1Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord in the presence of Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision. (1Sa 2:11; 1Sa 2:18; 1Sa 3:21; Ps 74:9; Am 8:11)2At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his own place. (Ge 27:1; Ge 48:10; De 34:7; 1Sa 4:15)3The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was. (Ex 27:20; Le 24:2; 1Sa 1:9; 2Ch 13:11)4Then the Lord called Samuel, and he said, “Here I am!”5and ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” So he went and lay down.6And the Lord called again, “Samuel!” and Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.”7Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.8And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy.9Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down, and if he calls you, you shall say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant hears.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.10And the Lord came and stood, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears.”11Then the Lord said to Samuel, “Behold, I am about to do a thing in Israel at which the two ears of everyone who hears it will tingle. (2Ki 21:12; Jer 19:3)12On that day I will fulfill against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end. (1Sa 2:30)13And I declare to him that I am about to punish his house forever, for the iniquity that he knew, because his sons were blaspheming God,[1] and he did not restrain them. (1Sa 2:12; 1Sa 2:17; 1Sa 2:22; 1Sa 2:23; 1Sa 3:12)14Therefore I swear to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever.” (Isa 22:14)15Samuel lay until morning; then he opened the doors of the house of the Lord. And Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli.16But Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son.” And he said, “Here I am.”17And Eli said, “What was it that he told you? Do not hide it from me. May God do so to you and more also if you hide anything from me of all that he told you.” (Ru 1:17)18So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, “It is the Lord. Let him do what seems good to him.” (2Sa 10:12; Job 1:21; Job 2:10; Ps 39:9; Isa 39:8)19And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground. (1Sa 2:21; 1Sa 9:6)20And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established as a prophet of the Lord. (2Sa 3:10)21And the Lord appeared again at Shiloh, for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the Lord. (Jos 18:1; 1Sa 3:1; 1Sa 3:4)

Er aber sprach: Ich habe nicht gerufen, mein Sohn; geh wieder hin und lege dich schlafen.7Aber Samuel kannte den HERRN noch nicht, und des HERRN Wort war ihm noch nicht offenbart.8Und der HERR rief Samuel wieder, zum dritten Mal. Und er stand auf und ging zu Eli und sprach: Siehe, hier bin ich! Du hast mich gerufen. Da merkte Eli, dass der HERR den Knaben rief.9Und Eli sprach zu Samuel: Geh wieder hin und lege dich schlafen; und wenn du gerufen wirst, so sprich: Rede, HERR, denn dein Knecht hört. Samuel ging hin und legte sich an seinen Ort.10Da kam der HERR und trat herzu und rief wie vorher: Samuel, Samuel! Und Samuel sprach: Rede, denn dein Knecht hört.11Und der HERR sprach zu Samuel: Siehe, ich werde etwas tun in Israel, dass jedem, der davon hört, beide Ohren gellen. (2Ki 21:12; Jer 19:3)12An dem Tage will ich über Eli kommen lassen, was ich gegen sein Haus geredet habe; ich will es anfangen und vollenden.13Denn ich hab’s ihm angesagt, dass ich sein Haus für immer richten will um der Schuld willen, dass er wusste, wie seine Söhne sich schändlich verhielten, und hat ihnen nicht gewehrt. (1Sa 2:27)14Darum habe ich dem Hause Eli geschworen, dass die Schuld des Hauses Eli niemals gesühnt werden solle, weder mit Schlachtopfern noch mit Speisopfern.15Und Samuel lag bis an den Morgen und tat dann die Türen auf am Hause des HERRN. Samuel aber fürchtete sich, Eli von der Erscheinung zu berichten.16Da rief ihn Eli und sprach: Samuel, mein Sohn! Er antwortete: Siehe, hier bin ich!17Er sprach: Was war das für ein Wort, das er dir gesagt hat? Verschweige mir nichts. Gott tue dir dies und das, wenn du mir etwas verschweigst von all dem, das er dir gesagt hat.18Da sagte ihm Samuel alles und verschwieg ihm nichts. Er aber sprach: Es ist der HERR; er tue, was ihm wohlgefällt. (2Sa 10:12; 2Sa 15:26)19Samuel aber wuchs heran, und der HERR war mit ihm und ließ keines von allen seinen Worten zur Erde fallen.20Und ganz Israel von Dan bis Beerscheba erkannte, dass Samuel damit betraut war, Prophet des HERRN zu sein.21Und der HERR erschien weiterhin zu Silo, denn der HERR offenbarte sich Samuel zu Silo durch das Wort des HERRN.

La parole de l'Eternel était rare à cette époque, les visions n'étaient pas fréquentes.2Un jour, Eli, dont la vue commençait à faiblir et qui ne pouvait plus bien voir, était couché à sa place habituelle.3La lampe de Dieu n'était pas encore éteinte et Samuel était couché dans le temple de l'Eternel, où se trouvait l'arche de Dieu.4Alors l'Eternel appela Samuel. Il répondit: «Me voici»,5courut vers Eli et dit: «Me voici, car tu m'as appelé.» Eli répondit: «Je n'ai pas appelé, retourne te coucher.» Et Samuel alla se coucher.6L'Eternel appela de nouveau Samuel. Samuel se leva, alla vers Eli et dit: «Me voici, car tu m'as appelé.» Eli répondit: «Je n'ai pas appelé, mon fils, retourne te coucher.»7Samuel ne connaissait pas encore l'Eternel, la parole de l'Eternel ne lui avait pas encore été révélée.8L'Eternel appela de nouveau Samuel, pour la troisième fois. Samuel se leva, alla vers Eli et dit: «Me voici, car tu m'as appelé.» Eli comprit alors que c'était l'Eternel qui appelait l'enfant,9et il dit à Samuel: «Va te coucher et, si l'on t'appelle, dis: ‘Parle, Eternel, car ton serviteur écoute.’» Et Samuel alla se coucher à sa place.10L'Eternel vint se tenir près de lui et appela comme les autres fois: «Samuel, Samuel!» Samuel répondit: «Parle, car ton serviteur écoute.»11Alors l'Eternel dit à Samuel: «Je vais faire en Israël une chose telle que toute personne qui l'apprendra en restera abasourdie.12Ce jour-là j'accomplirai vis-à-vis d'Eli tout ce que j'ai prononcé contre sa famille; je le commencerai et je le finirai.13Je le lui ai déclaré, je veux punir sa famille pour toujours. En effet, il avait connaissance du crime par lequel ses fils se sont maudits et il ne leur a pas fait de reproches.14C'est pourquoi je jure à la famille d'Eli que jamais son crime ne sera expié, ni par des sacrifices ni par des offrandes.»15Samuel resta couché jusqu'au matin, puis il ouvrit les portes de la maison de l'Eternel. Il avait peur de raconter la vision à Eli,16mais Eli l'appela et dit: «Samuel, mon fils!» Il répondit: «Me voici!»17Eli dit: «Quelle est la parole que l'Eternel t'a adressée? Ne m'en cache rien. Que Dieu te traite avec la plus grande sévérité, si tu me caches quoi que ce soit de tout ce qu'il t'a dit!»18Samuel lui raconta tout, sans rien lui cacher, et Eli dit: «C'est l'Eternel, qu'il fasse ce qui lui semblera bon!»19Samuel grandissait. L'Eternel était avec lui et ne laissa aucune de ses paroles rester sans effet.20Tout Israël, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beer-Shéba, reconnut que Samuel était établi prophète de l'Eternel.21L'Eternel continuait à apparaître à Silo; en effet l'Eternel se révélait à Samuel à Silo en lui adressant la parole.
