Psalm 66

English Standard Version

1 To the choirmaster. A Song. A Psalm. Shout for joy to God, all the earth; (Ps 81:1; Ps 95:1; Ps 98:4; Ps 100:1)2 sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise! (Jos 7:19; Isa 42:12)3 Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you. (Ps 18:44; Ps 65:5)4 All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.” (Ps 22:27)5 Come and see what God has done: he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man. (Ps 46:8; Ps 66:3; Ps 66:16)6 He turned the sea into dry land; they passed through the river on foot. There did we rejoice in him, (Ex 14:21; Jos 3:14; Ps 74:15)7 who rules by his might forever, whose eyes keep watch on the nations— let not the rebellious exalt themselves. (Ps 11:4)8 Bless our God, O peoples; let the sound of his praise be heard,9 who has kept our soul among the living and has not let our feet slip. (Ps 121:3)10 For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried. (Job 23:10)11 You brought us into the net; you laid a crushing burden on our backs; (La 1:13; Eze 12:13)12 you let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance. (Isa 43:2; Isa 51:23)13 I will come into your house with burnt offerings; I will perform my vows to you, (Ps 50:14)14 that which my lips uttered and my mouth promised when I was in trouble. (Ps 18:6)15 I will offer to you burnt offerings of fattened animals, with the smoke of the sacrifice of rams; I will make an offering of bulls and goats.16 Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for my soul. (Ps 34:11; Ps 66:5)17 I cried to him with my mouth, and high praise was on[1] my tongue.[2]18 If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. (Job 27:9; Job 36:21; Pr 28:9; Isa 59:2; Joh 9:31; Jas 4:3)19 But truly God has listened; he has attended to the voice of my prayer. (Ps 116:1)20 Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me!

So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you.4 All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing the praises of your name.’[1]5 Come and see what God has done, his awesome deeds for mankind!6 He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot – come, let us rejoice in him.7 He rules for ever by his power, his eyes watch the nations – let not the rebellious rise up against him.8 Praise our God, all peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard;9 he has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping.10 For you, God, tested us; you refined us like silver.11 You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs.12 You let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.13 I will come to your temple with burnt offerings and fulfil my vows to you –14 vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble.15 I will sacrifice fat animals to you and an offering of rams; I will offer bulls and goats.16 Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.17 I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue.18 If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened;19 but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer.20 Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!

Psalm 66

King James Version

1 To the chief Musician, A Song or Psalm. Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:2 Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.3 Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.4 All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.5 Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.6 He turned the sea into dry land : they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him.7 He ruleth by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.8 O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard:9 Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.10 For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.11 Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins.12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place .13 I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows,14 Which my lips have uttered, and my mouth hath spoken, when I was in trouble.15 I will offer unto thee burnt sacrifices of fatlings, with the incense of rams; I will offer bullocks with goats. Selah.16 Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.17 I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue.18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me :19 But verily God hath heard me ; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.20 Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.

Psalm 66

New International Reader’s Version

1 Shout to God for joy, everyone on earth!2 Sing about the glory of his name! Give him glorious praise!3 Say to God, ‘What wonderful things you do! Your power is so great that your enemies bow down to you in fear.4 Everyone on earth bows down to you. They sing praise to you. They sing the praises of your name.’5 Come and see what God has done. See what wonderful things he has done for people!6 He turned the Red Sea into dry land. The people of Israel passed through the waters on foot. Come, let us be full of joy because of what he did.7 He rules by his power for ever. His eyes watch the nations. Let no one who refuses to obey him rise up against him.8 Praise our God, all you nations. Let the sound of the praise you give him be heard.9 He has kept us alive. He has kept our feet from slipping.10 God, you have tested us. You put us through fire to make us like silver.11 You put us in prison. You placed heavy loads on our backs.12 You let our enemies ride their chariots over our heads. We went through fire and water. But you brought us to a place where we have everything we need.13 I will come to your temple with burnt offerings. I will keep my promises to you.14 I made them with my lips. My mouth spoke them when I was in trouble.15 I will sacrifice fat animals to you as burnt offerings. I will offer rams, bulls and goats to you.16 Come and hear, all you who have respect for God. Let me tell you what he has done for me.17 I cried out to him with my mouth. I praised him with my tongue.18 If I had enjoyed having sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.19 But God has surely listened. He has heard my prayer.20 Give praise to God. He has accepted my prayer. He has not held back his love from me.
