1When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. The Faith of a Centurion
5When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, (Lu 7:1)6“Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.”7And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.”8But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. (Ps 107:20; Mt 8:16)9For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant,[3] ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”10When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel[4] have I found such faith. (Mt 9:2; Mr 6:6)11I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, (Isa 59:19; Mal 1:11; Lu 13:29; Eph 3:6)12while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Mt 13:42; Mt 13:50; Mt 19:30; Mt 21:41; Mt 21:43; Mt 22:13; Mt 24:51; Mt 25:30; Lu 13:28)13And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment. Jesus Heals Many
14And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. (Mr 1:29; Lu 4:38; 1Co 9:5)15He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him. (Mt 9:25)16That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. (Mt 4:24; Mt 8:8; Mt 8:28; Mt 8:33)17This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.” (Isa 53:4; Mt 1:22)
The Cost of Following Jesus
18Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. (Mt 14:22; Mr 4:35; Lu 8:22; Joh 6:15)19And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” (Lu 9:57)20And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”21Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”22And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” (Joh 5:25)
Jesus Calms a Storm
23And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. (Mr 4:36; Lu 8:22; Joh 6:16)24And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. (Joh 4:6)25And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” (Mt 14:30)26And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. (Job 38:11; Ps 65:7; Ps 104:6; Mt 6:30; Mt 14:32; Lu 4:39; Joh 14:27)27And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?” (Mr 1:27; Lu 5:9)
Jesus Heals Two Men with Demons
28And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes,[5] two demon-possessed[6] men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. (Mt 8:16; Mr 5:1; Lu 8:26; Re 18:2)29And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?” (Mt 4:3; Mt 4:6; Mt 14:33; Mr 1:23; Mr 1:26; Lu 4:34; Ac 8:7; Re 12:12)30Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them.31And the demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.”32And he said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters.33The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, especially what had happened to the demon-possessed men. (Mt 8:16)34And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region. (1Ki 17:18; Lu 5:8; Ac 16:39)

Der Hauptmann von Kapernaum
5Als aber Jesus nach Kapernaum hineinging, trat ein Hauptmann zu ihm; der bat ihn (Lu 7:1; Joh 4:46)6und sprach: Herr, mein Knecht[1] liegt zu Hause und ist gelähmt und leidet große Qualen.7Jesus sprach zu ihm: Ich will kommen und ihn gesund machen.[2]8Der Hauptmann antwortete und sprach: Herr, ich bin nicht wert, dass du unter mein Dach gehst, sondern sprich nur ein Wort, so wird mein Knecht gesund.9Denn auch ich bin ein Mensch, der einer Obrigkeit untersteht, und habe Soldaten unter mir; und wenn ich zu einem sage: Geh hin!, so geht er; und zu einem andern: Komm her!, so kommt er; und zu meinem Knecht: Tu das!, so tut er’s.10Als das Jesus hörte, wunderte er sich und sprach zu denen, die ihm nachfolgten: Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Solchen Glauben habe ich in Israel bei keinem gefunden! (Mr 6:6; Lu 18:8)11Aber ich sage euch: Viele werden kommen von Osten und von Westen und mit Abraham und Isaak und Jakob im Himmelreich zu Tisch sitzen; (Lu 13:28)12aber die Kinder des Reichs werden hinausgestoßen in die äußerste Finsternis; da wird sein Heulen und Zähneklappern. (Mt 13:42; Mt 13:50; Mt 22:13; Mt 24:51; Mt 25:30)13Und Jesus sprach zu dem Hauptmann: Geh hin; dir geschehe, wie du geglaubt hast. Und sein Knecht wurde gesund zu derselben Stunde. (Mt 9:22; Mt 9:29; Mt 15:28; Lu 7:50)
Jesus im Haus des Petrus
14Und Jesus kam in das Haus des Petrus und sah, dass dessen Schwiegermutter zu Bett lag und hatte das Fieber. (Mr 1:29; Lu 4:38; 1Co 9:5)15Da berührte er ihre Hand und das Fieber verließ sie. Und sie stand auf und diente ihm.16Am Abend aber brachten sie viele Besessene zu ihm; und er trieb die Geister aus durch sein Wort und machte alle Kranken gesund,17auf dass erfüllt würde, was gesagt ist durch den Propheten Jesaja, der da spricht: »Er hat unsre Schwachheit auf sich genommen, und unsre Krankheiten hat er getragen.«
Vom Ernst der Nachfolge
18Als aber Jesus die Menge um sich sah, befahl er, hinüber ans andre Ufer zu fahren. (Lu 9:57)19Und es trat ein Schriftgelehrter herzu und sprach zu ihm: Meister, ich will dir folgen, wohin du gehst.20Jesus sagt zu ihm: Die Füchse haben Gruben und die Vögel unter dem Himmel haben Nester; aber der Menschensohn hat nichts, wo er sein Haupt hinlege. (2Co 8:9)21Ein anderer aber, einer seiner Jünger, sprach zu ihm: Herr, erlaube mir, dass ich zuvor hingehe und meinen Vater begrabe. (Mt 10:37)22Aber Jesus spricht zu ihm: Folge mir nach und lass die Toten ihre Toten begraben!
Die Stillung des Sturms
23Und er stieg in das Boot und seine Jünger folgten ihm. (Mr 4:35; Lu 8:22)24Und siehe, da geschah ein großes Beben im Meer, sodass das Boot von den Wellen bedeckt wurde. Er aber schlief. (Re 6:12)25Und sie traten zu ihm, weckten ihn auf und sprachen: Herr, hilf, wir verderben!26Da sagt er zu ihnen: Ihr Kleingläubigen, warum seid ihr so furchtsam?, und stand auf und bedrohte den Wind und das Meer; und es ward eine große Stille. (Ps 89:10; Mt 14:31; Ac 27:22)27Die Menschen aber verwunderten sich und sprachen: Was ist das für ein Mann, dass ihm Wind und Meer gehorsam sind?
Die Heilung von zwei besessenen Gadarenern
28Und er kam ans andre Ufer in die Gegend der Gadarener. Da liefen ihm entgegen zwei Besessene; die kamen aus den Grabhöhlen und waren sehr gefährlich, sodass niemand diese Straße gehen konnte. (Mr 5:1; Lu 8:26)29Und siehe, sie schrien: Was haben wir mit dir zu schaffen, du Sohn Gottes? Bist du hergekommen, uns zu quälen, ehe es Zeit ist? (Mr 1:24; Mr 3:11; Lu 4:41; Jas 2:19; 2Pe 2:4)30Es war aber fern von ihnen eine große Herde Säue auf der Weide.31Da baten ihn die Dämonen und sprachen: Willst du uns austreiben, so schick uns in die Herde Säue.32Und er sprach: Weg mit euch! Da fuhren sie aus und fuhren in die Säue. Und siehe, die ganze Herde stürmte den Abhang hinunter ins Meer, und sie ersoffen im Wasser.33Und die Hirten flohen und gingen hin in die Stadt und berichteten das alles und wie es den Besessenen ergangen war.34Und siehe, da ging die ganze Stadt hinaus Jesus entgegen. Und als sie ihn sahen, baten sie ihn, dass er ihr Gebiet verlasse.
