Zechariah 2

English Standard Version

[1] And I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand! (Eze 40:3; Re 11:1) Then I said, “Where are you going?” And he said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length.” (Zec 1:16) And behold, the angel who talked with me came forward, and another angel came forward to meet him (Zec 1:9; Zec 1:19) and said to him, “Run, say to that young man, ‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of people and livestock in it. (Es 9:19; Isa 49:19; Jer 31:27; Zec 12:6; Zec 14:10) And I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the Lord, and I will be the glory in her midst.’” (Ps 125:2; Isa 4:5; Zec 9:8) Up! Up! Flee from the land of the north, declares the Lord. For I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heavens, declares the Lord. (Isa 48:20; Eze 5:10; Eze 17:21; Zec 7:14) Up! Escape to Zion, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon. (Isa 52:11) For thus said the Lord of hosts, after his glory sent me[2] to the nations who plundered you, for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye: (De 32:10; Jer 12:14) “Behold, I will shake my hand over them, and they shall become plunder for those who served them. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me. (Isa 11:15; Isa 19:16; Eze 33:33; Eze 39:10; Zec 4:9; Zec 6:15) 10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for behold, I come and I will dwell in your midst, declares the Lord. (Le 26:12; Ps 40:7; Isa 12:6; Eze 37:27; Zep 3:14; Zep 3:15; Zec 8:3; 2Co 6:16) 11 And many nations shall join themselves to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people. And I will dwell in your midst, and you shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you. (Isa 2:2; Zec 2:9; Zec 2:10; Zec 8:22) 12 And the Lord will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.” (De 32:9; Hab 2:20; Zec 1:17) 13 Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.
