Das versiegelte Buch und das Lamm

1 Und ich sah auf der rechten Hand dessen, der auf dem Thron saß, eine Buchrolle; sie war innen und auf der Rückseite beschrieben und mit sieben Siegeln versiegelt. (Jes 6,1; Jes 29,11; Hes 2,9) 2 Und ich sah: Ein gewaltiger Engel rief mit lauter Stimme: Wer ist würdig, die Buchrolle zu öffnen und ihre Siegel zu lösen? 3 Aber niemand im Himmel, auf der Erde und unter der Erde konnte das Buch öffnen und hineinsehen. (2Mo 20,4; 5Mo 5,8) 4 Da weinte ich sehr, weil niemand für würdig befunden wurde, das Buch zu öffnen und hineinzusehen. 5 Da sagte einer von den Ältesten zu mir: Weine nicht! Siehe, gesiegt hat der Löwe aus dem Stamm Juda, der Spross aus der Wurzel Davids; er kann das Buch und seine sieben Siegel öffnen. (1Mo 49,9; Jes 11,10) 6 Und ich sah: Zwischen dem Thron und den vier Lebewesen und mitten unter den Ältesten stand ein Lamm; es sah aus wie geschlachtet und hatte sieben Hörner und sieben Augen; die Augen sind die sieben Geister Gottes, die über die ganze Erde ausgesandt sind. (Jes 53,7; Sach 4,10) 7 Das Lamm trat heran und empfing das Buch aus der rechten Hand dessen, der auf dem Thron saß. (Jes 6,1) 8 Als es das Buch empfangen hatte, fielen die vier Lebewesen und die vierundzwanzig Ältesten vor dem Lamm nieder; alle trugen Harfen und goldene Schalen voll von Räucherwerk; das sind die Gebete der Heiligen. (Ps 141,2) 9 Und sie sangen ein neues Lied und sprachen: Würdig bist du, / das Buch zu nehmen und seine Siegel zu öffnen; denn du wurdest geschlachtet / und hast mit deinem Blut / Menschen für Gott erworben / aus allen Stämmen und Sprachen, / aus allen Nationen und Völkern (Ps 33,3) 10 und du hast sie für unsern Gott / zu einem Königreich und zu Priestern gemacht; / und sie werden auf der Erde herrschen. (2Mo 19,6; Jes 61,6; Offb 1,6) 11 Ich sah und ich hörte die Stimme von vielen Engeln rings um den Thron und um die Lebewesen und die Ältesten; die Zahl der Engel war zehntausend mal zehntausend und tausend mal tausend. (Dan 7,10) 12 Sie riefen mit lauter Stimme: Würdig ist das Lamm, das geschlachtet ist, / Macht zu empfangen, Reichtum und Weisheit, / Kraft und Ehre, Lob und Herrlichkeit. (Jes 53,7) 13 Und alle Geschöpfe im Himmel und auf der Erde, unter der Erde und auf dem Meer, alles, was darin ist, hörte ich sprechen: Ihm, der auf dem Thron sitzt, und dem Lamm / gebühren Lob und Ehre und Herrlichkeit und Kraft in alle Ewigkeit. (Jes 6,1) 14 Und die vier Lebewesen sprachen: Amen. Und die vierundzwanzig Ältesten fielen nieder und beteten an.

The scroll and the Lamb

1 Then I saw a scroll in the right hand of the one sitting on the throne. The scroll had writing on both sides. It was sealed with seven seals. 2 I saw a mighty angel calling out in a loud voice. He said, ‘Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?’ 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll. No one could even look inside it. 4 I cried and cried. That’s because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not cry! The Lion of the tribe of Judah has won the battle. He is the Root of David. He is able to break the seven seals and open the scroll.’ 6 Then I saw a Lamb that looked as if he had been put to death. He stood at the centre of the area around the throne. The Lamb was surrounded by the four living creatures and the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes. The eyes stand for the seven spirits of God, which are sent out into all the earth. 7 The Lamb went and took the scroll. He took it from the right hand of the one sitting on the throne. 8 Then the four living creatures and the 24 elders fell down in front of the Lamb. Each one had a harp. They were holding golden bowls full of incense. They stand for the prayers of God’s people. 9 Here is the new song they sang. ‘You are worthy to take the scroll and break open its seals. You are worthy because you were put to death. With your blood you bought people for God. They come from every tribe, people and nation, no matter what language they speak. 10 You have made them members of a royal family. You have made them priests to serve our God. They will rule on the earth.’ 11 Then I looked and heard the voice of millions and millions of angels. They surrounded the throne. They surrounded the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying, ‘The Lamb, who was put to death, is worthy! He is worthy to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength! He is worthy to receive honour and glory and praise!’ 13 All creatures in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and on the sea were speaking. The whole creation was speaking. I heard all of them say, ‘Praise and honour belong to the one who sits on the throne and to the Lamb! Glory and power belong to God for ever and ever!’ 14 The four living creatures said, ‘Amen’. And the elders fell down and worshipped.
