Elihu Rebukes Job

1 “But now, hear my speech, O Job, and listen to all my words. 2 Behold, I open my mouth; the tongue in my mouth speaks. (Job 3:1) 3 My words declare the uprightness of my heart, and what my lips know they speak sincerely. 4 The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. 5 Answer me, if you can; set your words in order before me; take your stand. (Job 13:18; Job 23:4; Job 33:32; Ps 5:3)

6 Behold, I am toward God as you are; I too was pinched off from a piece of clay. (Job 4:19) 7 Behold, no fear of me need terrify you; my pressure will not be heavy upon you. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds, (Nu 12:6; Job 4:13; Ps 17:3) 16 then he opens the ears of men and terrifies^[3] them with warnings, (Job 36:10; Job 36:15; Ps 40:6; Isa 50:5)

17 that he may turn man aside from his deed and conceal pride from a man; (Job 36:9) 18 he keeps back his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword. (Job 36:12) 19 “Man is also rebuked with pain on his bed and with continual strife in his bones, (Job 30:17) 20 so that his life loathes bread, and his appetite the choicest food. (Ps 107:18; Pr 23:3) 21 His flesh is so wasted away that it cannot be seen, and his bones that were not seen stick out. 24 and he is merciful to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down into the pit; I have found a ransom; (Job 36:18; Ps 49:7) 25 let his flesh become fresh with youth; let him return to the days of his youthful vigor’; (2Ki 5:14; Heb 9:12) 26 then man^[4] prays to God, and he accepts him; he sees his face with a shout of joy, and he restores to man his righteousness. 27 He sings before men and says: ‘I sinned and perverted what was right, and it was not repaid to me. (Ps 106:6; Ro 6:21) 28 He has redeemed my soul from going down into the pit, and my life shall look upon the light.’ (Job 3:9; Job 33:22; Job 33:24; Isa 38:17)

29 “Behold, God does all these things, twice, three times, with a man, (Job 33:14) 30 to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be lighted with the light of life. (Ps 56:13) 31 Pay attention, O Job, listen to me; be silent, and I will speak. 32 If you have any words, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify you. (Job 33:5; Job 34:33) 33 If not, listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.” (Ps 34:11)

1 Höre doch, Hiob, meine Rede und merke auf alle meine Worte! 2 Siehe, ich tue meinen Mund auf, und meine Zunge redet in meinem Munde. 3 Mein Herz spricht aufrichtige Worte, und meine Lippen reden lautere Erkenntnis. 4 Der Geist Gottes hat mich gemacht, und der Odem des Allmächtigen hat mir das Leben gegeben. 5 Kannst du, so antworte mir; rüste dich gegen mich und stelle dich. 6 Siehe, vor Gott bin ich wie du, und aus Lehm bin auch ich gemacht. (Job 10:9) 7 Siehe, du brauchst vor mir nicht zu erschrecken, und mein Drängen soll nicht auf dir lasten. 8 Du hast geredet vor meinen Ohren, den Ton deiner Reden höre ich noch: 9 »Ich bin rein, ohne Missetat, unschuldig und habe keine Sünde. (Job 16:17; Job 27:6; Job 31:1) 10 Siehe, Gott erfindet Vorwürfe wider mich, er betrachtet mich als seinen Feind; (Job 13:24; Job 19:11) 11 er hat meine Füße in den Block gelegt und hat acht auf alle meine Wege.« (Job 13:27) 12 Siehe, darin hast du nicht recht, muss ich dir antworten; denn Gott ist mehr als ein Mensch. 13 Warum willst du mit ihm hadern, weil er auf Menschenworte nicht Antwort gibt? 14 Denn auf eine Weise redet Gott und auf eine zweite; nur beachtet man’s nicht. 15 Im Traum, im Nachtgesicht, wenn der Schlaf auf die Menschen fällt, wenn sie schlafen auf dem Bett, (Job 4:12) 16 da öffnet er das Ohr der Menschen und schreckt sie auf und warnt sie, (Job 36:10) 17 damit er den Menschen von seinem Vorhaben abwende und von ihm die Hoffart tilge 18 und bewahre seine Seele vor dem Verderben und sein Leben vor des Todes Geschoss. 19 Auch warnt er ihn durch Schmerzen auf seinem Bett und durch heftigen Kampf in seinen Gliedern, 20 dieses Leben verleidet ihm das Brot, seiner Kehle die Lieblingsspeise. 21 Sein Fleisch schwindet dahin, dass man’s nicht ansehen kann, und seine Knochen stehen heraus, dass man lieber wegsieht; 22 so nähert er sich der Grube und sein Leben den Toten. 23 Kommt dann zu ihm ein Engel, ein Mittler, einer aus tausend, kundzutun dem Menschen, was für ihn recht ist, 24 so wird er ihm gnädig sein und sagen: »Erlöse ihn, dass er nicht hinunterfahre zu den Toten; denn ich habe ein Lösegeld gefunden. (Ps 49:8) 25 Sein Fleisch blühe wieder wie in der Jugend, und er soll wieder jung werden.« (Ps 103:5) 26 Er wird Gott bitten und der wird ihm Gnade erweisen und wird ihn sein Antlitz sehen lassen mit Freuden und wird dem Menschen seine Gerechtigkeit zurückgeben. 27 Er wird vor den Leuten lobsingen und sagen: »Ich hatte gesündigt und das Recht verkehrt, aber es ist mir nicht vergolten worden. 28 Gott hat mich erlöst, dass ich nicht hinfahre zu den Toten, sondern mein Leben das Licht sieht.« 29 Siehe, das alles tut Gott zwei- oder dreimal mit einem jeden, 30 dass er sein Leben zurückhole von den Toten und erleuchte ihn mit dem Licht der Lebendigen. (Ps 56:14; Ps 103:4; Ps 116:9) 31 Merk auf, Hiob, und höre mir zu und schweige, damit ich reden kann! 32 Hast du aber etwas zu sagen, so antworte mir. Sage an, ich will dir gern recht geben! 33 Hast du aber nichts, so höre mir zu und schweige; ich will dich Weisheit lehren.
