Psalm 8

English Standard Version

1 To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith.[1] A Psalm of David. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. (Ex 34:5; Ps 81:1; Ps 84:1; Ps 113:4; Ps 148:13; Isa 12:4) 2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger. (Ps 44:16; Jer 16:19; Mt 11:25; Mt 21:16; 1Co 1:27) 3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, (Ge 1:16; Ex 8:19; Ex 31:18; Ps 111:2) 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? (Ge 8:1; Ge 21:1; Ge 50:24; Job 7:17; Job 25:6; Ps 65:9; Ps 80:17; Ps 144:3; Heb 2:6) 5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings[2] and crowned him with glory and honor. (Ge 1:26; Ps 21:5) 6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, (Ge 1:26; Ge 1:28; Mt 28:18; 1Co 15:27) 7 all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Psalm 8

New International Version

1 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. 2 Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. 3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?[1] 5 You have made them[2] a little lower than the angels[3] and crowned them[4] with glory and honor. 6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their[5] feet: 7 all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, 8 the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. 9 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Psalm 8

King James Version

1 To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of David. O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. 2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. 3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: 7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; 8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. 9 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Psalm 8

New Int. Readers Version

1 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in the whole earth! You have made your glory higher than the heavens. 2 You have made sure that children and infants praise you. You have done it because of your enemies. You have done it to put a stop to their talk. 3 I think about the heavens. I think about what your fingers have created. I think about the moon and stars that you have set in place. 4 What is a human being that you think about him? What is a son of man that you take care of him? 5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings. You placed on him a crown of glory and honor. 6 You made human beings the rulers over all that your hands have created. You put everything under their control. 7 They rule over all flocks and herds and over the wild animals. 8 They rule over the birds of the air and over the fish in the ocean. They rule over everything that swims in the oceans. 9 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in the whole earth!
