Leviticus 23

1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, These are the appointed feasts of the Lord that you shall proclaim as holy convocations; they are my appointed feasts. (Ex 12:16; Ex 23:14; Le 23:4; Le 23:37; Nu 10:10; Nu 29:39; Ps 81:3; Joe 2:15) 



3 “Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work. It is a Sabbath to the Lord in all your dwelling places. (Ex 20:8; Ex 23:12; Ex 31:15; Ex 34:21; Le 19:3; De 5:12; Lu 13:14) 



4 “These are the appointed feasts of the Lord, the holy convocations, which you shall proclaim at the time appointed for them. (Ex 12:16; Le 23:2) 5 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight,[1] is the Lord’s Passover. (Ex 12:2; Ex 13:3; Ex 13:10; Ex 23:15; Ex 34:18; Nu 9:2; Nu 9:10; Nu 28:16; De 16:1; Jos 5:10; 2Ki 23:21; 2Ch 30:2; 2Ch 30:13; 2Ch 30:15; Ezr 6:19) 6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the Lord; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. 7 On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall not do any ordinary work. (Ex 12:16; Nu 28:18; Nu 28:25) 8 But you shall present a food offering to the Lord for seven days. On the seventh day is a holy convocation; you shall not do any ordinary work.” 



9 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 10 “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When you come into the land that I give you and reap its harvest, you shall bring the sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest, (Ex 23:19; Ex 34:26; Le 23:17; Nu 15:18; Nu 28:26; De 26:1) 11 and he shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, so that you may be accepted. On the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it. (Ex 29:24; Le 23:15; Le 23:20) 12 And on the day when you wave the sheaf, you shall offer a male lamb a year old without blemish as a burnt offering to the Lord. (Le 1:10; Le 23:11) 13 And the grain offering with it shall be two tenths of an ephah[2] of fine flour mixed with oil, a food offering to the Lord with a pleasing aroma, and the drink offering with it shall be of wine, a fourth of a hin.[3] (Ex 29:40; Le 2:14) 14 And you shall eat neither bread nor grain parched or fresh until this same day, until you have brought the offering of your God: it is a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. (Le 2:14) 



15 “You shall count seven full weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering. (Ex 34:22; Le 23:11; De 16:9) 16 You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath. Then you shall present a grain offering of new grain to the Lord. (Nu 28:26; Ac 2:1) 17 You shall bring from your dwelling places two loaves of bread to be waved, made of two tenths of an ephah. They shall be of fine flour, and they shall be baked with leaven, as firstfruits to the Lord. (Le 23:10) 18 And you shall present with the bread seven lambs a year old without blemish, and one bull from the herd and two rams. They shall be a burnt offering to the Lord, with their grain offering and their drink offerings, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 19 And you shall offer one male goat for a sin offering, and two male lambs a year old as a sacrifice of peace offerings. (Le 3:1; Le 4:23; Le 4:28; Nu 28:30) 20 And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits as a wave offering before the Lord, with the two lambs. They shall be holy to the Lord for the priest. (Le 23:11; Nu 18:12; De 18:4) 21 And you shall make a proclamation on the same day. You shall hold a holy convocation. You shall not do any ordinary work. It is a statute forever in all your dwelling places throughout your generations. 22 “And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, nor shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the Lord your God.” (Le 19:9; De 24:19; Ru 2:2) 



23 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a memorial proclaimed with blast of trumpets, a holy convocation. (Le 25:9; Nu 29:1) 25 You shall not do any ordinary work, and you shall present a food offering to the Lord.” 



26 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 27 “Now on the tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. It shall be for you a time of holy convocation, and you shall afflict yourselves[4] and present a food offering to the Lord. (Le 16:29; Nu 29:7) 28 And you shall not do any work on that very day, for it is a Day of Atonement, to make atonement for you before the Lord your God. 29 For whoever is not afflicted[5] on that very day shall be cut off from his people. (Ex 30:33) 30 And whoever does any work on that very day, that person I will destroy from among his people. 31 You shall not do any work. It is a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwelling places. 32 It shall be to you a Sabbath of solemn rest, and you shall afflict yourselves. On the ninth day of the month beginning at evening, from evening to evening shall you keep your Sabbath.” 



33 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 34 “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, On the fifteenth day of this seventh month and for seven days is the Feast of Booths[6] to the Lord. (Nu 29:12; De 16:13; Ezr 3:4; Ne 8:14; Eze 45:25; Ho 12:9; Zec 14:16; Joh 7:2) 35 On the first day shall be a holy convocation; you shall not do any ordinary work. 36 For seven days you shall present food offerings to the Lord. On the eighth day you shall hold a holy convocation and present a food offering to the Lord. It is a solemn assembly; you shall not do any ordinary work. (Nu 29:35; De 16:8; 2Ki 10:20; 2Ch 7:9; Ne 8:18; Isa 1:13; Joe 1:14; Joe 2:15; Am 5:21; Joh 7:37) 37 “These are the appointed feasts of the Lord, which you shall proclaim as times of holy convocation, for presenting to the Lord food offerings, burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings, each on its proper day, (Le 23:2; Le 23:4) 38 besides the Lord’s Sabbaths and besides your gifts and besides all your vow offerings and besides all your freewill offerings, which you give to the Lord. (Nu 29:39) 39 “On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the produce of the land, you shall celebrate the feast of the Lord seven days. On the first day shall be a solemn rest, and on the eighth day shall be a solemn rest. (Ex 23:16; De 16:13) 40 And you shall take on the first day the fruit of splendid trees, branches of palm trees and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days. (De 16:14; Ne 8:14) 41 You shall celebrate it as a feast to the Lord for seven days in the year. It is a statute forever throughout your generations; you shall celebrate it in the seventh month. (Nu 29:12) 42 You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All native Israelites shall dwell in booths, (Ne 8:14) 43 that your generations may know that I made the people of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.” (De 31:10) 44 Thus Moses declared to the people of Israel the appointed feasts of the Lord. New International Version



1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 ‘Speak to the Israelites and say to them: “These are my appointed festivals, the appointed festivals of the Lord, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies. 3 ‘ “There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a sabbath to the Lord. 



4 ‘ “These are the Lord’s appointed festivals, the sacred assemblies you are to proclaim at their appointed times: 5 the Lord’s Passover begins at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. 6 On the fifteenth day of that month the Lord’s Festival of Unleavened Bread begins; for seven days you must eat bread made without yeast. 7 On the first day hold a sacred assembly and do not do any of your ordinary work. 8 For seven days present a food offering to the Lord. And on the seventh day hold a sacred assembly and do not do any of your ordinary work.” ’ 



9 The Lord said to Moses, 10 ‘Speak to the Israelites and say to them: “When you enter the land I am going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest. 11 He is to wave the sheaf before the Lord so it will be accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath. 12 On the day you wave the sheaf, you must sacrifice as a burnt offering to the Lord a lamb a year old without defect, 13 together with its grain offering of one-fifth of an ephah[1] of the finest flour mixed with olive oil – a food offering presented to the Lord, a pleasing aroma – and its drink offering of a quarter of a hin[2] of wine. 14 You must not eat any bread, or roasted or new grain, until the very day you bring this offering to your God. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live. 



15 ‘ “From the day after the Sabbath, the day you brought the sheaf of the wave offering, count seven full weeks. 16 Count fifty days up to the day after the seventh Sabbath, and then present an offering of new grain to the Lord. 17 From wherever you live, bring two loaves made of one-fifth of an ephah of the finest flour, baked with yeast, as a wave offering of firstfruits to the Lord. 18 Present with this bread seven male lambs, each a year old and without defect, one young bull and two rams. They will be a burnt offering to the Lord, together with their grain offerings and drink offerings – a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord. 19 Then sacrifice one male goat for a sin offering[3] and two lambs, each a year old, for a fellowship offering. 20 The priest is to wave the two lambs before the Lord as a wave offering, together with the bread of the firstfruits. They are a sacred offering to the Lord for the priest. 21 On that same day you are to proclaim a sacred assembly and not do any ordinary work. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live. 22 ‘ “When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the Lord your God.” ’ 



23 The Lord said to Moses, 24 ‘Say to the Israelites: “On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of sabbath rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts. 25 Do not do any of your ordinary work, but present a food offering to the Lord.” ’ 



26 The Lord said to Moses, 27 ‘The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. Hold a sacred assembly and deny yourselves,[4] and present a food offering to the Lord. 28 Do not do any work on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement, when atonement is made for you before the Lord your God. 29 Those who do not deny themselves on that day must be cut off from their people. 30 I will destroy from among their people anyone who does any work on that day. 31 You shall do no work at all. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live. 32 It is a day of sabbath rest for you, and you must deny yourselves. From the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening you are to observe your sabbath.’ 



33 The Lord said to Moses, 34 ‘Say to the Israelites: “On the fifteenth day of the seventh month the Lord’s Festival of Tabernacles begins, and it lasts for seven days. 35 The first day is a sacred assembly; do not do any of your ordinary work. 36 For seven days present food offerings to the Lord, and on the eighth day hold a sacred assembly and present a food offering to the Lord. It is the closing special assembly; do not do any of your ordinary work. 37 (‘ “These are the Lord’s appointed festivals, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies for bringing food offerings to the Lord – the burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings required for each day. 38 These offerings are in addition to those for the Lord’s Sabbaths and[5] in addition to your gifts and whatever you have vowed and all the freewill offerings you give to the Lord.) 39 ‘ “So beginning with the fifteenth day of the seventh month, after you have gathered the crops of the land, celebrate the festival to the Lord for seven days; the first day is a day of sabbath rest, and the eighth day also is a day of sabbath rest. 40 On the first day you are to take branches from luxuriant trees – from palms, willows and other leafy trees – and rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days. 41 Celebrate this as a festival to the Lord for seven days each year. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come; celebrate it in the seventh month. 42 Live in temporary shelters for seven days: all native-born Israelites are to live in such shelters 43 so that your descendants will know that I made the Israelites live in temporary shelters when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.” ’ 44 So Moses announced to the Israelites the appointed festivals of the Lord.

seven sabbaths shall be complete: 16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD. 17 Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days. 41 And ye shall keep it a feast unto the LORD seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month. 42 Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths: 43 That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. 44 And Moses declared unto the children of Israel the feasts of the LORD.

Tell the people that they must come together for these sacred assemblies. 3 ‘ “There are six days when you can work. But the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest. You must rest on it. Come together on that sacred day. You must not do any work on it. No matter where you live, it is a Sabbath day to honour the LORD. 



4 ‘ “Here are the LORD’s appointed feasts. Tell the people that they must come together for these sacred gatherings at their appointed times. 5 The LORD’s Passover begins when the sun goes down on the 14th day of the first month. 6 The LORD’s Feast of Unleavened Bread begins on the 15th day of that month. For seven days you must eat bread made without yeast. 7 On the first day you must come together for a special service. Do not do any regular work on that day. 8 On each of the seven days bring a food offering to the LORD. On the seventh day come together for a special service. Do not do any regular work on that day.” ’ 



9 The LORD said to Moses, 10 ‘Speak to the Israelites. Tell them, “When you enter the land I am going to give you, bring an offering to the LORD. Gather your crops. Bring the first bundle of corn to the priest. 11 He must lift up the corn and wave it in front of the LORD. Then the LORD will accept it from you. The priest must wave it on the day after the Sabbath. 12 On the day he waves the corn for you, you must sacrifice a burnt offering to me. It must be a lamb that does not have any flaws. It must be a year old. 13 You must bring it together with its grain offering. The grain offering must be 3 kilograms of the finest flour. Mix it with olive oil. It is a food offering presented to the LORD. It has a pleasant smell. You must offer a drink offering along with the burnt offering. It must be a litre of wine. 14 You must not eat any bread until the day you bring your offering to the LORD your God. You must not eat any cooked corn or any of your first corn until that time. This is a law that will last for all time to come. It applies no matter where you live. 



15 ‘ “The day you brought the corn for the wave offering was the day after the Sabbath. Count seven full weeks from that day. 16 Count 50 days up to the day after the seventh Sabbath. On that day bring to the LORD an offering of your first corn. 17 Bring two loaves of bread that are made with 3 kilograms of the finest flour. They must be baked with yeast. Bring them to me as a wave offering from the first share of your crops. That applies no matter where you live. 18 Together with the bread, bring seven male lambs. Each lamb must be a year old. It must not have any flaws. Also bring one young bull and two rams. They will be a burnt offering to the LORD. They will be offered together with their grain offerings and drink offerings. They are food offerings. Their smell pleases the LORD. 19 Then sacrifice one male goat for a sin offering. Also sacrifice two lambs for a friendship offering. Each of the lambs must be a year old. 20 The priest must lift up the two lambs and wave them in front of me as a wave offering. He must offer them together with the bread made out of the first share of your crops. They are a sacred offering to the LORD. They will be given to the priest. 21 On that same day tell the people that they must come together for a special worship service. They must not do any regular work. That is a law that will last for all time to come. It applies no matter where you live. 22 ‘ “Suppose you are gathering your crops. Then do not harvest all the way to the edges of your field. And do not pick up the corn you missed. Leave some for the poor people and the outsiders who live among you. I am the LORD your God.” ’ 



23 The LORD said to Moses, 24 ‘Say to the Israelites, “On the first day of the seventh month you must have a day of sabbath rest. It must be a special service announced with trumpet blasts. 25 Do not do any regular work on that day. Instead, bring a food offering to the LORD.” ’ 



26 The LORD spoke to Moses. He said, 27 ‘The tenth day of the seventh month is the day when sin is paid for. Come together for a special service. Do not eat any food. Bring a food offering to the LORD. 28 Do not do any work on that day. It is the day when sin is paid for. On that day your sin will be paid for in my sight. I am the LORD your God. 29 Suppose you do eat food on that day. Then you will be separated from your people. 30 I will destroy anyone among your people who does any work on that day. 31 You must not do any work at all. This is a law that will last for all time to come. It applies no matter where you live. 32 That day is a day of sabbath rest for you. You must rest on it. You must not eat anything on that day. You must follow the rules of the sabbath rest. Follow them from the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening.’ 



33 The LORD said to Moses, 34 ‘Say to the Israelites, “On the 15th day of the seventh month the LORD’s Feast of Booths begins. It lasts for seven days. 35 On the first day you must come together for a special service. Do not do any regular work on that day. 36 On each of the seven days bring a food offering to the LORD. On the eighth day come together for a special service. Bring a food offering to the LORD. That special service is the closing service. Do not do any regular work on that day. 37 ‘ “These are the LORD’s appointed feasts. Tell the people that they must come together for these sacred assemblies. During those times, the people must bring food offerings to the LORD. They are burnt offerings and grain offerings. They are sacrifices and drink offerings. Each offering must be brought at its required time. 38 The offerings are in addition to those of the days of sabbath rest. The offerings are also in addition to your gifts and anything you have promised. They are also in addition to all the offerings you choose to give to the LORD. 39 ‘ “Begin with the 15th day of the seventh month. That is after you have gathered your crops. On that day celebrate the LORD’s Feast of Booths for seven days. The first day is a day of rest. The eighth day is also a day of rest. 40 On the first day you must get branches from palms, willows and other leafy trees. You must be filled with joy in front of the LORD your God for seven days. 41 Celebrate the LORD’s Feast of Booths for seven days each year. This is a law that will last for all time to come. Celebrate the feast in the seventh month. 42 Live in booths for seven days. All the Israelites must live in booths. 43 Then your children after you will know that I made the Israelites live in booths. I made them do it after I brought them out of Egypt.
