1Das Wort, das an Jeremia erging über das ganze Volk von Juda im vierten Jahr Jojakims, des Sohnes Joschijas, des Königs von Juda; es war das erste Jahr Nebukadnezzars, des Königs von Babel. (Jer 36,1)2Der Prophet Jeremia redete zum ganzen Volk von Juda und zu allen Bewohnern Jerusalems. Er sagte:3Seit dem dreizehnten Jahr Joschijas, des Sohnes Amons, des Königs von Juda, bis zum heutigen Tag, also dreiundzwanzig Jahre lang, ist an mich das Wort des HERRN ergangen und ich habe zu euch geredet, unermüdlich geredet. Ihr aber habt nicht gehört.4Der HERR aber hat alle seine Knechte, die Propheten, zu euch gesandt, unermüdlich gesandt. Ihr aber habt nicht gehört und euer Ohr nicht geneigt, um zu hören. (Jer 11,7; Jer 26,5; Jer 44,4)5Er hat gesagt: Kehrt doch um, jeder von seinem schlechten Weg und der Bosheit eurer Taten; dann dürft ihr auf dem Ackerboden bleiben, den der HERR euch und euren Vätern gegeben hat seit jeher und für immer.6Lauft nicht anderen Göttern nach, um ihnen zu dienen und euch vor ihnen niederzuwerfen, und erzürnt mich nicht durch das Werk eurer Hände, damit ich euch nicht Schlimmes antun muss!7Aber ihr habt nicht auf mich gehört - Spruch des HERRN -, um mich zu erzürnen durch das Werk eurer Hände, zu eurem eigenen Schaden.8Darum - so spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Weil ihr nicht auf meine Worte gehört habt,9darum sende ich hin und hole alle Stämme des Nordens herbei - Spruch des HERRN -, auch Nebukadnezzar, den König von Babel, meinen Knecht. Ich lasse sie über dieses Land und seine Bewohner kommen und über alle diese Völker ringsum. Ich vollziehe an ihnen den Bann und mache sie zu einem Bild des Entsetzens, zum Gespött und zu ewigen Trümmern.[1]10Ich lasse bei ihnen aufhören den Jubelruf und den Freudenruf, den Ruf des Bräutigams und den Ruf der Braut, das Geräusch der Handmühle und das Licht der Lampe. (Jer 7,34)11Dieses ganze Land wird zum Trümmerfeld und zu einem Bild des Entsetzens und diese Völker werden dem König von Babel siebzig Jahre lang dienen. (Jer 29,10)12Sind aber die siebzig Jahre vorüber, dann suche ich den König von Babel und jenes Volk heim für ihre Schuld - Spruch des HERRN - und auch das Land der Chaldäer, indem ich es für immer zur schaurigen Wüste mache.13Ich lasse über jenes Land all das kommen, was ich ihm angedroht habe, alles, was in diesem Buch aufgezeichnet ist, was Jeremia über alle Völker prophezeit hat.14Denn auch sie werden mächtigen Völkern und großen Königen dienen müssen. So vergelte ich ihnen entsprechend ihren Taten und dem Tun ihrer Hände. (Jer 27,7)
BECHER DES ZORNS FÜR DIE VÖLKER
15Ja, so hat der HERR, der Gott Israels, zu mir gesprochen: Nimm diesen Becher voll Zornwein aus meiner Hand und gib ihn allen Völkern zu trinken, zu denen ich dich sende!16Trinken sollen sie, taumeln und torkeln vor dem Schwert, das ich unter sie schicke.17Da nahm ich den Becher aus der Hand des HERRN und ließ alle Völker trinken, zu denen der HERR mich sandte: (Jes 51,17)18Jerusalem und die Städte Judas - samt seinen Königen und Fürsten -, um sie zu Trümmerhaufen zu machen, zu einem Bild des Entsetzens, zum Gespött und zum Fluch, wie es heute ist,19den Pharao, den König von Ägypten, samt seinen Höflingen und Fürsten und seinem ganzen Volk,20das gesamte Völkergemisch, alle Könige des Landes Uz, alle Könige des Philisterlandes, Aschkelon, Gaza, Ekron und den Rest von Aschdod,21Edom, Moab und die Ammoniter,22alle Könige von Tyrus, alle Könige von Sidon sowie die Könige der Inseln jenseits des Meeres,23Dedan, Tema, Bus und alle mit gestutztem Haar,24alle Könige Arabiens und alle Könige des Völkergemisches, die in der Wüste wohnen,25alle Könige von Simri, von Elam und Medien,26auch alle Könige des Nordens, die in der Nähe und die in der Ferne, einen nach dem andern, ja, alle Reiche der Welt, die es auf der Erde gibt; und zuletzt soll der König von Scheschach trinken.27Sag zu ihnen: So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Trinkt, berauscht euch und speit, stürzt hin und steht nicht mehr auf vor dem Schwert, das ich unter euch schicke!28Weigern sie sich aber, den Becher aus deiner Hand anzunehmen und zu trinken, dann sag zu ihnen: So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Ihr werdet trinken!29Denn siehe, bei der Stadt, über der mein Name ausgerufen ist, beginne ich mit dem Unheil und da solltet ihr ungestraft bleiben? Nein, ihr werdet nicht ungestraft bleiben; denn ich rufe das Schwert gegen alle Bewohner der Erde - Spruch des HERRN der Heerscharen.30Du aber sollst ihnen alle diese Worte prophezeien und zu ihnen sagen:
Der HERR brüllt von der Höhe herab, / aus seiner heiligen Wohnung lässt er seine Stimme erschallen.
Laut brüllt er über seine Flur / und stimmt wie die Keltertreter ein Jauchzen an / über alle Bewohner der Erde. (Ps 29,1; Joe 4,16; Am 1,2)31Der Schall dringt bis ans Ende der Erde, / denn der HERR hat einen Rechtsstreit mit den Völkern;
er hält Gericht über alles Fleisch. / Die Schuldigen liefert er dem Schwert aus / - Spruch des HERRN.32So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen:
Siehe, Unheil geht aus von Volk zu Volk, / ein gewaltiger Sturm bricht los / von den Grenzen der Erde.33Und die vom HERRN Erschlagenen werden daliegen an jenem Tag / von einem Ende der Erde bis zum andern.
Man beklagt sie nicht, / man sammelt sie nicht und begräbt sie nicht; / sie werden zum Dünger auf dem Acker. (Jer 9,21)34Klagt, ihr Hirten, und schreit; / wälzt euch im Staub, ihr Herren der Herde!
Denn die Zeit ist gekommen, / dass ihr geschlachtet werdet;
ich zerschmettere euch, dass ihr berstet / wie ein Prunkgefäß.[2]35Es gibt keine Flucht mehr für die Hirten, / kein Entrinnen für die Herren der Herde.36Horcht, wie die Hirten aufschreien / und die Herren der Herde wehklagen, / weil der HERR ihre Weide verwüstet.37Die friedlichen Auen sind verwüstet / vom glühenden Zorn des HERRN.38Er verlässt sein Versteck wie ein Löwe; / ihr Land ist zu einem Bild des Entsetzens geworden
durch die Glut des gewalttätigen Schwertes / und durch die Glut seines Zorns.
1A message from the LORD about all the people of Judah came to Jeremiah. It came in the fourth year that Jehoiakim was the king of Judah. It was the first year that Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon. Jehoiakim was the son of Josiah.2Jeremiah, the LORD’s prophet, spoke to all the people of Judah and Jerusalem. He said,3‘For 23 years the LORD’s messages have been coming to me. They began to come in the 13th year that Josiah was king of Judah. He was the son of Amon. The LORD’s messages still come to me today. I’ve spoken to you people again and again. But you haven’t listened to me.4‘The LORD has sent all his servants the prophets to you. They’ve come to you again and again. But you haven’t listened. You haven’t paid any attention to them.5They said, “Each of you must turn from your evil ways and practices. Then you can stay in the land for ever. It’s the land the LORD gave you and your people of long ago.6Don’t follow other gods. Don’t serve them or worship them. Don’t make the LORD angry with the gods your own hands have made. Then he won’t harm you.”7‘ “But you did not listen to me,” announces the LORD. “You have made me very angry with the gods your hands have made. And you have brought harm on yourselves.”8‘The LORD who rules over all says, “You have not listened to my words.9So I will send for all the nations in the north. And I will send for my servant Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon,” announces the LORD. “I will bring all of them against this land and against you who live here. They will march out against all the nations that are around this land. I will set apart Judah and the nations around it in a special way to be destroyed. People will be shocked because of them. And they will make fun of them. Those nations will be destroyed for ever.10I will put an end to the sounds of joy and gladness. I will put an end to the voices of brides and grooms. The sound of grinding millstones will not be heard anymore. And lamps will not be lit anymore.11This whole country will become dry and empty. And these nations will serve the king of Babylon for 70 years.12‘ “But I will punish that king and his nation because they are guilty. I will do this when the 70 years are over,” announces the LORD. “I will make that land a desert for ever.13I have spoken against that land. And I will make all these things happen to it. Everything will happen that is written in this book. And I will make everything Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations come true.14The people of Babylon will become slaves of many other nations and great kings. I will pay them back for what they have done.” ’
The cup of God’s great anger
15The LORD is the God of Israel. He said to me, ‘Take this cup from my hand. It is filled with the wine of my great anger. Make all the nations to which I send you drink it.16When they drink it, they will not even be able to walk straight. It will drive them out of their minds. I am going to send war against them.’17So I took the cup from the LORD’s hand. I made all the nations to which he sent me drink from it.18He sent me to Judah’s kings and officials. He told me to go to Jerusalem and the towns of Judah. He wanted me to tell them they would be destroyed. Then people would be shocked because of them. They would make fun of them. They would use their name in a curse. And that’s how things still are today.19Here is a list of the other kings and nations he sent me to. Pharaoh, the king of Egypt his attendants, his officials, all his people20all the people from other lands who lived there all the kings of Uz the Philistine kings of Ashkelon, Gaza and Ekron the Philistines still living in Ashdod21Edom, Moab, Ammon22all the kings of Tyre and Sidon the kings of the islands and other lands along the Mediterranean Sea23Dedan, Teman, Buz all the other places far away in the east24all the kings of Arabia all the other kings of people who live in the desert25all the kings of Zimri, Elam and Media26all the kings in the north, near and far So he sent me to all the kingdoms on the face of the earth, one after the other. They will all drink from the cup of the LORD’s anger. After they drink, the king of Babylon will drink from it too.27The LORD says, ‘Tell them, “The LORD who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says, ‘Drink from this cup. Get drunk and throw up. Fall down and do not get up again. I am going to send war against you.’ ”28But they might refuse to take the cup from your hand. They might not want to drink from it. Then tell them, “The LORD who rules over all says, ‘You must drink from it!29I am beginning to bring trouble on the city where I have put my Name. You might think you will not be punished. But you will certainly be punished. I am sending war against everyone who lives on earth,’ announces the LORD who rules over all.”30‘Jeremiah, prophesy against them. Tell them, ‘ “The LORD will roar from heaven like a lion. His voice will sound like thunder from his holy temple there. He will roar loudly against his land. He will shout like those who tread grapes in winepresses. He will shout against everyone who lives on earth.31The noise of battle will be heard from one end of the earth to the other. That’s because the LORD will bring charges against the nations. He will judge every human being. He will kill sinful people with his sword,” ’ announces the LORD.32The LORD who rules over all says, ‘Look! Horrible trouble is spreading from one nation to another. A mighty storm is rising. It is coming from a place that is very far away.’33At that time those the LORD kills will be lying around everywhere. They will be found from one end of the earth to the other. No one will mourn for them. Their dead bodies will not be gathered up or buried. Instead, they will be like human waste lying there on the ground.34Weep and cry, you shepherds. Roll in the dust, you leaders of the flock. Your time to be killed has come. You will fall like the best of the rams.35The shepherds won’t have any place to run to. The leaders of the flock won’t be able to escape.36Listen to the cries of the shepherds. Hear the weeping of the leaders of the flock. The LORD is destroying their grasslands.37Their peaceful meadows will be completely destroyed because of the LORD’s great anger.38Like a lion he will leave his den. The land of those leaders will become a desert. That’s because the sword of the LORD brings great harm. His anger will burn against them.
