. ‘Do not commit adultery.’ ‘Do not commit murder.’ ‘Do not steal.’ ‘Do not want what belongs to others.’ These and all other commands are included in one command. Here’s what it is. ‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself.’ (2Mo 20,13; 2Mo 20,17; 3Mo 19,18; 5Mo 5,17; 5Mo 5,21)10Love does not harm its neighbour. So love does everything the law requires.
The day is near
11When you do these things, keep in mind the times we are living in. The hour has already come for you to wake up from your sleep. The full effects of our salvation are closer now than when we first believed in Christ.12The dark night of evil is nearly over. The day of Christ’s return is almost here. So let us get rid of the works of darkness that harm us. Let us do the works of light that protect us.13Let us act as we should, like people living in the daytime. Have nothing to do with wild parties, and don’t get drunk. Don’t take part in sexual sins or evil conduct. Don’t fight with each other or be jealous of anyone.14Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ as if he were your clothing. Don’t think about how to satisfy sinful desires.
