Sauls Ende

1 Als die Philister gegen Israel kämpften, flohen die Israeliten vor ihnen; viele waren gefallen und lagen erschlagen auf dem Gebirge von Gilboa. (1Sam 28,4; 1Sam 29,1) 2 Die Philister verfolgten Saul und seine Söhne und erschlugen Sauls Söhne Jonatan, Abinadab und Malkischua. (1Sam 14,49; 1Sam 28,19) 3 Um Saul selbst entstand ein schwerer Kampf. Die Bogenschützen hatten ihn entdeckt und es befiel ihn heftiges Beben vor den Schützen. (2Sam 1,6) 4 Da sagte Saul zu seinem Waffenträger: Zieh dein Schwert und durchbohre mich damit! Sonst kommen diese Unbeschnittenen, durchbohren mich und treiben ihren Mutwillen mit mir. Der Waffenträger wollte es nicht tun; denn er hatte große Angst. Da nahm Saul selbst das Schwert und stürzte sich hinein. (2Sam 1,9) 5 Als der Waffenträger sah, dass Saul tot war, stürzte auch er sich in sein Schwert und starb zusammen mit Saul. 6 So kamen Saul, seine drei Söhne, sein Waffenträger und alle seine Männer an jenem Tag gemeinsam ums Leben. 7 Als die Israeliten auf der anderen Seite der Ebene und jenseits des Jordan sahen, dass die Israeliten geflohen und dass Saul und seine Söhne tot waren, verließen sie ihre Städte und flohen. Dann kamen die Philister und besetzten die Städte. 8 Als am nächsten Tag die Philister kamen, um die Erschlagenen auszuplündern, fanden sie Saul und seine drei Söhne, die auf dem Gebirge von Gilboa gefallen waren. 9 Sie schlugen ihm den Kopf ab, zogen ihm die Rüstung aus und schickten beides im Land der Philister umher, um ihrem Götzentempel und dem Volk die Siegesnachricht zu übermitteln. (1Sam 17,51; 2Sam 1,20) 10 Die Rüstung Sauls legten sie im Astartetempel nieder; seinen Leichnam aber hefteten sie an die Mauer von Bet-Schean. (Ri 1,27; 1Sam 21,10) 11 Als die Einwohner von Jabesch-Gilead hörten, was die Philister mit Saul gemacht hatten, (1Sam 11,1) 12 brachen alle kriegstüchtigen Männer auf, marschierten die ganze Nacht hindurch und nahmen die Leiche Sauls und die Leichen seiner Söhne von der Mauer von Bet-Schean ab; sie brachten sie nach Jabesch und verbrannten sie dort.^[1] 13 Dann nahmen sie die Gebeine, begruben sie unter der Tamariske von Jabesch und fasteten sieben Tage lang. (1Sam 14,49; 1Chr 8,33) 3 Und der Kampf tobte heftig um Saul, und die Bogenschützen fanden ihn, und er wurde schwer verwundet von den Schützen. 4 Da sprach Saul zu seinem Waffenträger: Zieh dein Schwert und erstich mich damit, dass nicht diese Unbeschnittenen kommen und mich erstechen und treiben ihren Spott mit mir. 5 Als nun sein Waffenträger sah, dass Saul tot war, stürzte auch er sich in sein Schwert und starb mit ihm. 6 So starben Saul und seine drei Söhne und sein Waffenträger und alle seine Männer miteinander an diesem Tage. 7 Als aber die Männer Israels, die jenseits der Ebene und gegen den Jordan hin wohnten, sahen, dass die Männer Israels geflohen und Saul und seine Söhne tot waren, verließen sie die Städte und flohen auch. Da kamen die Philister und wohnten darin. 8 Am andern Tage kamen die Philister, um die Erschlagenen auszuplündern, und fanden Saul und seine drei Söhne, gefallen auf dem Gebirge Gilboa. 9 Da hieben sie ihm sein Haupt ab und nahmen ihm seine Waffen ab und sandten sie im Philisterland umher, um es zu verkünden im Hause ihrer Götzen und unter dem Volk. (1Sam 17,51) 10 Und sie legten seine Waffen in das Haus der Astarte, aber seinen Leichnam hängten sie auf an der Mauer von Bet-Schean. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. 5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him. 6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together. 7 And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them. 8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa. 9 And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people. 10 And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan. 11 And when the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul; 12 All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there. 13 And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

The Death of Saul
