1Als sie in die Nähe von Jerusalem kamen, nach Betfage und Betanien am Ölberg, schickte er zwei seiner Jünger aus. (Mt 21,1; Lk 19,28; Joh 12,12)2Er sagte zu ihnen: Geht in das Dorf, das vor euch liegt; gleich wenn ihr hineinkommt, werdet ihr ein Fohlen angebunden finden, auf dem noch nie ein Mensch gesessen hat. Bindet es los und bringt es her!3Und wenn jemand zu euch sagt: Was tut ihr da?, dann antwortet: Der Herr braucht es; er lässt es bald wieder zurückbringen.4Da machten sie sich auf den Weg und fanden außen an einer Tür an der Straße ein Fohlen angebunden und sie banden es los.5Einige, die dabeistanden, sagten zu ihnen: Wie kommt ihr dazu, das Fohlen loszubinden?6Sie gaben ihnen zur Antwort, was Jesus gesagt hatte, und man ließ sie gewähren.7Sie brachten das Fohlen zu Jesus, legten ihre Kleider auf das Tier und er setzte sich darauf. (Sach 9,9)8Und viele breiteten ihre Kleider auf den Weg aus, andere aber Büschel, die sie von den Feldern abgerissen hatten.9Die Leute, die vor ihm hergingen und die ihm nachfolgten, riefen: Hosanna! Gesegnet sei er, der kommt im Namen des Herrn! (Ps 118,25; Mt 23,39; Lk 13,35)10Gesegnet sei das Reich unseres Vaters David, das nun kommt. Hosanna in der Höhe!11Und er zog nach Jerusalem hinein, in den Tempel; nachdem er sich alles angesehen hatte, ging er spät am Abend mit den Zwölf nach Betanien hinaus.
Die Verfluchung des Feigenbaums
12Als sie am nächsten Tag Betanien verließen, hatte er Hunger. (Mt 21,18)13Da sah er von Weitem einen Feigenbaum mit Blättern und ging hin, um nach Früchten zu suchen. Aber er fand nichts als Blätter; denn es war nicht die Zeit der Feigenernte. (Lk 13,6)14Da sagte er zu ihm: In Ewigkeit soll niemand mehr eine Frucht von dir essen. Und seine Jünger hörten es.
Die Reinigung des Tempels
15Dann kamen sie nach Jerusalem. Jesus ging in den Tempel und begann, die Händler und Käufer aus dem Tempel hinauszutreiben; er stieß die Tische der Geldwechsler und die Stände der Taubenhändler um (Sach 14,21; Mt 21,12; Lk 19,45; Joh 2,13)16und ließ nicht zu, dass jemand irgendetwas durch den Tempelbezirk trug.17Er belehrte sie und sagte: Heißt es nicht in der Schrift: Mein Haus soll ein Haus des Gebetes für alle Völker genannt werden? Ihr aber habt daraus eine Räuberhöhle gemacht. (Jes 56,7; Jer 7,11)18Die Hohepriester und die Schriftgelehrten hörten davon und suchten nach einer Möglichkeit, ihn umzubringen. Denn sie fürchteten ihn, weil das Volk außer sich war vor Staunen über seine Lehre. (Mk 12,12; Mk 14,1)19Als es Abend wurde, verließ Jesus mit seinen Jüngern die Stadt.
Der verdorrte Feigenbaum und der Glaube
20Als sie am nächsten Morgen an dem Feigenbaum vorbeikamen, sahen sie, dass er bis zu den Wurzeln verdorrt war. (Mt 21,20)21Da erinnerte sich Petrus und sagte zu Jesus: Rabbi, sieh doch, der Feigenbaum, den du verflucht hast, ist verdorrt.22Jesus sagte zu ihnen: Habt Glauben an Gott!23Amen, ich sage euch: Wenn jemand zu diesem Berg sagt: Heb dich empor und stürz dich ins Meer! und wenn er in seinem Herzen nicht zweifelt, sondern glaubt, dass geschieht, was er sagt, dann wird es geschehen. (Mt 17,20; Lk 17,6)24Darum sage ich euch: Alles, worum ihr betet und bittet - glaubt nur, dass ihr es schon erhalten habt, dann wird es euch zuteil. (Mt 7,7)25-26Und wenn ihr beten wollt und ihr habt einem anderen etwas vorzuwerfen, dann vergebt ihm, damit auch euer Vater im Himmel euch eure Verfehlungen vergibt.[1] (Mt 6,14; Lk 6,37)
Die Frage nach der Vollmacht Jesu
27Sie kamen wieder nach Jerusalem. Als er im Tempel umherging, kamen die Hohepriester, die Schriftgelehrten und die Ältesten zu ihm (Mt 21,23; Lk 20,1)28und fragten ihn: In welcher Vollmacht tust du das? Wer hat dir diese Vollmacht gegeben, das zu tun?29Jesus sagte zu ihnen: Ich will euch eine Frage stellen. Antwortet mir, dann werde ich euch sagen, in welcher Vollmacht ich das tue.30Stammte die Taufe des Johannes vom Himmel oder von den Menschen? Antwortet mir!31Da überlegten sie und sagten zueinander: Wenn wir antworten: Vom Himmel, so wird er sagen: Warum habt ihr ihm dann nicht geglaubt?32Sollen wir also antworten: Von den Menschen? Sie fürchteten sich aber vor den Leuten; denn alle hielten Johannes wirklich für einen Propheten.33Darum antworteten sie Jesus: Wir wissen es nicht. Jesus erwiderte: Dann sage auch ich euch nicht, in welcher Vollmacht ich das tue.
1As they all approached Jerusalem, they came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent out two of his disciples.2He said to them, ‘Go to the village ahead of you. Just as you enter it, you will find a donkey’s colt tied there. No one has ever ridden it. Untie it and bring it here.3Someone may ask you, “Why are you doing this?” If so, say, “The Lord needs it. But he will send it back here soon.” ’4So they left. They found a colt out in the street. It was tied at a doorway. They untied it.5Some people standing there asked, ‘What are you doing? Why are you untying that colt?’6They answered as Jesus had told them to. So the people let them go.7They brought the colt to Jesus. They threw their coats over it. Then he sat on it.8Many people spread their coats on the road. Others spread branches they had cut in the fields.9Those in front and those behind shouted, ‘Hosanna!’ ‘Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!’ (Ps 118,25; Ps 118,26)10‘Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!’ ‘Hosanna in the highest heaven!’11Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courtyard. He looked around at everything. But it was already late. So he went out to Bethany with the 12 disciples.
Jesus curses a fig tree and clears out the temple courtyard
12The next day as Jesus and his disciples were leaving Bethany, they were hungry.13Not too far away, he saw a fig tree. It was covered with leaves. He went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves. It was not the season for figs.14Then Jesus said to the tree, ‘May no one ever eat fruit from you again!’ And his disciples heard him say it.15When Jesus reached Jerusalem, he entered the temple courtyard. He began to drive out those who were buying and selling there. He turned over the tables of the people who were exchanging money. He also turned over the benches of those who were selling doves.16He would not allow anyone to carry items for sale through the temple courtyard.17Then he taught them. He told them, ‘It is written that the Lord said, “My house will be called a house where people from all nations can pray.” But you have made it a “den for robbers.” ’ (Jes 56,7; Jer 7,11)18The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard about this. They began looking for a way to kill Jesus. They were afraid of him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.19When evening came, Jesus and his disciples left the city.
The dried-up fig tree
20In the morning as Jesus and his disciples walked along, they saw the fig tree. It was dried up all the way down to the roots.21Peter remembered. He said to Jesus, ‘Rabbi, look! The fig tree you put a curse on has dried up!’22‘Have faith in God,’ Jesus said.23‘What I’m about to tell you is true. Suppose someone says to this mountain, “Go and throw yourself into the sea.” They must not doubt in their heart. They must believe that what they say will happen. Then it will be done for them.24So I tell you, when you pray for something, believe that you have already received it. Then it will be yours.25-26And when you stand praying, forgive anyone you have anything against. Then your Father in heaven will forgive your sins.’
The authority of Jesus is questioned
27Jesus and his disciples arrived again in Jerusalem. He was walking in the temple courtyard. Then the chief priests came to him. The teachers of the law and the elders came too.28‘By what authority are you doing these things?’ they asked. ‘Who gave you authority to do this?’29Jesus replied, ‘I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.30Was John’s baptism from heaven? Or did it come from human authority? Tell me!’31They talked to each other about it. They said, ‘If we say, “From heaven”, he will ask, “Then why didn’t you believe him?”32But what if we say, “From human authority”?’ They were afraid of the people. Everyone believed that John really was a prophet.33So they answered Jesus, ‘We don’t know.’ Jesus said, ‘Then I won’t tell you by what authority I am doing these things either.’
