1One Sabbath, when he went to dine at the house of a ruler of the Pharisees, they were watching him carefully. (Mr 3:2; Lu 7:36; Lu 11:37; Lu 20:20)2And behold, there was a man before him who had dropsy.3And Jesus responded to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?” (Mt 12:10; Lu 7:30; Lu 13:14)4But they remained silent. Then he took him and healed him and sent him away.5And he said to them, “Which of you, having a son[1] or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?” (De 22:4; Mt 12:11; Lu 13:15)6And they could not reply to these things. The Parable of the Wedding Feast
7Now he told a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the places of honor, saying to them, (Lu 11:43)8“When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest someone more distinguished than you be invited by him,9and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this person,’ and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place.10But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you. (Pr 25:6)11For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Pr 29:23; Eze 21:26; Mt 18:4; Lu 18:14; Jas 4:6; Jas 4:10; 1Pe 5:5)
The Parable of the Great Banquet
12He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers[2] or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. (Lu 6:34; Joh 21:12)13But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, (Ne 8:10; Ne 8:12; Es 9:22; Lu 14:21)14and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.” (Joh 11:24; Ac 24:15; 1Co 15:23; 1Th 4:16; Re 20:4)15When one of those who reclined at table with him heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!” (Lu 13:29; Lu 22:16; Lu 22:30; Re 19:9)16But he said to him, “A man once gave a great banquet and invited many. (Isa 25:6; Mt 22:2)17And at the time for the banquet he sent his servant[3] to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ (Es 6:14; Pr 9:3; Pr 9:5)18But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. Please have me excused.’19And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them. Please have me excused.’20And another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ (De 24:5)21So the servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house became angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’ (Lu 14:13)22And the servant said, ‘Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’23And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.24For I tell you,[4] none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.’” (Mt 21:43; Ac 13:46)
The Cost of Discipleship
25Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them,26“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. (De 33:9; Mt 10:37; Lu 14:33; Lu 16:13; Joh 12:25; Ac 20:24; Re 12:11)27Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. (Mt 10:38; Mt 16:24; Mr 8:34; Lu 9:23; Joh 19:17)28For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? (Pr 24:27)29Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,30saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’31Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? (Lu 14:28)32And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace.33So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. (Lu 14:26; Lu 18:28; Php 3:7)
Salt Without Taste Is Worthless
34“Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? (Mt 5:13; Mr 9:50)35It is of no use either for the soil or for the manure pile. It is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” (Mt 11:15)

Von Rangordnung und Auswahl der Gäste
7Er sagte aber ein Gleichnis zu den Gästen, als er merkte, wie sie sich aussuchten, obenan zu sitzen, und sprach zu ihnen: (Mt 23:6; Lu 11:43)8Wenn du von jemandem zur Hochzeit geladen bist, so setze dich nicht obenan; denn es könnte einer eingeladen sein, der angesehener ist als du, (Pr 25:6)9und dann kommt der, der dich und ihn eingeladen hat, und sagt zu dir: Weiche diesem!, und du müsstest dann beschämt untenan sitzen.10Sondern wenn du eingeladen bist, so geh hin und setz dich untenan, damit, wenn der kommt, der dich eingeladen hat, er zu dir sagt: Freund, rücke hinauf! Dann wirst du Ehre haben vor allen, die mit dir zu Tisch sitzen.11Denn wer sich selbst erhöht, der soll erniedrigt werden; und wer sich selbst erniedrigt, der soll erhöht werden. (Job 22:29; Mt 23:12; Lu 18:14; Php 2:8; Jas 4:6; Jas 4:10)12Er sprach aber auch zu dem, der ihn eingeladen hatte: Wenn du ein Mittags- oder Abendmahl machst, so lade weder deine Freunde noch deine Brüder noch deine Verwandten noch reiche Nachbarn ein, damit sie dich nicht etwa wieder einladen und dir vergolten wird.13Sondern wenn du ein Mahl machst, so lade Arme, Verkrüppelte, Lahme und Blinde ein, (De 14:29)14dann wirst du selig sein, denn sie haben nichts, um es dir zu vergelten; es wird dir aber vergolten werden bei der Auferstehung der Gerechten. (Ac 24:15; 1Co 15:20; Wis 5:15)
Das große Abendmahl
15Da aber einer das hörte, der mit zu Tisch saß, sprach er zu Jesus: Selig ist, der das Brot isst im Reich Gottes! (Mt 22:1; Lu 13:29)16Er aber sprach zu ihm: Es war ein Mensch, der machte ein großes Abendmahl und lud viele dazu ein.17Und er sandte seinen Knecht aus zur Stunde des Abendmahls, den Geladenen zu sagen: Kommt, denn es ist schon bereit!18Da fingen sie alle an, sich zu entschuldigen. Der erste sprach zu ihm: Ich habe einen Acker gekauft und muss hinausgehen und ihn besehen; ich bitte dich, entschuldige mich.19Und ein andrer sprach: Ich habe fünf Joch Ochsen gekauft und ich gehe jetzt hin, sie zu besehen; ich bitte dich, entschuldige mich.20Wieder ein andrer sprach: Ich habe eine Frau geheiratet; darum kann ich nicht kommen. (De 24:5; 1Co 7:33)21Und der Knecht kam zurück und sagte das seinem Herrn. Da wurde der Hausherr zornig und sprach zu seinem Knecht: Geh schnell hinaus auf die Straßen und Gassen der Stadt und führe die Armen und Verkrüppelten und Blinden und Lahmen herein. (Lu 13:1)22Und der Knecht sprach: Herr, es ist geschehen, was du befohlen hast; es ist aber noch Raum da.23Und der Herr sprach zu dem Knecht: Geh hinaus auf die Landstraßen und an die Zäune und nötige sie hereinzukommen, dass mein Haus voll werde.24Denn ich sage euch: Keiner der Männer, die eingeladen waren, wird mein Abendmahl schmecken.
Von der Nachfolge
25Es ging aber eine große Menge mit ihm; und er wandte sich um und sprach zu ihnen:26Wenn jemand zu mir kommt und hasst nicht seinen Vater, Mutter, Frau, Kinder, Brüder, Schwestern, dazu auch sein eigenes Leben, der kann nicht mein Jünger sein. (Mt 10:37; Lu 18:29; 1Co 7:29)27Wer nicht sein Kreuz trägt und mir nachfolgt, der kann nicht mein Jünger sein. (Lu 9:23)28Denn wer ist unter euch, der einen Turm bauen will und setzt sich nicht zuvor hin und überschlägt die Kosten, ob er genug habe, um es zu Ende zu führen,29damit nicht, wenn er den Grund gelegt hat und kann’s nicht zu Ende bringen, alle, die es sehen, anfangen, über ihn zu spotten,30und sagen: Dieser Mensch hat angefangen zu bauen und kann’s nicht zu Ende bringen?31Oder welcher König zieht aus, um mit einem andern König Krieg zu führen, und setzt sich nicht zuvor hin und hält Rat, ob er mit zehntausend dem begegnen kann, der über ihn kommt mit zwanzigtausend?32Wenn nicht, so schickt er eine Gesandtschaft, solange jener noch fern ist, und bittet um Frieden.33So auch jeder unter euch: Wer sich nicht lossagt von allem, was er hat, der kann nicht mein Jünger sein. (Lu 9:62; Lu 18:22; Lu 18:28)34Das Salz ist etwas Gutes. Wenn aber das Salz nicht mehr salzt[1], womit soll man würzen? (Mt 5:13; Mr 9:50)35Es ist weder für den Acker noch für den Mist nütze; sondern man wirft es weg. Wer Ohren hat zu hören, der höre! (Lu 8:8)

Alors Jésus toucha le malade, le guérit et le renvoya.5Puis il leur dit: «Lequel de vous, si son fils ou son bœuf tombe dans un puits, ne l'en retire pas aussitôt, même le jour du sabbat?»6Et ils furent incapables de répondre à cela.7Il adressa ensuite une parabole aux invités, en voyant qu'ils choisissaient les meilleures places. Il leur dit:8«Lorsque tu es invité par quelqu'un à des noces, ne te mets pas à la meilleure place, de peur qu'il n'y ait parmi les invités une personne plus importante que toi9et que celui qui vous a invités l'un et l'autre ne vienne te dire: ‘Laisse-lui la place!’ Tu aurais alors la honte d'aller occuper la dernière place.10Mais lorsque tu es invité, va te mettre à la dernière place, afin qu'au moment où celui qui t'a invité arrive, il te dise: ‘Mon ami, monte plus haut.’ Alors tu seras honoré devant [tous] ceux qui seront à table avec toi.11En effet, toute personne qui s'élève sera abaissée, et celle qui s'abaisse sera élevée.»12Il dit aussi à celui qui l'avait invité: «Lorsque tu organises un dîner ou un souper, n'invite pas tes amis, ni tes frères, ni tes parents, ni des voisins riches, de peur qu'ils ne t'invitent à leur tour pour te rendre la pareille.13Lorsque tu organises un festin, invite au contraire des pauvres, des estropiés, des boiteux, des aveugles,14et tu seras heureux, car ils ne peuvent pas te rendre la pareille. En effet, cela te sera rendu à la résurrection des justes.»15Après avoir entendu ces paroles, un de ceux qui étaient à table dit à Jésus: «Heureux celui qui prendra son repas dans le royaume de Dieu!»16Jésus lui répondit: «Un homme organisa un grand festin et invita beaucoup de gens.17A l'heure du festin, il envoya son serviteur dire aux invités: ‘Venez, car tout est déjà prêt.’18Mais tous sans exception se mirent à s'excuser. Le premier lui dit: ‘J'ai acheté un champ et je suis obligé d'aller le voir, excuse-moi, je t'en prie.’19Un autre dit: ‘J'ai acheté cinq paires de bœufs et je vais les essayer, excuse-moi, je t'en prie.’20Un autre dit: ‘Je viens de me marier, c'est pourquoi je ne peux pas venir.’21A son retour, le serviteur rapporta ces paroles à son maître. Alors le maître de la maison, en colère, dit à son serviteur: ‘Va vite sur les places et dans les rues de la ville et amène ici les pauvres, les estropiés, les aveugles et les boiteux.’22Le serviteur dit: ‘Maître, ce que tu as ordonné a été fait et il reste encore de la place.’23Le maître dit alors au serviteur: ‘Va sur les chemins et le long des haies, et ceux que tu trouveras, oblige-les à entrer, afin que ma maison soit remplie.24En effet, je vous le dis, aucun de ces hommes qui avaient été invités ne goûtera de mon festin.’»
Conditions pour être disciple
25De grandes foules faisaient route avec Jésus. Il se retourna et leur dit:26«Si quelqu'un vient à moi sans me préférer à son père, sa mère, sa femme, ses enfants, ses frères et ses sœurs, et même à sa propre vie, il ne peut pas être mon disciple.27Celui qui ne porte pas sa croix et ne me suit pas ne peut pas être mon disciple.28En effet, si l'un de vous veut construire une tour, il s'assied d'abord pour calculer la dépense et voir s'il a de quoi la terminer.29Autrement, si après avoir posé les fondations il ne peut pas la terminer, tous ceux qui le verront se mettront à se moquer de lui30en disant: ‘Cet homme a commencé à construire, et il n'a pas pu finir.’31De même, si un roi part en guerre contre un autre roi, il s'assied d'abord pour examiner s'il peut, avec 10'000 hommes, affronter celui qui vient l'attaquer avec 20'000.32Si ce n'est pas le cas, alors que l'autre roi est encore loin, il lui envoie une ambassade pour demander la paix.33Ainsi donc aucun de vous, à moins de renoncer à tout ce qu'il possède, ne peut être mon disciple.34»Le sel est une bonne chose, mais si le sel perd sa saveur, avec quoi la lui rendra-t-on?35Il n'est bon ni pour la terre, ni pour le fumier; on le jette dehors. Que celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre entende.»
