1The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord after Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he took him bound in chains along with all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were being exiled to Babylon. (Jos 18:25; Ps 149:8; Jer 39:14)2The captain of the guard took Jeremiah and said to him, “The Lord your God pronounced this disaster against this place. (De 29:24; De 29:28)3The Lord has brought it about, and has done as he said. Because you sinned against the Lord and did not obey his voice, this thing has come upon you. (De 29:25; Jer 44:3; Jer 44:23; Da 9:10)4Now, behold, I release you today from the chains on your hands. If it seems good to you to come with me to Babylon, come, and I will look after you well, but if it seems wrong to you to come with me to Babylon, do not come. See, the whole land is before you; go wherever you think it good and right to go. (Ge 20:15; Jer 39:12; Jer 40:1)5If you remain,[1] then return to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon appointed governor of the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people. Or go wherever you think it right to go.” So the captain of the guard gave him an allowance of food and a present, and let him go. (Jer 39:14; Jer 41:2)6Then Jeremiah went to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, at Mizpah, and lived with him among the people who were left in the land. (Jos 18:26; Jer 37:12; Jer 39:10; Jer 39:14; Jer 40:5; Jer 41:6)7When all the captains of the forces in the open country and their men heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land and had committed to him men, women, and children, those of the poorest of the land who had not been taken into exile to Babylon, (2Ki 25:12; 2Ki 25:23; Jer 39:10; Jer 40:5)8they went to Gedaliah at Mizpah—Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, Johanan the son of Kareah, Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, Jezaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men. (Jer 40:6; Jer 40:13; Jer 40:14; Jer 40:15; Jer 40:16; Jer 41:1; Jer 42:1; Jer 42:8)9Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, swore to them and their men, saying, “Do not be afraid to serve the Chaldeans. Dwell in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you. (Jer 38:20)10As for me, I will dwell at Mizpah, to represent you before the Chaldeans who will come to us. But as for you, gather wine and summer fruits and oil, and store them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken.” (Jer 40:6; Jer 40:12)11Likewise, when all the Judeans who were in Moab and among the Ammonites and in Edom and in other lands heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah and had appointed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, as governor over them, (Ge 36:8; Nu 22:1; 1Sa 11:1; 1Sa 12:12; 2Sa 8:2)12then all the Judeans returned from all the places to which they had been driven and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah. And they gathered wine and summer fruits in great abundance. (Jer 40:10; Jer 43:5)13Now Johanan the son of Kareah and all the leaders of the forces in the open country came to Gedaliah at Mizpah (Jer 40:8; Jer 40:15; Jer 41:11; Jer 42:1; Jer 42:8)14and said to him, “Do you know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life?” But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam would not believe them. (Jer 41:10)15Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke secretly to Gedaliah at Mizpah, “Please let me go and strike down Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no one will know it. Why should he take your life, so that all the Judeans who are gathered about you would be scattered, and the remnant of Judah would perish?” (Jer 42:2)16But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, “You shall not do this thing, for you are speaking falsely of Ishmael.”
1اسيران اورشليم و يهودا كه به بابل برده میشدند، در راه به رامه رسيدند. من نيز در ميان ايشان بودم؛ ولی در آنجا نبوزرادان فرماندهٔ سپاه بابل زنجيرهای مرا گشود و آزادم كرد.2او مرا فرا خواند و گفت: «خداوند، خدای تو گفته بود كه اين سرزمين را ويران خواهد نمود؛3و اكنون او قول خود را عملی كرده است. تمام اين بلايا بدين سبب است كه شما نسبت به او گناه كردهايد و او را اطاعت ننمودهايد.4حال، من زنجيرهايت را میگشايم و آزادت میكنم. اگر میخواهی با من به بابل بيايی، ترتيبی میدهم كه از تو به خوبی مراقبت به عمل آيد؛ ولی اگر نمیخواهی بيايی، اشكالی ندارد؛ تمام اين سرزمين پيش روی توست، به هر جايی كه دوست داری، برو.5اما اگر قصد داری بمانی، نزد جدليا (پسر اخيقام، نوهٔ شافان)، كه پادشاه بابل او را حاكم يهودا ساخته است، برو و در ميان بقيهٔ قوم كه جدليا بر ايشان حكومت میكند، بمان. به هر حال، مختار هستی. در هر جا كه میخواهی، ساكن شو!» سپس مقداری خوراک و پول به من داد و مرا آزاد كرد.6پس به شهر مصفه نزد جدليا آمدم و در ميان بقيهٔ قوم كه در يهودا باقی مانده بودند، ساكن شدم.
جدليا، حاكم يهودا
7در اين ميان، بعضی از سرداران لشكر و سربازانشان هنوز تسليم بابلیها نشده بودند و در صحرا به سر میبردند. ولی وقتی شنيدند كه جدليا از طرف پادشاه بابل، سرپرست بازماندگان و فقرای سرزمين شده است،8برای ديدن جدليا به مصفه آمدند. اين افراد عبارت بودند از: اسماعيل (پسر نتنيا)، يوحانان و يوناتان (پسران قاريح)، سرايا (پسر تنحومت)، پسران عيفای (اهل نطوفات)، يزنيا (پسر معكاتی)، و سربازان ايشان.9جدليا آنها را مطمئن ساخته، گفت: «اگر تسليم بابلیها بشويد، در امن و امان خواهيد ماند. همینجا بمانيد، به پادشاه بابل خدمت كنيد تا همه چيز به خير و صلاحتان شود.10من در مصفه میمانم تا به بابلیها كه برای رسيدگی به امور اين سرزمين میآيند، پاسخگو باشم؛ ولی شما در هر شهری كه میخواهيد، میتوانيد ساكن شويد و زمين را آباد كنيد و به جمعآوری و ذخيره كردن ميوه، شراب و روغن مشغول شويد.»11يهوديانی نيز كه به موآب، عمون، ادوم و آبادیهای اطراف گريخته بودند، شنيدند كه هنوز عدهای در يهودا باقی ماندهاند و جدليا فرماندار سرزمين شده است.12بنابراين از تمام اين سرزمينها به يهودا بازگشتند و در مصفه نزد جدليا سكونت گزيدند و به كشت و زرع پرداختند و محصول فراوان جمع كردند.
ماجرای قتل جدليا
13-14پس از مدتی، يوحانان (پسر قاريح) و ساير سرداران لشكر كه تسليم بابلیها نشده بودند، به مصفه آمدند و به جدليا اطلاع دادند كه بعليس، پادشاه عمونیها، اسماعيل (پسر نتنيا) را مأمور كرده تا او را بكشد. ولی جدليا گفتهٔ آنها را باور نكرد.15يوحانان محرمانه به جدليا گفت: «اجازه بده كه بروم و اسماعيل را بكشم. هيچكس هم از ماجرا باخبر نخواهد شد. چرا بگذاريم او تو را بكشد؟ هيچ فكر كردهای در آن صورت بر سر يهوديانی كه به اينجا بازگشتهاند، چه خواهد آمد؟ همه پراكنده خواهند شد و از بين خواهند رفت.»16ولی جدليا گفت: «من به تو اجازه نمیدهم چنين كاری بكنی؛ آنچه دربارهٔ اسماعيل میگويی حقيقت ندارد.»
