1Samson went to Gaza, and there he saw a prostitute, and he went in to her. (Jos 15:47)2The Gazites were told, “Samson has come here.” And they surrounded the place and set an ambush for him all night at the gate of the city. They kept quiet all night, saying, “Let us wait till the light of the morning; then we will kill him.” (1Sa 23:26; Ps 118:10; Ac 9:24)3But Samson lay till midnight, and at midnight he arose and took hold of the doors of the gate of the city and the two posts, and pulled them up, bar and all, and put them on his shoulders and carried them to the top of the hill that is in front of Hebron.4After this he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.5And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Seduce him, and see where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to humble him. And we will each give you 1,100 pieces of silver.” (Jos 13:3; Jud 14:15; Jud 16:19)6So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me where your great strength lies, and how you might be bound, that one could subdue you.” (Jud 16:5)7Samson said to her, “If they bind me with seven fresh bowstrings that have not been dried, then I shall become weak and be like any other man.” (Jud 16:11; Jud 16:17)8Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh bowstrings that had not been dried, and she bound him with them.9Now she had men lying in ambush in an inner chamber. And she said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he snapped the bowstrings, as a thread of flax snaps when it touches the fire. So the secret of his strength was not known.10Then Delilah said to Samson, “Behold, you have mocked me and told me lies. Please tell me how you might be bound.”11And he said to her, “If they bind me with new ropes that have not been used, then I shall become weak and be like any other man.” (Jud 15:13)12So Delilah took new ropes and bound him with them and said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And the men lying in ambush were in an inner chamber. But he snapped the ropes off his arms like a thread.13Then Delilah said to Samson, “Until now you have mocked me and told me lies. Tell me how you might be bound.” And he said to her, “If you weave the seven locks of my head with the web and fasten it tight with the pin, then I shall become weak and be like any other man.”14So while he slept, Delilah took the seven locks of his head and wove them into the web.[1] And she made them tight with the pin and said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he awoke from his sleep and pulled away the pin, the loom, and the web.15And she said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and you have not told me where your great strength lies.” (Jud 14:16)16And when she pressed him hard with her words day after day, and urged him, his soul was vexed to death. (Jud 14:17)17And he told her all his heart, and said to her, “A razor has never come upon my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If my head is shaved, then my strength will leave me, and I shall become weak and be like any other man.” (Jud 13:5)18When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called the lords of the Philistines, saying, “Come up again, for he has told me all his heart.” Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hands. (Jud 16:5)19She made him sleep on her knees. And she called a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him, and his strength left him. (Jud 16:5)20And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And he awoke from his sleep and said, “I will go out as at other times and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him. (1Sa 28:15)21And the Philistines seized him and gouged out his eyes and brought him down to Gaza and bound him with bronze shackles. And he ground at the mill in the prison. (Ex 11:5; Mt 24:41)22But the hair of his head began to grow again after it had been shaved.
The Death of Samson
23Now the lords of the Philistines gathered to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god and to rejoice, and they said, “Our god has given Samson our enemy into our hand.” (1Sa 5:2; 1Ch 10:10)24And when the people saw him, they praised their god. For they said, “Our god has given our enemy into our hand, the ravager of our country, who has killed many of us.”[2] (Da 5:4)25And when their hearts were merry, they said, “Call Samson, that he may entertain us.” So they called Samson out of the prison, and he entertained them. They made him stand between the pillars. (Jud 19:6; 2Sa 13:28)26And Samson said to the young man who held him by the hand, “Let me feel the pillars on which the house rests, that I may lean against them.”27Now the house was full of men and women. All the lords of the Philistines were there, and on the roof there were about 3,000 men and women, who looked on while Samson entertained. (De 22:8; 2Sa 11:2; Ne 8:16; Mt 24:17; Mr 13:15; Lu 17:31)28Then Samson called to the Lord and said, “O Lord God, please remember me and please strengthen me only this once, O God, that I may be avenged on the Philistines for my two eyes.” (Jer 15:15)29And Samson grasped the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and he leaned his weight against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other.30And Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines.” Then he bowed with all his strength, and the house fell upon the lords and upon all the people who were in it. So the dead whom he killed at his death were more than those whom he had killed during his life.31Then his brothers and all his family came down and took him and brought him up and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of Manoah his father. He had judged Israel twenty years. (Jud 13:25)
1روزی سامسون به شهر فلسطينی غزه رفت و شب را با زن بدكارهای به سر برد.2بزودی در همه جا پخش شد كه او به غزه آمده است. پس مردان شهر تمام شب نزد دروازه در كمين نشستند تا اگر خواست بگريزد او را بگيرند. آنها در شب هيچ اقدامی نكردند بلكه گفتند: «چون صبح هوا روشن شود، او را خواهيم كشت.»3اما سامسون تا نصف شب خوابيد؛ سپس برخاسته بيرون رفت و دروازهٔ شهر را با چارچوبش از جا كند و آن را بر دوش خود گذارده، به بالای تپهای كه در مقابل حبرون است برد.4مدتی بعد، سامسون عاشق زنی از وادی سورق، به نام دليله شد.5پنج رهبر فلسطينی نزد دليله آمده، به او گفتند: «سعی كن بفهمی چه چيزی او را اينچنين نيرومند ساخته است و چطور میتوانيم او را بگيريم و ببنديم. اگر اين كار را انجام دهی هر يک از ما هزار و صد مثقال نقره به تو پاداش خواهيم داد.»6پس دليله به سامسون گفت: «خواهش میكنم به من بگو كه رمز قدرت تو چيست؟ چگونه میتوان تو را بست و ناتوان كرد؟»7سامسون در جواب او گفت: «اگر با هفت زه كمان بسته شوم، مثل هر كس ديگر ناتوان خواهم شد.»8پس رهبران فلسطينی هفت زه كمان برای دليله آوردند و دليله با آن هفت زه كمان او را بست.9در ضمن، او چند نفر فلسطينی را در اتاق مجاور مخفی كرده بود. دليله پس از بستن سامسون فرياد زد: «سامسون! فلسطینیها برای گرفتن تو آمدهاند!» سامسون زه را مثل نخ كتانی كه به آتش برخورد میكند، پاره كرد و راز قدرتش آشكار نشد.10سپس دليله به وی گفت: «سامسون، تو مرا مسخره كردهای! چرا به من دروغ گفتی؟ خواهش میكنم به من بگو كه چطور میتوان تو را بست؟»11سامسون گفت: «اگر با طنابهای تازهای كه هرگز از آنها استفاده نشده، بسته شوم، مانند ساير مردان، ناتوان خواهم شد.»12پس دليله طنابهای تازهای گرفته، او را بست. اين بار نيز فلسطينیها در اتاق مجاور مخفی شده بودند. دليله فرياد زد: «سامسون! فلسطينیها برای گرفتن تو آمدهاند!» ولی او طنابها را مثل نخ از بازوان خود گسيخت.13دليله به وی گفت: «باز هم مرا دست انداختی و به من راست نگفتی! حالا به من بگو كه واقعاً چطور میتوان تو را بست؟» سامسون گفت: «اگر هفت گيسوی مرا در تارهای دستگاه نساجیات ببافی مانند مردان ديگر، ناتوان خواهم شد.»14پس وقتی او در خواب بود، دليله موهای او را در تارهای دستگاه نساجی بافت و آنها را با ميخ دستگاه محكم كرد. سپس فرياد زد: «سامسون! فلسطينیها آمدند!» او بيدار شد و با يک حركت سر، دستگاه را از جا كند!15دليله به او گفت: «چگونه میگويی مرا دوست داری و حال آنكه به من اعتماد نداری؟ سه مرتبه است كه مرا دست انداختی و به من نمیگويی راز قدرتت در چيست؟»16-17دليله هر روز با اصرارهای خود سامسون را به ستوه میآورد، تا اينكه بالاخره راز قدرت خود را برای او فاش ساخت. سامسون به وی گفت: «موی سر من هرگز تراشيده نشده است. چون من از بدو تولد نذيره بوده و وقف خدا شدهام. اگر موی سرم تراشيده شود، نيروی من از بين رفته، مانند هر شخص ديگری ناتوان خواهم شد.»18دليله فهميد كه اين دفعه حقيقت را گفته است. پس به دنبال آن پنج رهبر فلسطينی فرستاد و به آنها گفت: «بياييد، اين دفعه او همه چيز را به من گفته است.» پس آنها پولی را كه به وی وعده داده بودند، با خود برداشته، آمدند.19دليله سر سامسون را روی دامن خود گذاشت و او را خواباند. سپس به دستور دليله موی سرش را تراشيدند. بدين ترتيب، دليله سامسون را درمانده كرد و نيروی او از او رفت.20آنگاه دليله فرياد زد: «سامسون! فلسطينیها آمدهاند تو را بگيرند!» او بيدار شد و با خود اينطور فكر كرد: «مانند دفعات پيش به خود تكانی میدهم و آزاد میشوم!» اما غافل از اين بود كه خداوند او را ترک كرده است.21در اين موقع فلسطينیها آمده، او را گرفتند و چشمانش را از كاسه درآورده، او را به غزه بردند. در آنجا سامسون را با زنجيرهای مفرغی بسته به زندان انداختند و وادارش كردند گندم دستاس كند.22اما طولی نكشيد كه موی سرش دوباره بلند شد.
مرگ سامسون
23-24رهبران فلسطينی جمع شدند تا جشن مفصلی بر پا نمايند و قربانی بزرگی به بت خود داجون تقديم كنند، چون پيروزی بر دشمن خود، سامسون را مديون بت خود میدانستند. آنها با ديدن سامسون خدای خود را ستايش میكردند و میگفتند: «خدای ما، دشمن ما را كه زمينمان را خراب كرد و بسياری از فلسطینیها را كشت، اكنون به دست ما تسليم كرده است.»25-26جماعت نيمه مست فرياد میزدند: «سامسون را از زندان بياوريد تا ما را سرگرم كند.» سامسون را از زندان به داخل معبد آورده، او را در ميان دو ستون كه سقف معبد بر آنها قرار گرفته بود بر پا داشتند. سامسون به پسری كه دستش را گرفته، او را راهنمايی میكرد گفت: «دستهای مرا روی دو ستون بگذار، چون میخواهم به آنها تكيه كنم.»27در اين موقع معبد از مردم پر شده بود. پنج رهبر فلسطينی همراه با سه هزار نفر در ايوانهای معبد به تماشای سامسون نشسته، او را مسخره میكردند.28سامسون نزد خداوند دعا كرده، چنين گفت: «ای خداوند، خدای من، التماس میكنم مرا به یاد آور و يک بار ديگر نيرويم را به من بازگردان، تا انتقام چشمانم را از اين فلسطینیها بگيرم.»29-30آنگاه سامسون دستهای خود را بر ستونها گذاشت و گفت: «بگذار با فلسطينیها بميرم.» سپس با تمام قوت بر ستونها فشار آورد و سقف معبد بر سر رهبران فلسطينی و همهٔ مردمی كه در آنجا بودند فرو ريخت. تعداد افرادی كه او هنگام مرگش كشت بيش از تمام كسانی بود كه او در طول عمرش كشته بود.31بعد برادران و ساير بستگانش آمده، جسد او را بردند و در كنار قبر پدرش مانوح كه بين راه صرعه و اِشتائُل قرار داشت، دفن كردند. او مدت بيست سال رهبر قوم اسرائيل بود.
