The Faith of a Centurion
5When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, (Lu 7:1)6“Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.”7And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.”8But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. (Ps 107:20; Mt 8:16)9For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant,[3] ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”10When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel[4] have I found such faith. Jesus Heals Many
14And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. (Mr 1:29; Lu 4:38; 1Co 9:5)15He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him. (Mt 9:25)16That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. (Mt 4:24; Mt 8:8; Mt 8:28)17This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.” (Isa 53:4; Mt 1:22)
The Cost of Following Jesus
18Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. (Mt 14:22; Mr 4:35; Lu 8:22; Joh 6:15)19And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” (Lu 9:57)20And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”21Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”22And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” (Joh 5:25)
Jesus Calms a Storm
23And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. (Mr 4:36; Lu 8:22; Joh 6:16)24And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. (Joh 4:6; Joh 4:7)25And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” (Mt 14:30)26And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. Jesus Heals Two Men with Demons
28And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes,[5] two demon-possessed[6] men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. Jesus restores two demon-possessed men
28When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes,[3] two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no-one could pass that way.29‘What do you want with us, Son of God?’ they shouted. ‘Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?’30Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding.31The demons begged Jesus, ‘If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.’32He said to them, ‘Go!’ So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.33Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men.34Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. He said, ‘Lord, if you are willing to make me “clean”, you can do it.’3Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing to do it,’ he said. ‘Be “clean”!’ Right away the man was healed of his skin disease.4Then Jesus said to him, ‘Don’t tell anyone. Go and show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift Moses commanded. It will be a witness to everyone.’
A Roman commander has faith
5When Jesus entered Capernaum, a Roman commander came to him. He asked Jesus for help.6‘Lord’, he said, ‘my servant lies at home and can’t move. He is suffering terribly.’7Jesus said, ‘Shall I come and heal him?’8The commander replied, ‘Lord, I am not good enough to have you come into my house. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.9I myself am a man under authority. And I have soldiers who obey my orders. I tell this one, “Go”, and he goes. I tell that one, “Come”, and he comes. I say to my slave, “Do this”, and he does it.’10When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. He said to those following him, ‘What I’m about to tell you is true. In Israel I have not found anyone whose faith is so strong.11I say to you that many will come from the east and the west. They will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of heaven. They will sit with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.12But those who think they belong in the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness. There they will weep and grind their teeth.’13Then Jesus said to the Roman commander, ‘Go! It will be done just as you believed it would.’ And his servant was healed at that moment.
Jesus heals many people

28Jesus arrived at the other side of the lake in the area of the Gadarenes. Two men controlled by demons met him. They came from the tombs. The men were so wild that no one could pass that way.29‘Son of God, what do you want with us?’ they shouted. ‘Have you come here to punish us before the time for us to be judged?’30Not very far away, a large herd of pigs was feeding.31The demons begged Jesus, ‘If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.’32Jesus said to them, ‘Go!’ So the demons came out of the men and went into the pigs. The whole herd rushed down the steep bank. They ran into the lake and drowned in the water.33Those who were tending the pigs ran off. They went into the town and reported all this. They told the people what had happened to the men who had been controlled by demons.34Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. When they saw him, they begged him to leave their area.

Die Heilung der Schwiegermutter des Petrus
14Jesus ging in das Haus des Petrus und sah dessen Schwiegermutter mit Fieber daniederliegen. (Mr 1:29; Lu 4:38)15Da berührte er ihre Hand und das Fieber wich von ihr, sie stand auf und diente ihm.
Die Erfüllung der Schrift im Vollmachtshandeln Jesu
16Am Abend brachte man viele Besessene zu ihm. Er trieb mit seinem Wort die Geister aus und heilte alle Kranken, (Mr 1:32; Lu 4:40)17damit sich erfüllen sollte, was durch den Propheten Jesaja gesagt worden ist: Er hat unsere Leiden auf sich genommen und unsere Krankheiten getragen. (Isa 53:4)
Konsequenz der Nachfolge
18Als Jesus die Menge sah, die um ihn war, befahl er, ans andere Ufer zu fahren.19Da kam ein Schriftgelehrter zu ihm und sagte: Meister, ich will dir nachfolgen, wohin du auch gehst. (Lu 9:57)20Jesus antwortete ihm: Die Füchse haben Höhlen und die Vögel des Himmels Nester; der Menschensohn aber hat keinen Ort, wo er sein Haupt hinlegen kann.21Ein anderer aber, einer seiner Jünger, sagte zu ihm: Herr, lass mich zuerst weggehen und meinen Vater begraben.22Jesus erwiderte: Folge mir nach; lass die Toten ihre Toten begraben! Der Sturm auf dem See
23Er stieg in das Boot und seine Jünger folgten ihm nach. (Mr 4:35; Lu 8:22)24Und siehe, es erhob sich auf dem See ein gewaltiger Sturm, sodass das Boot von den Wellen überflutet wurde. Jesus aber schlief.25Da traten die Jünger zu ihm und weckten ihn; sie riefen: Herr, rette uns, wir gehen zugrunde! (Mt 14:30)26Er sagte zu ihnen: Warum habt ihr solche Angst, ihr Kleingläubigen? Dann stand er auf, drohte den Winden und dem See und es trat völlige Stille ein. (Mt 14:31; Mr 6:51)27Die Menschen aber staunten und sagten: Was für einer ist dieser, dass ihm sogar die Winde und der See gehorchen?
Die Heilung zweier Besessener von Gadara
28Als Jesus an das andere Ufer kam, in das Gebiet der Gadarener, liefen ihm aus den Grabhöhlen zwei Besessene entgegen. Sie waren so gefährlich, dass niemand auf jenem Weg entlanggehen konnte. (Mr 5:1; Lu 8:26)29Und siehe, sie schrien: Was haben wir mit dir zu tun, Sohn Gottes? Bist du hierhergekommen, um uns vor der Zeit zu quälen? (Jud 11:12; 1Ki 17:18; 2Ki 3:13; 2Ch 35:21; Ho 14:9; Mr 1:24; Lu 4:34; Joh 2:4)30In einiger Entfernung weidete eine große Schweineherde.31Da baten ihn die Dämonen: Wenn du uns austreibst, dann schick uns in die Schweineherde!32Und er sagte zu ihnen: Weg mit euch! Die aber fuhren aus und in die Schweine hinein.
