Weheruf gegen die störrischen Söhne

1 Wehe den störrischen Söhnen - Spruch des HERRN -, / die einen Plan ausführen, der nicht von mir ist, und ein Trankopfer ausgießen, / aber ohne meinen Geist, / um Sünde auf Sünde zu häufen! (2Kön 18,21; Jes 31,1; Jer 2,18) 2 Die sich auf den Weg hinunter nach Ägypten machen - / meinen Mund hatten sie nicht befragt -, um sich zu bergen im Schutz des Pharao und Zuflucht zu suchen / im Schatten Ägyptens. 3 Doch wird euch der Schutz des Pharao zur Schande / und die Zuflucht im Schatten Ägyptens zur Schmach. 4 Wenn auch seine Fürsten in Zoan waren / und seine Boten Hanes erreichten, 5 so wurde doch jeder zuschanden an dem Volk, / das ihnen nicht nützt, das nicht zur Hilfe und nicht zum Nutzen dient, / sondern nur zur Schande und gar zum Hohn. 6 Ausspruch über die Tiere des Negeb: Durch ein Land der Not und der Bedrängnis - / Löwin und Löwe kommen daher, / Giftschlange und fliegender Seraf - tragen sie auf dem Rücken der Esel / ihren Reichtum und auf dem Höcker der Kamele / ihre Schätze zu einem Volk, das nichts nützt. 7 Ägypten ist nichtig und nutzlos ist, was sie helfen. / Darum nenne ich das: Rahab sind sie! Untätigkeit!

Verschriftung der Prophetie und Mahnung

8 Nun komm, schreib es auf eine Tafel bei ihnen, / zeichne es in ein Schriftstück auf, / damit es für einen künftigen Tag Zeuge sei auf ewig! 9 Denn es ist ein trotziges Volk, verlogene Söhne, / Söhne, die nicht hören wollten auf die Weisung des HERRN. (Jes 1,4) 10 Die zu den Sehern sagten: Seht nicht! / und zu denen, die schauten: Erschaut für uns nicht, was richtig ist! Sagt uns Schmeichelndes! / Schaut Täuschungen! (Am 2,12; Am 7,12) 11 Weicht ab vom rechten Weg, biegt ab vom Pfad, / lasst uns in Ruhe mit dem Heiligen Israels! 12 Darum - so spricht der Heilige Israels: / Weil ihr dieses Wort verworfen, auf Gewalt und Arglist vertraut / und darauf euch gestützt habt, 13 darum wird für euch diese Schuld / wie ein von oben sich öffnender und sich verbreiternder Riss / in einer hoch aufragenden Mauer sein, / deren Zusammenbruch plötzlich, urplötzlich kommt. 14 Er zerbricht sie wie beim Zerbrechen eines Töpferkruges, / zerschmettert ohne Mitleid, und unter seinen zerschmetterten Stücken findet sich keine Scherbe, / um Feuer vom Herd zu holen / oder Wasser aus der Zisterne zu schöpfen. 15 Denn so spricht der GOTT, der Herr, der Heilige Israels: Durch Umkehr und Ruhe werdet ihr gerettet, / im Stillhalten und Vertrauen liegt eure Kraft. Doch ihr habt nicht gewollt, / 16 sondern gesagt: Nein, auf Pferden wollen wir fliehen. / Darum sollt ihr fliehen. Ihr habt gesagt: Auf schnellem Pferd wollen wir reiten. / Darum werden eure Verfolger schnell sein. 17 Tausende fliehen vor dem Drohen eines Einzigen, / vor dem Drohen von fünfen ihr alle, bis ihr übrig seid, / wie eine Signalstange auf dem Gipfel des Berges / und wie ein Feldzeichen auf dem Hügel. (5Mo 32,30)

Heilswende für das Volk auf dem Zion

18 Darum wartet der HERR darauf, / euch gnädig zu sein, darum erhebt er sich, / um sich eurer zu erbarmen. Denn der HERR ist ein Gott des Rechts; / selig alle, die auf ihn warten. (Ps 2,12) 19 Ja, du Volk auf dem Zion, / das in Jerusalem wohnt, / ganz sicher wirst du nicht mehr weinen. Ganz sicher wird er dir gnädig sein auf die Stimme deines Hilfegeschreis hin; / sobald er es hört, antwortet er dir. 20 Der Herr wird euch Brot der Not und Wasser der Bedrängnis geben / und deine Lehrer werden sich nicht mehr verbergen, sondern deine Augen werden stets deine Lehrer sehen. / 21 Deine Ohren werden ein Wort hinter dir hören: Dies ist der Weg, geht ihn, / auch wenn ihr nach rechts oder links abbiegen wolltet! 22 Dann werdet ihr deine mit Silber überzogenen Schnitzbilder / und deine mit Gold umkleideten Gussbilder verunreinigen. Du wirst sie wie Unrat wegwerfen. / Hinaus!, wirst du dazu sagen. 23 Dann wird er Regen geben deiner Saat, / die du auf den Acker gesät hast, und das Brotkorn, der Ertrag des Ackers, / wird üppig und fett sein. / Deine Herden werden an jenem Tag auf weiten Wiesen weiden. 24 Die Rinder und Esel, die den Acker bearbeiten, / fressen Futter mit Sauerampfer, / das man mit Schaufel und Gabel ausstreut. 25 Auf jedem hohen Berg und auf jedem aufragenden Hügel / werden Bäche, Wasserläufe sein am Tag des großen Mordens, / wenn Türme einstürzen. (Jes 2,14) 26 Dann wird das Licht des weißen Mondes wie das Licht der heißen Sonne und das Licht der heißen Sonne wird siebenfach hell sein wie das Licht von sieben Tagen, an dem Tag, an dem der HERR den Bruch seines Volkes verbindet und die Wunde seines Schlages heilt.

Gerichtstheophanie gegen Assur

27 Siehe, der Name des HERRN kommt aus der Ferne, / brennend sein Zorn, / gewaltig an Wucht. Seine Lippen sind voller Wut, / seine Zunge ist wie fressendes Feuer, (Jes 29,6) 28 sein Atem wie ein reißender Fluss, / der bis an den Hals reicht. Er siebt Nationen im Sieb des Wahns - / er legt einen Zaum, der in die Irre führt, / an die Kinnbacken der Völker. 29 Das Lied wird für euch sein wie nachts, / wenn man sich fürs Fest heiligt, und die Freude des Herzens, / wie wenn man unter Flötenspiel einhergeht, / um auf den Berg des HERRN zu kommen, zum Felsen Israels. 30 Dann lässt der HERR die Pracht seiner Stimme hören / und er lässt sehen, wie sein Arm niederfährt mit grimmigem Zorn und einer Flamme fressenden Feuers - / Gewitter, Unwetter und Hagelschlag. (Jes 29,6; Jes 30,27) 31 Ja, vor der Stimme des HERRN wird Assur erschrecken; / mit dem Stock schlägt er zu. 32 Und es wird geschehen: Jeder Schlag mit der Zuchtrute, / die der HERR auf ihn niederfahren lässt, geschieht mit Pauken und Leiern. / In Kämpfen mit Schwung des Armes kämpft er gegen ihn.^[1] 33 Ja, längst schon ist eine Brandstätte vorbereitet, / auch für den König ist sie errichtet, / man hat sie tief und weit gemacht; ihr Scheiterhaufen hat Feuer und Holz in Fülle, / der Atem des HERRN brennt darin wie ein Schwefelstrom.

The Lord will judge his stubborn people

1 ‘How terrible it will be for these stubborn children of mine!’ announces the LORD. ‘How terrible for those who carry out plans that did not come from me! Their agreement with Egypt did not come from my Spirit. So they pile up one sin on top of another. 2 They go down to Egypt without asking me for advice. They look to Pharaoh to help them. They ask Egypt to keep them safe. 3 But looking to Pharaoh will only bring them shame. Asking Egypt for help will bring them dishonour. 4 Their officials have gone to the city of Zoan. Their messengers have arrived in Hanes. 5 But the people of Judah will be put to shame. That’s because they are trusting in a nation that is useless to them. Egypt will not bring them any help or advantage. Instead, it will bring them shame and dishonour.’ 6 Here is a prophecy the LORD gave me about the animals in the Negev Desert. Judah’s messengers carry their riches on the backs of donkeys. They carry their treasures on the humps of camels. They travel through a land of danger and suffering. It’s a land filled with lions. Poisonous snakes are also there. The messengers travel to a nation that can’t do them any good. 7 They travel to Egypt, whose help is totally useless. That’s why I call it Rahab the Do-Nothing. 8 The LORD said to me, ‘Go now. Write on a tablet for the people of Judah what I am about to say. Also write it on a scroll. In days to come it will be a witness that lasts for ever. 9 That’s because these people of Judah refuse to obey me. They are children who tell lies. They will not listen to what I want to teach them. 10 They say to the seers, “Don’t see any more visions!” They say to the prophets, “Don’t give us any more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things. Prophesy things we want to hear even if they aren’t true. 11 Get out of our way! Get off our path! Keep the Holy One of Israel away from us!” ’ 12 So the Holy One of Israel speaks. He says, ‘You have turned your backs on what I have said. You have depended on telling people lies. You have crushed others. 13 Those sins are like cracks in a high wall. They get bigger and bigger. Suddenly the wall breaks apart. Then it quickly falls down. 14 It breaks into small pieces like a clay pot. It breaks up completely. Not one piece is left big enough for taking coals from a fireplace. Not one piece is left for dipping water out of a well.’ 15 The LORD and King is the Holy One of Israel. He says, ‘You will find peace and rest when you turn away from your sins and depend on me. You will receive the strength you need when you stay calm and trust in me. But you do not want to do what I tell you to. 16 You said, “No. We’ll escape on horses.” So you will have to escape! You said, “We’ll ride off on fast horses.” So those who chase you will use faster horses! 17 When one of them dares you to fight, a thousand of you will run away. When five of them dare you, all of you will run away. So few of you will be left that you will be like a flagpole on top of a mountain. You will be like only one banner on a hill.’ 18 But the LORD wants to have mercy on you. So he will rise up to give you his tender love. The LORD is a God who is always fair. Blessed are all those who wait for him to act! 19 People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you won’t weep anymore. When you cry out to the LORD for help, he will have mercy on you. As soon as he hears you, he’ll answer you. 20 He might treat you like prisoners. You might eat the bread of trouble. You might drink the water of suffering. But he will be your Teacher. He won’t hide himself anymore. You will see him with your own eyes. 21 You will hear your Teacher’s voice behind you. You will hear it whether you turn to the right or the left. It will say, ‘Here is the path I want you to take. So walk on it.’ 22 Then you will get rid of the silver statues of your gods. You won’t have anything to do with the gold statues either. All of them are ‘unclean’. So you will throw them away like dirty rags. You will say to them, ‘Get away from us!’ 23 The LORD will send rain on the seeds you plant in the ground. The crops that grow will be rich and plentiful. At that time your cattle will eat grass in rolling meadows. 24 The oxen and donkeys that work the soil will eat the finest feed and crushed corn. The farmers will use pitchforks and shovels to separate it from the straw. 25 At that time the towers of your enemies will fall down. Their soldiers will die. Streams of water will flow on every high mountain and hill. 26 The moon will shine like the sun. And the sunlight will be seven times brighter than usual. It will be like the light of seven full days. That will happen when the LORD bandages and heals the wounds and bruises he has brought on his people. 27 The LORD will come from far away in all his power and glory. He will show his burning anger. Thick clouds of smoke will be all around him. His mouth will speak angry words. The words from his tongue will be like a destroying fire. 28 His breath will be like a rushing flood that rises up to the neck. He’ll separate out the nations he is going to destroy. He’ll place a bit in their jaws. It will lead them down the road to death. 29 You will sing as you do on the night you celebrate a holy feast. Your hearts will be filled with joy. You will be as joyful as people playing their flutes as they go up to the mountain of the LORD. He is the Rock of Israel. 30 The LORD will cause people to hear his powerful voice. He will make them see his arm coming down to punish them. It will come down with burning anger and destroying fire. It will come down with rain, thunderstorms and hail. 31 The voice of the LORD will tear the Assyrians apart. He will strike them down with his sceptre. 32 He will strike them with his club to punish them. Each time he does, his people will celebrate with the music of harps and tambourines. He will use his powerful arm to strike down the Assyrians in battle. 33 In the Valley of Ben Hinnom, Topheth has been prepared for a long time. It has been made ready for the king of Assyria. Its fire pit has been made deep and wide. It has plenty of wood for the fire. The breath of the LORD will be like a stream of burning sulphur. It will set the wood on fire.
