1These are the inheritances that the people of Israel received in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the people of Israel gave them to inherit. (Nu 34:17; Jos 17:4; Jos 21:1)2Their inheritance was by lot, just as the Lord had commanded by the hand of Moses for the nine and one-half tribes. (Nu 26:56; Nu 33:54; Nu 34:13)3For Moses had given an inheritance to the two and one-half tribes beyond the Jordan, but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them. (Jos 13:8; Jos 13:33)4For the people of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. And no portion was given to the Levites in the land, but only cities to dwell in, with their pasturelands for their livestock and their substance. (Ge 48:5; 1Ch 5:1)5The people of Israel did as the Lord commanded Moses; they allotted the land. (Nu 35:1; Jos 21:2)
Caleb’s Request and Inheritance
6Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, “You know what the Lord said to Moses the man of God in Kadesh-barnea concerning you and me. (Nu 14:24; Nu 14:30; Nu 32:12; De 1:36; De 1:38; Jos 14:13; Jos 15:17)7I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought him word again as it was in my heart. (Nu 13:6; Nu 13:16; Nu 13:30; Nu 14:6)8But my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the Lord my God. (Nu 13:31; De 1:28)9And Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’ (Nu 14:24; De 1:36; Jos 1:3)10And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old. (Nu 14:30; Jos 14:7)11I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming. (De 31:2; De 34:7)12So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.” (Nu 13:28; Nu 13:33)13Then Joshua blessed him, and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. (Jos 10:36; Jos 15:13; Jos 21:11; Jos 22:6; Jud 1:20; 1Ch 6:55)14Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord, the God of Israel. (Jos 14:8)15Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba.[1] (Arba[2] was the greatest man among the Anakim.) And the land had rest from war. (Ge 23:2; Ge 35:27; Jos 10:36; Jos 11:23; Jos 14:13; Jud 1:10)

Hevron Kalev'e Veriliyor
6Bu arada Yahudaoğulları Gilgal'da bulunan Yeşu'nun yanına geldiler. Kenizli Yefunne oğlu Kalev Yeşu'ya şöyle dedi: ‹‹RAB'bin Kadeş-Barnea'da Tanrı adamı Musa'ya senin ve benim hakkımda neler söylediğini biliyorsun.7RAB'bin kulu Musa ülkeyi araştırmak üzere beni Kadeş-Barnea'dan gönderdiğinde kırk yaşındaydım. Gördüklerimi ona açık yüreklilikle ilettim.8Ne var ki, benimle gelmiş olan soydaşlarım halkı korkuya düşürdüler. Ama ben tümüyle Tanrım RAB'bin yolundan gittim.9Bu nedenle Musa o gün, ‹Tümüyle Tanrım RAB'bin yolundan gittiğin için ayak bastığın topraklar sonsuza dek sana ve oğullarına mülk olacak› diye ant içti.10RAB sözünü tuttu, beni yaşattı. İsrailliler çölden geçerken RAB'bin Musa'ya bu sözleri söylediği günden bu yana kırk beş yıl geçti. Şimdi seksen beş yaşındayım.11Bugün de Musa'nın beni gönderdiği günkü kadar güçlüyüm. O günkü gibi hâlâ savaşa gidip gelecek güçteyim.12RAB'bin o gün söz verdiği gibi, bu dağlık bölgeyi şimdi bana ver. Orada Anaklılar'ın yaşadığını ve surlarla çevrili büyük kentleri olduğunu o gün sen de duymuştun. Belki RAB bana yardım eder de, O'nun dediği gibi, onları oradan sürerim.››13Yeşu Yefunne oğlu Kalev'i kutsadı ve Hevron'u ona mülk olarak verdi.14Böylece Hevron bugün de Kenizli Yefunne oğlu Kalev'in mülküdür. Çünkü o, tümüyle İsrail'in Tanrısı RAB'bin yolundan gitti.15Hevron'un eski adı Kiryat-Arba'ydı. Arba, Anaklılar'ın en güçlü adamının adıydı. Böylece savaş sona erdi ve ülke barışa kavuştu.
