1Then the Lord said to me, “Take a large tablet and write on it in common characters,[1] ‘Belonging to Maher-shalal-hash-baz.’[2] (Isa 30:8)2And I will get reliable witnesses, Uriah the priest and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah, to attest for me.” (2Ki 16:10; 2Ki 16:15; Isa 43:10)3And I went to the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son. Then the Lord said to me, “Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz; (Ho 1:4)4for before the boy knows how to cry ‘My father’ or ‘My mother,’ the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria will be carried away before the king of Assyria.” (Isa 7:8; Isa 7:16)5The Lord spoke to me again:6“Because this people has refused the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, and rejoice over Rezin and the son of Remaliah, (Ne 3:15; Isa 7:1; Isa 7:4; Joh 9:7; Joh 9:11)7therefore, behold, the Lord is bringing up against them the waters of the River,[3] mighty and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory. And it will rise over all its channels and go over all its banks, (Isa 7:20; Isa 17:12; Jer 46:8)8and it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass on, reaching even to the neck, and its outspread wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.” (Isa 7:14; Isa 30:28; Isa 36:1)9Be broken,[4] you peoples, and be shattered;[5] give ear, all you far countries; strap on your armor and be shattered; strap on your armor and be shattered. (Da 2:34)10Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing; speak a word, but it will not stand, for God is with us.[6] (Isa 7:7; Isa 8:8; Ro 8:31)
Fear God, Wait for the Lord
11For the Lord spoke thus to me with his strong hand upon me, and warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying: (Eze 2:8)12“Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. (Isa 7:2; 1Pe 3:14)13But the Lord of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. (Nu 20:12)14And he will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. (Isa 28:16; Eze 11:16; Ro 9:33; 1Pe 2:8)15And many shall stumble on it. They shall fall and be broken; they shall be snared and taken.” (Isa 28:13; Mt 21:44; Lu 20:18)16Bind up the testimony; seal the teaching[7] among my disciples. (Isa 8:1; Da 12:4)17I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in him. (De 31:17; Ps 27:14; Ps 33:20; Isa 1:15; Isa 54:8; Hab 2:3)18Behold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are signs and portents in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion. (Isa 7:3; Heb 2:13)19And when they say to you, “Inquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,” should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living? (Le 19:31; 1Sa 28:11; 2Ki 21:6; 2Ki 23:24; 2Ch 33:6; Ps 106:28; Isa 19:3)20To the teaching and to the testimony! If they will not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn. (Isa 60:1; Lu 16:29)21They will pass through the land,[8] greatly distressed and hungry. And when they are hungry, they will be enraged and will speak contemptuously against[9] their king and their God, and turn their faces upward.22And they will look to the earth, but behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish. And they will be thrust into thick darkness. (Isa 5:30; Na 1:8)

(2Ki 15:29; Isa 7:16; Isa 17:3)5Und der HERR fuhr fort zu mir zu reden und sprach: (Isa 1:2)6Weil dieses Volk das still fließende Wasser Siloahs verachtet, dagegen Freude hat an Rezin und an dem Sohn Remaljas, (Ne 3:15; Isa 7:1; Isa 31:1; Joh 9:7)7siehe, so wird der Herr die starken und großen Wasser des Stromes über sie bringen, den König von Assyrien mit seiner ganzen Herrlichkeit. Der wird sich über all seine Flussbetten ergießen und über alle seine Ufer treten; (Isa 7:17; Isa 50:10; Jer 2:18)8und er wird daherfahren über Juda, es überschwemmen und überfluten, bis an den Hals wird er reichen; und die Spanne seiner [Heeres]flügel wird die Breite deines Landes füllen, Immanuel! (2Ki 18:13; Isa 7:14; Isa 10:28)9Schließt euch zusammen, ihr Völker — ihr werdet doch zerschmettert! Horcht auf, ihr alle in fernen Ländern; rüstet euch — ihr werdet doch zerschmettert; ja, rüstet euch — ihr werdet doch zerschmettert! (Ps 2:1; Isa 54:15; Jer 46:12)10Schmiedet einen Plan — es wird doch nichts daraus! Verabredet etwas — es wird doch nicht ausgeführt; denn Gott ist mit uns! (Ps 46:8; Isa 7:14; Isa 54:16; Joe 4:5; Na 1:9; Ro 8:31)
Aufruf zur Gottesfurcht und zum geduldigen Warten auf den Herrn
11Denn so hat der HERR zu mir gesprochen, indem er mich fest bei der Hand fasste und mich davor warnte, auf dem Weg dieses Volkes zu gehen: (Ps 1:1; Isa 30:21; Jer 10:2; Jer 20:7; Eze 3:14; Ro 12:2)12Nennt nicht alles Verschwörung, was dieses Volk Verschwörung nennt, und vor dem, was es fürchtet, fürchtet euch nicht und erschreckt nicht davor! (Isa 7:2; Isa 44:8; Isa 51:12)13Den HERRN der Heerscharen, den sollt ihr heiligen; er sei eure Furcht und euer Schrecken! (Isa 29:23; Mal 2:5; Lu 12:5; Heb 12:28)14So wird er [euch] zum Heiligtum werden; aber zum Stein des Anstoßes und zum Fels des Strauchelns für die beiden Häuser Israels, zum Fallstrick und zur Schlinge für die Bewohner von Jerusalem, (Ps 46:2; Pr 18:10; Lu 2:34; Ro 9:33; 1Co 1:23; 1Pe 2:8; Re 21:22)15sodass viele unter ihnen straucheln und fallen und zerbrochen, verstrickt und gefangen werden. (Mt 21:44; Ro 9:32)16Binde das Zeugnis zusammen, versiegle das Gesetz in meinen Jüngern! (Isa 8:20; Da 12:4)17Und ich will warten auf den HERRN, der sein Angesicht verbirgt vor dem Haus Jakobs, und will auf ihn hoffen. (Ps 27:14; Isa 26:3; Isa 54:8; Isa 64:6; La 3:26; Mic 7:8; Hab 2:1; Lu 2:25; Lu 2:38; Heb 2:13)18Siehe, ich und die Kinder, die mir der HERR gegeben hat, wir sind Zeichen und Wunder für Israel von dem HERRN der Heerscharen, der auf dem Berg Zion wohnt. (Ps 132:13; Isa 12:6; Eze 37:21; Ho 2:1)19Wenn sie euch aber sagen werden: Befragt die Totenbeschwörer und Wahrsager, die flüstern und murmeln! — [so antwortet ihnen]: Soll nicht ein Volk seinen Gott befragen, oder soll man die Toten für die Lebendigen befragen? (De 18:10; 1Sa 28:7; 2Ki 1:3)20»Zum Gesetz und zum Zeugnis!« — wenn sie nicht so sprechen, gibt es für sie kein Morgenrot. (Ps 1:3; Isa 58:8; Ho 6:3; Mal 3:20; Mal 3:22; Lu 16:29; Lu 24:44; 2Pe 1:19)21Und sie werden bedrückt und hungrig [im Land] umherschleichen, und wenn sie dann Hunger leiden, werden sie in Zorn geraten und werden ihren König und ihren Gott verfluchen. Wenn sie sich dann nach oben wenden (Pr 19:3; Re 9:20; Re 16:9)22oder wenn sie auf die Erde sehen, siehe, so ist da Drangsal und Finsternis, beängstigendes Dunkel, und in dichte Finsternis wird es verstoßen. (2Ki 15:29; Job 18:18; Isa 5:30; Isa 9:1; Jer 13:16; Am 5:18; Mt 22:13; Jud 1:13)
Verheißung des kommenden Friedefürsten
23Doch bleibt nicht im Dunkel [das Land], das bedrängt ist. Wie er in der ersten Zeit das Land Sebulon und das Land Naphtali gering machte, so wird er in der letzten Zeit den Weg am See zu Ehren bringen, jenseits des Jordan, das Gebiet der Heiden. (Ps 30:6; Isa 8:17; Mt 4:15; Mt 4:16; Lu 1:78)
