Psalm 6

English Standard Version

1 To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments; according to The Sheminith.[1] A Psalm of David. O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath. (1Ch 15:21; Ps 38:1; Ps 94:12; Ps 118:18; Pr 3:11; Jer 30:11; Jer 46:28; Heb 12:3)2 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled. (Ps 30:2; Ps 31:10; Ps 41:4; Ps 103:3)3 My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O Lord—how long? (Ps 90:13; Joh 12:27)4 Turn, O Lord, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love.5 For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who will give you praise? (Ps 30:9; Ps 88:10; Ps 115:17; Isa 38:18)6 I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping. (Ps 38:9; Ps 69:3)7 My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows weak because of all my foes. (Job 17:7; Ps 31:9; Ps 38:10; Ps 88:9; La 2:11; La 5:17)8 Depart from me, all you workers of evil, for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping. (Ps 3:4; Ps 94:4; Ps 119:115; Ps 139:19; Mt 7:23; Mt 25:41; Lu 13:27)9 The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord accepts my prayer. (1Ki 8:38; Ps 55:1)10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled; they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment. (Ps 40:14; Ps 56:9)

Psalm 6

New International Version

1 Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.[1]2 Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint; heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.3 My soul is in deep anguish. How long, Lord, how long?4 Turn, Lord, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.5 Among the dead no-one proclaims your name. Who praises you from his grave?6 I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.7 My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes.8 Away from me, all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my weeping.9 The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer.10 All my enemies will be overwhelmed with shame and anguish; they will turn back and suddenly be put to shame.

Psalm 6

King James Version

1 To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David. O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.2 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.3 My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?4 Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies'sake.5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?6 I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.7 Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.9 The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.10 Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.

Psalm 6

New International Reader’s Version

1 LORD, don’t correct me when you are angry. Don’t punish me when you are very angry.2 LORD, have mercy on me. I’m so weak. LORD, heal me. My body is full of pain.3 My soul is very troubled. LORD, how long will it be until you save me?4 LORD, turn to me and help me. Save me. Your love never fails.5 Dead people can’t call out your name. How can they praise you when they are in the grave?6 My groaning has worn me out. All night long my tears flood my bed. My bed is wet because of my crying.7 I’m so sad I can’t see very well. My eyesight gets worse because of all my enemies.8 Get away from me, all you who do evil. The LORD has heard my weeping.9 The LORD has heard my cry for his mercy. The LORD accepts my prayer.10 All my enemies will be covered with shame and trouble. They will turn back in shame. It will happen suddenly.
