2 Chronicles 3

English Standard Version

1 Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord[1] had appeared to David his father, at the place that David had appointed, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. (Ge 22:2; Ge 22:14; 1Ki 6:1; 1Ch 21:15; 1Ch 21:18; 1Ch 21:28)2 He began to build in the second month of the fourth year of his reign.3 These are Solomon’s measurements[2] for building the house of God: the length, in cubits[3] of the old standard, was sixty cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits. (1Ki 6:2; Ezr 3:11)4 The vestibule in front of the nave of the house was twenty cubits long, equal to the width of the house,[4] and its height was 120 cubits. He overlaid it on the inside with pure gold.5 The nave he lined with cypress and covered it with fine gold and made palms and chains on it. (1Ki 6:17; 1Ki 6:29; 1Ki 6:32)6 He adorned the house with settings of precious stones. The gold was gold of Parvaim.7 So he lined the house with gold—its beams, its thresholds, its walls, and its doors—and he carved cherubim on the walls. (2Ch 3:5)8 And he made the Most Holy Place. Its length, corresponding to the breadth of the house, was twenty cubits, and its breadth was twenty cubits. He overlaid it with 600 talents[5] of fine gold. (1Ki 6:16)9 The weight of gold for the nails was fifty shekels.[6] And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold. (1Ch 28:11)10 In the Most Holy Place he made two cherubim of wood[7] and overlaid[8] them with gold. (1Ki 6:23)11 The wings of the cherubim together extended twenty cubits: one wing of the one, of five cubits, touched the wall of the house, and its other wing, of five cubits, touched the wing of the other cherub;12 and of this cherub, one wing, of five cubits, touched the wall of the house, and the other wing, also of five cubits, was joined to the wing of the first cherub.13 The wings of these cherubim extended twenty cubits. The cherubim[9] stood on their feet, facing the nave. (Eze 40:9)14 And he made the veil of blue and purple and crimson fabrics and fine linen, and he worked cherubim on it. (Ex 26:31)15 In front of the house he made two pillars thirty-five cubits high, with a capital of five cubits on the top of each. (1Ki 7:15; 2Ki 25:17; Jer 52:21)16 He made chains like a necklace[10] and put them on the tops of the pillars, and he made a hundred pomegranates and put them on the chains.17 He set up the pillars in front of the temple, one on the south, the other on the north; that on the south he called Jachin, and that on the north Boaz. (1Ki 7:21)

2 Chronicles 3

New International Version

1 Then Solomon began to build the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David. It was on the threshing-floor of Araunah[1] the Jebusite, the place provided by David.2 He began building on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign.3 The foundation Solomon laid for building the temple of God was sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide[2] (using the cubit of the old standard).4 The portico at the front of the temple was twenty cubits[3] long across the width of the building and twenty[4] cubits high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold.5 He panelled the main hall with juniper and covered it with fine gold and decorated it with palm tree and chain designs.6 He adorned the temple with precious stones. And the gold he used was gold of Parvaim.7 He overlaid the ceiling beams, door-frames, walls and doors of the temple with gold, and he carved cherubim on the walls.8 He built the Most Holy Place, its length corresponding to the width of the temple – twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide. He overlaid the inside with six hundred talents[5] of fine gold.9 The gold nails weighed fifty shekels.[6] He also overlaid the upper parts with gold.10 For the Most Holy Place he made a pair of sculptured cherubim and overlaid them with gold.11 The total wingspan of the cherubim was twenty cubits. One wing of the first cherub was five cubits[7] long and touched the temple wall, while its other wing, also five cubits long, touched the wing of the other cherub.12 Similarly one wing of the second cherub was five cubits long and touched the other temple wall, and its other wing, also five cubits long, touched the wing of the first cherub.13 The wings of these cherubim extended twenty cubits. They stood on their feet, facing the main hall.[8]14 He made the curtain of blue, purple and crimson yarn and fine linen, with cherubim worked into it.15 For the front of the temple he made two pillars, which together were thirty-five cubits[9] long, each with a capital five cubits high.16 He made interwoven chains[10] and put them on top of the pillars. He also made a hundred pomegranates and attached them to the chains.17 He erected the pillars in the front of the temple, one to the south and one to the north. The one to the south he named Jakin[11] and the one to the north Boaz.[12]

2 Chronicles 3

King James Version

1 Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where the LORD appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.2 And he began to build in the second day of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.3 Now these are the things wherein Solomon was instructed for the building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was threescore cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits.4 And the porch that was in the front of the house , the length of it was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the height was an hundred and twenty: and he overlaid it within with pure gold.5 And the greater house he cieled with fir tree, which he overlaid with fine gold, and set thereon palm trees and chains.6 And he garnished the house with precious stones for beauty: and the gold was gold of Parvaim.7 He overlaid also the house, the beams, the posts, and the walls thereof, and the doors thereof, with gold; and graved cherubims on the walls.8 And he made the most holy house, the length whereof was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits: and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents.9 And the weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold.10 And in the most holy house he made two cherubims of image work, and overlaid them with gold.11 And the wings of the cherubims were twenty cubits long: one wing of the one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub.12 And one wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was five cubits also , joining to the wing of the other cherub.13 The wings of these cherubims spread themselves forth twenty cubits: and they stood on their feet, and their faces were inward.14 And he made the vail of blue, and purple, and crimson, and fine linen, and wrought cherubims thereon.15 Also he made before the house two pillars of thirty and five cubits high, and the chapiter that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.16 And he made chains, as in the oracle, and put them on the heads of the pillars; and made an hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains.17 And he reared up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand Jachin, and the name of that on the left Boaz.

2 Chronicles 3

New International Reader’s Version

1 Then Solomon began to build the temple of the LORD. He built it on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem. That’s where the LORD had appeared to Solomon’s father David. The LORD had appeared at the threshing-floor of Araunah. Araunah was from Jebus. David had provided the threshing-floor.2 Solomon began building the temple on the second day of the second month. It was in the fourth year of his rule.3 Solomon laid the foundation for God’s temple. It was 30 metres long and 10 metres wide. Solomon’s men followed the standard measure used at that time.4 The porch in front of the temple was 10 metres across and 10 metres high. Solomon covered the inside of the temple with pure gold.5 He covered the inside of the main hall with juniper boards. Then he covered the boards with fine gold. He decorated the hall with palm tree patterns and chain patterns.6 He decorated the temple with valuable jewels. The gold he used came from Parvaim.7 He covered the ceiling beams, doorframes, walls and doors of the temple with gold. He carved cherubim on the walls.8 He built the Most Holy Room. It was as long as the temple was wide. It was 10 metres long and 10 metres wide. He covered the inside of the Most Holy Room with 21 tonnes of fine gold.9 He also covered the upper parts with gold. The gold on the nails weighed 600 grams.10 For the Most Holy Room, Solomon made a pair of carved cherubim. He covered them with gold.11 The total length of the cherubim’s wings from tip to tip was 10 metres. One wing of the first cherub was 2.5 metres long. Its tip touched the temple wall. The other wing was also 2.5 metres long. Its tip touched the wing tip of the other cherub.12 In the same way one wing of the second cherub was 2.5 metres long. Its tip touched the other temple wall. The other wing was also 2.5 metres long. Its tip touched the wing tip of the first cherub.13 So the total length of the wings of the two cherubim was 10 metres from tip to tip. The cherubim stood facing the main hall.14 Solomon made the curtain out of blue, purple and bright red yarn and fine linen. A skilled worker sewed cherubim into its pattern.15 For the front of the temple, Solomon made two pillars. Each pillar was 17.5 metres tall. Each had a decorated top 2.5 metres high.16 Solomon made chains that were linked together. He put them on top of the pillars. He also made 100 pomegranates. He fastened them to the chains.17 Solomon set the pillars up in front of the temple. One was on the south. The other was on the north. He named the one on the south Jakin. The one on the north he named Boaz.
