1 Dann ergriff Elihu das Wort und sprach: 2 Hältst du es für richtig, / dass du sagst: Ich bin gerechter als Gott, 3 dass du fragst, was es dir nützt, und sagst: / Was habe ich davon, dass ich nicht sündige? (Hi 7,20) 4 Ich will mit Worten dir erwidern / und deinen Freunden auch mit dir. 5 Schau den Himmel an und sieh, / blick zu den Wolken auf hoch über dir! (1Mo 1,1; Ps 8,4; Ps 104,3) 6 Wenn du gesündigt hast, was schadest du ihm, / sind zahlreich deine Frevel, was machst du mit ihm? 7 Tust du Recht, was gibst du ihm / oder was empfängt er aus deiner Hand? (Hi 22,3; Lk 17,10) 8 Einen Mann wie dich trifft dein Frevel, / dein Gerechtsein nur den Menschen. 9 Sie schreien über der Bedrücker Menge, / rufen um Hilfe unter dem Arm der Großen. 10 Doch keiner fragt: Wo ist Gott, mein Schöpfer, / der Loblieder schenkt bei Nacht, (Ps 30,6; Ps 90,14; Jer 2,5) 11 der uns mehr lehrt als die Tiere der Erde / und uns weiser macht als die Vögel des Himmels? (Hi 38,41; Ps 119,98; Ps 147,9) 12 Dort schreien sie und doch antwortet er nicht / wegen des Übermuts der Bösen. 13 Wahrhaftig umsonst, Gott hört es nicht / und der Allmächtige achtet nicht darauf. (Hi 22,13) 14 Gar wenn du sagst, du sähest ihn nicht - / das Gericht steht bei ihm, du aber harre auf ihn! 15 Jetzt aber, da sein Zorn nicht straft / und er nicht groß des Frevels achtet, 16 reißt Ijob sinnlos seinen Mund auf, / macht große Worte im Unverstand.

1 And Elihu answered and said: 2 “Do you think this to be just? Do you say, ‘It is my right before God,’ (Hi 32,2) 3 that you ask, ‘What advantage have I? How am I better off than if I had sinned?’ (Hi 34,9) 4 I will answer you and your friends with you. (Hi 34,8; Hi 34,36) 5 Look at the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds, which are higher than you. (Hi 22,12) 6 If you have sinned, what do you accomplish against him? And if your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to him? (Spr 8,36; Jer 7,19) 7 If you are righteous, what do you give to him? Or what does he receive from your hand? (Hi 22,2; Hi 41,11; Spr 9,12; Lk 17,10; Röm 11,35) 8 Your wickedness concerns a man like yourself, and your righteousness a son of man. (Hi 25,6) 9 “Because of the multitude of oppressions people cry out; they call for help because of the arm of the mighty.[1] (2Mo 2,23; Hi 22,8; Hi 34,28; Am 3,9) 10 But none says, ‘Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night, (5Mo 32,6; Hi 4,17; Ps 42,8; Ps 77,6; Ps 149,5; Apg 16,25) 11 who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?’ (Hi 36,22; Ps 94,12; Jes 28,26) 12 There they cry out, but he does not answer, because of the pride of evil men. (Hi 27,9) 13 Surely God does not hear an empty cry, nor does the Almighty regard it. 14 How much less when you say that you do not see him, that the case is before him, and you are waiting for him! (Hi 9,11; Hi 13,15; Hi 23,8) 15 And now, because his anger does not punish, and he does not take much note of transgression,[2] (4Mo 16,29; Ps 89,32) 16 Job opens his mouth in empty talk; he multiplies words without knowledge.” (Hi 34,35; Hi 34,37; Hi 36,12; Hi 38,2; Hi 42,3)
