Song of Solomon 4

English Standard Version

1 He: Behold, you are beautiful, my love, behold, you are beautiful! Your eyes are doves behind your veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats leaping down the slopes of Gilead. (So 1:15; So 5:12; So 6:5; So 6:7; So 7:5; Mic 7:14) 2 Your teeth are like a flock of shorn ewes that have come up from the washing, all of which bear twins, and not one among them has lost its young. (So 6:6) 3 Your lips are like a scarlet thread, and your mouth is lovely. Your cheeks are like halves of a pomegranate behind your veil. (Jos 2:18; So 1:5; So 2:14; So 4:1; So 6:7) 4 Your neck is like the tower of David, built in rows of stone;[1] on it hang a thousand shields, all of them shields of warriors. (2Sa 1:21; Ne 3:19; So 7:4; Eze 27:10) 5 Your two breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle, that graze among the lilies. (Pr 5:19; So 2:9; So 2:16; So 6:3; So 7:3; So 8:10) 6 Until the day breathes and the shadows flee, I will go away to the mountain of myrrh and the hill of frankincense. (So 2:17; So 3:6; So 4:14) 7 You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you. (So 1:15; So 5:2; Eph 5:27) 8 Come with me from Lebanon, my bride; come with me from Lebanon. Depart[2] from the peak of Amana, from the peak of Senir and Hermon, from the dens of lions, from the mountains of leopards. (De 3:9; 1Ki 4:33; 1Ch 5:23; Ps 45:10; Ps 89:12; So 7:4; Isa 62:5) 9 You have captivated my heart, my sister, my bride; you have captivated my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace. (Jud 8:26; So 5:1) 10 How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your oils than any spice! (So 1:2; So 1:3; So 1:4; So 4:9) 11 Your lips drip nectar, my bride; honey and milk are under your tongue; the fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon. (Ge 27:27; Pr 5:3; Pr 24:13; So 4:8; Ho 14:6) 12 A garden locked is my sister, my bride, a spring locked, a fountain sealed. (Ge 29:3; Pr 5:15; So 4:9; Da 6:17) 13 Your shoots are an orchard of pomegranates with all choicest fruits, henna with nard, (Ec 2:5; So 1:12; So 1:14; So 7:13) 14 nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes, with all choice spices— (Ex 30:23; So 3:6; So 4:6; Joh 19:39) 15 a garden fountain, a well of living water, and flowing streams from Lebanon. (So 4:8; Jer 2:13; Joh 4:10; Joh 7:38) 16 Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind! Blow upon my garden, let its spices flow. She: Let my beloved come to his garden, and eat its choicest fruits. (So 4:13; So 5:1; So 6:2)
