Psalm 132

English Standard Version

from Crossway
1 A Song of Ascents. Remember, O Lord, in David’s favor, all the hardships he endured, (1Ch 22:14; Ps 120:1)2 how he swore to the Lord and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob, (Ge 49:24; Ps 50:14; Ps 132:5; Isa 49:26; Isa 60:16)3 “I will not enter my house or get into my bed,4 I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, (Pr 6:4)5 until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” (1Ch 22:7; Ps 132:2; Ac 7:46)6 Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. (Ge 35:19; 1Sa 7:1; 1Sa 17:12)7 “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool!” (Ps 5:7; Ps 99:5)8 Arise, O Lord, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. (2Ch 6:41; Ps 68:1; Ps 78:61; Ps 132:14)9 Let your priests be clothed with righteousness, and let your saints shout for joy. (Job 29:14; Ps 132:16; Ps 149:5)10 For the sake of your servant David, do not turn away the face of your anointed one. (1Ki 1:39; 2Ki 18:24; Ps 132:17)11 The Lord swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back: “One of the sons of your body[1] I will set on your throne. (2Sa 7:12; 2Ch 6:16; Ps 89:3; Ps 89:34; Ps 110:4; Lu 1:32; Ac 2:30)12 If your sons keep my covenant and my testimonies that I shall teach them, their sons also forever shall sit on your throne.” (1Ki 8:25; Job 36:7)13 For the Lord has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place: (Ps 68:16; Ps 78:68; Ps 135:21)14 “This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it. (Ps 132:8; Mt 23:21)15 I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread. (Ru 1:6; Ps 147:14)16 Her priests I will clothe with salvation, and her saints will shout for joy. (Ps 132:9)17 There I will make a horn to sprout for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. (1Ki 11:36; 1Ki 15:4; 2Ki 8:19; 2Ch 21:7; Ps 132:10; Eze 29:21; Lu 1:69)18 His enemies I will clothe with shame, but on him his crown will shine.” (Job 8:22)

Psalm 132

New International Version

from Biblica
1 Lord, remember David and all his self-denial.2 He swore an oath to the Lord, he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:3 ‘I will not enter my house or go to my bed,4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids,5 till I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.’6 We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar:[1] (1Ch 13:5; 1Ch 13:6)7 ‘Let us go to his dwelling-place, let us worship at his footstool, saying,8 “Arise, Lord, and come to your resting-place, you and the ark of your might.9 May your priests be clothed with your righteousness; may your faithful people sing for joy.” ’10 For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one.11 The Lord swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke: ‘One of your own descendants I will place on your throne.12 If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons shall sit on your throne for ever and ever.’13 For the Lord has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying,14 ‘This is my resting-place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it.15 I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food.16 I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people shall ever sing for joy.17 ‘Here I will make a horn[2] grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one.18 I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his head shall be adorned with a radiant crown.’

Psalm 132

King James Version

1 A Song of degrees. LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions:2 How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;3 Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;4 I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,5 Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.6 Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.7 We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool.8 Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.9 Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.10 For thy servant David' sake turn not away the face of thine anointed.11 The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.12 If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.13 For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.14 This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.15 I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.17 There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.18 His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.

Psalm 132

New International Reader’s Version

from Biblica
1 LORD, remember David and all the times he didn’t do what he wanted.2 LORD, he made a promise. Mighty One of Jacob, he made a promise to you.3 He said, ‘I won’t enter my house or go to bed.4 I won’t let my eyes sleep. I won’t close my eyelids5 until I find a place for the LORD. I want to build a house for the Mighty One of Jacob.’6 Here are the words we heard in Ephrathah. We heard them again in the fields of Kiriath Jearim.7 ‘Let us go to the LORD’s house. Let us worship at his feet. Let us say,8 “LORD, rise up and come to your resting place. Come in together with the ark. It’s the sign of your power.9 May your priests put on godliness as if it were their clothes. May your faithful people sing for joy.” ’10 In honour of your servant David, don’t turn your back on your anointed king.11 The LORD made a promise to David. It is a firm promise that he will never break. He said, ‘After you die, I will place one of your own sons on your throne.12 If your sons keep my covenant and the laws I teach them, then their sons shall sit on your throne for ever and ever.’13 The LORD has chosen Zion. That’s the place where he wants to live.14 He has said, ‘This will be my resting place for ever and ever. Here I will sit on my throne, because that’s what I want.15 I will greatly bless Zion with everything it needs. I will give plenty of food to the poor people living there.16 I will put salvation on its priests as if it were their clothes. God’s faithful people will always sing for joy.17 ‘Here in Jerusalem I will raise up a mighty king from the family of David. I will set up the lamp of David’s kingdom for my anointed king. Its flame will burn brightly for ever.18 I will put shame on his enemies as if it were their clothes. But he will wear on his head a shining crown.’
