1Now Samuel died. And all Israel assembled and mourned for him, and they buried him in his house at Ramah. Then David rose and went down to the wilderness of Paran. (Ge 50:10; Nu 10:12; Nu 20:29; De 34:8; 1Sa 1:19; 1Sa 28:3; 1Ki 2:34)2And there was a man in Maon whose business was in Carmel. The man was very rich; he had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats. He was shearing his sheep in Carmel. (Ge 38:13; Jos 15:55; 1Sa 23:24; 2Sa 13:23)3Now the name of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail. The woman was discerning and beautiful, but the man was harsh and badly behaved; he was a Calebite. (1Sa 30:14)4David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep. (1Sa 25:2)5So David sent ten young men. And David said to the young men, “Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal and greet him in my name.6And thus you shall greet him: ‘Peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have. (1Ch 12:18; Mt 10:13; Lu 10:5)7I hear that you have shearers. Now your shepherds have been with us, and we did them no harm, and they missed nothing all the time they were in Carmel. (1Sa 25:15; 1Sa 25:21)8Ask your young men, and they will tell you. Therefore let my young men find favor in your eyes, for we come on a feast day. Please give whatever you have at hand to your servants and to your son David.’” (Es 8:17; Es 9:19; Es 9:22)9When David’s young men came, they said all this to Nabal in the name of David, and then they waited.10And Nabal answered David’s servants, “Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants these days who are breaking away from their masters. (Jud 9:28; Jud 12:4)11Shall I take my bread and my water and my meat that I have killed for my shearers and give it to men who come from I do not know where?” (Jud 8:6; 1Sa 22:2)12So David’s young men turned away and came back and told him all this.13And David said to his men, “Every man strap on his sword!” And every man of them strapped on his sword. David also strapped on his sword. And about four hundred men went up after David, while two hundred remained with the baggage. (1Sa 22:2; 1Sa 23:13; 1Sa 27:2; 1Sa 30:24)14But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal’s wife, “Behold, David sent messengers out of the wilderness to greet our master, and he railed at them.15Yet the men were very good to us, and we suffered no harm, and we did not miss anything when we were in the fields, as long as we went with them. (1Sa 25:7; 1Sa 25:21)16They were a wall to us both by night and by day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep. (Job 1:10)17Now therefore know this and consider what you should do, for harm is determined against our master and against all his house, and he is such a worthless man that one cannot speak to him.” (De 13:13; 1Sa 20:7)18Then Abigail made haste and took two hundred loaves and two skins of wine and five sheep already prepared and five seahs[1] of parched grain and a hundred clusters of raisins and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on donkeys.19And she said to her young men, “Go on before me; behold, I come after you.” But she did not tell her husband Nabal.20And as she rode on the donkey and came down under cover of the mountain, behold, David and his men came down toward her, and she met them.21Now David had said, “Surely in vain have I guarded all that this fellow has in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that belonged to him, and he has returned me evil for good. (1Sa 25:7; 1Sa 25:15; Ps 109:5; Pr 17:13)22God do so to the enemies of David[2] and more also, if by morning I leave so much as one male of all who belong to him.” (Ru 1:17)23When Abigail saw David, she hurried and got down from the donkey and fell before David on her face and bowed to the ground. (Ge 24:64; Jos 15:18; Jud 1:14; Ru 2:10; 1Sa 25:41)24She fell at his feet and said, “On me alone, my lord, be the guilt. Please let your servant speak in your ears, and hear the words of your servant. (2Sa 14:9)25Let not my lord regard this worthless fellow, Nabal, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal[3] is his name, and folly is with him. But I your servant did not see the young men of my lord, whom you sent. (1Sa 25:17)26Now then, my lord, as the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, because the Lord has restrained you from bloodguilt and from saving with your own hand, now then let your enemies and those who seek to do evil to my lord be as Nabal. (Ge 20:6; 1Sa 20:3; 2Sa 18:32; Ro 12:19; Heb 10:30)27And now let this present that your servant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who follow my lord. (Ge 33:11; 1Sa 30:26; 2Ki 5:15)28Please forgive the trespass of your servant. For the Lord will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord is fighting the battles of the Lord, and evil shall not be found in you so long as you live. (1Sa 2:35; 1Sa 18:17; 2Sa 7:11; 2Sa 7:27; 1Ki 9:5; 1Ki 11:38; 1Ch 17:10; 1Ch 17:25)29If men rise up to pursue you and to seek your life, the life of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living in the care of the Lord your God. And the lives of your enemies he shall sling out as from the hollow of a sling. (Jer 10:18)30And when the Lord has done to my lord according to all the good that he has spoken concerning you and has appointed you prince[4] over Israel,31my lord shall have no cause of grief or pangs of conscience for having shed blood without cause or for my lord working salvation himself. And when the Lord has dealt well with my lord, then remember your servant.” (1Sa 25:26)32And David said to Abigail, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me! (Ge 24:27; Ps 41:13; Ps 72:18; Lu 1:68)33Blessed be your discretion, and blessed be you, who have kept me this day from bloodguilt and from working salvation with my own hand! (1Sa 25:26)34For as surely as the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, who has restrained me from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, truly by morning there had not been left to Nabal so much as one male.” (Ru 3:13; 1Sa 25:26)35Then David received from her hand what she had brought him. And he said to her, “Go up in peace to your house. See, I have obeyed your voice, and I have granted your petition.” (1Sa 1:17)36And Abigail came to Nabal, and behold, he was holding a feast in his house, like the feast of a king. And Nabal’s heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk. So she told him nothing at all until the morning light. (1Sa 22:15; 2Sa 13:23; 2Sa 13:28; 1Ki 21:7)37In the morning, when the wine had gone out of Nabal, his wife told him these things, and his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.38And about ten days later the Lord struck Nabal, and he died. (1Sa 26:10)39When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Blessed be the Lord who has avenged the insult I received at the hand of Nabal, and has kept back his servant from wrongdoing. The Lord has returned the evil of Nabal on his own head.” Then David sent and spoke to Abigail, to take her as his wife. (1Sa 24:15; 1Sa 25:26; 1Sa 25:32; 1Sa 25:33; 1Ki 2:44; Ps 7:16; So 8:8; Eze 17:19)40When the servants of David came to Abigail at Carmel, they said to her, “David has sent us to you to take you to him as his wife.”41And she rose and bowed with her face to the ground and said, “Behold, your handmaid is a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.” (Ru 2:10)42And Abigail hurried and rose and mounted a donkey, and her five young women attended her. She followed the messengers of David and became his wife.43David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel, and both of them became his wives. (Jos 15:56; 1Sa 27:3; 1Sa 30:5; 2Sa 2:2; 2Sa 3:2; 1Ch 3:1)44Saul had given Michal his daughter, David’s wife, to Palti the son of Laish, who was of Gallim.

Und sie war eine Frau von Verstand und schön von Angesicht, der Mann aber war hart und boshaft in seinem Tun und war ein Kalebiter.4Als nun David in der Wüste hörte, dass Nabal seine Schafe schor,5sandte er zehn Männer aus und sprach zu ihnen: Geht hinauf nach Karmel, und wenn ihr zu Nabal kommt, so grüßt ihn freundlich in meinem Namen6und sprecht: Glück zu! Friede sei mit dir und deinem Hause und mit allem, was du hast!7Ich habe gehört, dass du Schafschur hast. Nun, deine Hirten sind mit uns zusammen gewesen; wir haben ihnen nichts zuleide getan und sie haben nichts vermisst, solange sie in Karmel gewesen sind.8Frage deine Leute danach, die werden’s dir sagen. Und lass meine Männer Gnade finden vor deinen Augen, denn wir sind an einem Festtag gekommen. Gib deinen Knechten und deinem Sohn David, was du zur Hand hast.9Und als die Männer Davids hinkamen und in Davids Namen alle diese Worte mit Nabal redeten und ruhig warteten,10da antwortete Nabal den Knechten Davids: Wer ist David? Und wer ist der Sohn Isais? Es gibt jetzt viele Knechte, die ihren Herren davongelaufen sind. (Jud 9:28)11Sollte ich mein Brot und mein Wasser nehmen und mein Fleisch, das ich für meine Scherer geschlachtet habe, und Leuten geben, von denen ich nicht weiß, wo sie her sind? (Jud 8:6)12Da wandten sich die Männer Davids um und gingen ihres Weges. Und als sie zu ihm zurückkamen, sagten sie ihm das alles.13Da sprach David zu seinen Männern: Gürte sich ein jeder sein Schwert um! Und jeder gürtete sich sein Schwert um, und auch David gürtete sich sein Schwert um, und etwa vierhundert Mann zogen ihm nach, aber zweihundert blieben bei dem Tross.14Aber der Abigajil, Nabals Frau, sagte es einer von den Leuten und sprach: Siehe, David hat Boten gesandt aus der Wüste, unsern Herrn zu grüßen, er aber hat sie angeschrien.15Aber die Männer sind uns doch sehr nützlich gewesen und haben uns nichts zuleide getan, und wir haben nichts vermisst, solange wir mit ihnen umherzogen, wenn wir auf dem Felde waren,16sondern sie sind wie eine Mauer um uns gewesen Tag und Nacht, solange wir die Schafe bei ihnen gehütet haben.17So bedenke nun und sieh zu, was du tust; denn es ist gewiss ein Unheil beschlossen über unsern Herrn und über sein ganzes Haus. Er aber ist ein heilloser Mensch, dem niemand etwas zu sagen wagt.18Da eilte Abigajil und nahm zweihundert Brote und zwei Krüge Wein und fünf zubereitete Schafe und fünf Scheffel Röstkorn und hundert Rosinenkuchen und zweihundert Feigenkuchen und lud alles auf Esel19und sprach zu ihren Leuten: Geht vor mir her; siehe, ich will sogleich hinter euch herkommen. Und sie sagte ihrem Mann Nabal nichts davon.20Und als sie auf dem Esel ritt und hinabzog im Schutz des Berges, siehe, da kamen David und seine Männer hinab ihr entgegen, sodass sie auf sie stieß.21David aber hatte gedacht: Nun hab ich alles umsonst behütet, was der da in der Wüste hat, sodass nichts vermisst wurde von allem, was er hat; und er vergilt mir Gutes mit Bösem! (Ps 35:12)22Gott tue mir dies und noch mehr, wenn ich ihm bis zum lichten Morgen einen Einzigen übrig lasse, der an die Wand pisst, von allem, was er hat.23Als nun Abigajil David sah, stieg sie eilends vom Esel und fiel vor David nieder und beugte sich zur Erde (Ru 2:10; 1Sa 25:41)24und fiel ihm zu Füßen und sprach: Ach, mein Herr, auf mich allein falle die Schuld! Lass deine Magd reden vor deinen Ohren und höre die Worte deiner Magd!25Mein Herr achte nicht auf diesen heillosen Mann, diesen Nabal; denn er ist, wie er heißt. Er heißt »Narr«, und Narrheit ist bei ihm. Ich aber, deine Magd, habe die Männer meines Herrn nicht gesehen, die du gesandt hast.26Nun aber, mein Herr, so wahr der HERR lebt und so wahr du selbst lebst: Der HERR hat dich davor bewahrt, in Blutschuld zu geraten und dir mit eigener Hand zu helfen. So sollen deine Feinde und alle, die meinem Herrn übel wollen, wie Nabal werden!27Hier ist die Segensgabe, die deine Magd meinem Herrn gebracht hat; das soll den Männern gegeben werden, die meinem Herrn folgen. (Ge 33:11)28Vergib deiner Magd ihr Vergehen! Der HERR wird meinem Herrn ein beständiges Haus bauen, denn du führst des HERRN Kriege. Es möge nichts Böses an dir gefunden werden dein Leben lang. (1Sa 2:35; 2Sa 7:11; 2Sa 7:16)29Und wenn sich ein Mensch erheben wird, dich zu verfolgen und dir nach dem Leben zu trachten, so soll das Leben meines Herrn eingebunden sein im Bündlein der Lebendigen bei dem HERRN, deinem Gott, aber das Leben deiner Feinde soll er fortschleudern mit der Schleuder. (Ps 69:29)30Wenn dann der HERR meinem Herrn all das Gute tun wird, das er dir zugesagt hat, und dich zum Fürsten bestellt hat über Israel, (2Sa 5:2)31so wird’s dem Herzen meines Herrn nicht ein Anstoß noch Ärgernis sein, dass du unschuldiges Blut vergossen und dir selber geholfen habest. Und wenn der HERR meinem Herrn wohltun wird, so wollest du an deine Magd denken.32Da sprach David zu Abigajil: Gelobt sei der HERR, der Gott Israels, der dich heute mir entgegengesandt hat,33und gesegnet sei deine Klugheit, und gesegnet seist du, dass du mich heute davon zurückgehalten hast, in Blutschuld zu geraten und mir mit eigener Hand zu helfen.34Wahrlich, so wahr der HERR, der Gott Israels, lebt, der mich davor bewahrt hat, übel an dir zu tun: Wärest du nicht eilends mir begegnet, so wäre dem Nabal bis zum lichten Morgen nicht ein Einziger übrig geblieben, der an die Wand pisst.35Also nahm David aus ihrer Hand, was sie ihm gebracht hatte, und sprach zu ihr: Zieh mit Frieden hinauf in dein Haus; sieh, ich habe auf deine Stimme gehört und dein Antlitz erhoben.36Als aber Abigajil zu Nabal kam, siehe, da hatte er ein Mahl zubereitet in seinem Hause wie eines Königs Mahl, und sein Herz war guter Dinge, und er war sehr betrunken. Sie aber sagte ihm nichts, weder wenig noch viel, bis an den lichten Morgen.37Als es aber Morgen geworden und die Trunkenheit von Nabal gewichen war, sagte ihm seine Frau alles. Da erstarb sein Herz in seinem Leibe, und er ward wie ein Stein.38Und nach zehn Tagen schlug der HERR den Nabal, dass er starb.39Als David hörte, dass Nabal tot war, sprach er: Gelobt sei der HERR, der meine Schmach gerächt hat an Nabal und seinen Knecht abgehalten hat von einer bösen Tat! Der HERR hat dem Nabal seine böse Tat auf seinen Kopf vergolten. Und David sandte hin und ließ Abigajil sagen, dass er sie zur Frau nehmen wolle.40Und als die Knechte Davids zu Abigajil nach Karmel kamen, redeten sie mit ihr und sprachen: David hat uns zu dir gesandt, dass er dich zur Frau nehme.41Sie stand auf und fiel nieder auf ihr Angesicht zur Erde und sprach: Siehe, deine Magd ist bereit, den Knechten meines Herrn zu dienen und ihre Füße zu waschen.42Und Abigajil machte sich eilends auf und setzte sich auf einen Esel, und ihre fünf Mägde gingen hinter ihr her. Und sie zog den Boten Davids nach und wurde seine Frau. (1Sa 27:3; 1Sa 30:5; 2Sa 2:2; 2Sa 3:3)43Auch hatte David Ahinoam von Jesreel zur Frau genommen; sie wurden beide seine Frauen.44Saul aber hatte seine Tochter Michal, Davids Frau, Palti, dem Sohn des Lajisch aus Gallim, gegeben. (2Sa 3:14; Isa 10:30)
1Samuel mourut. Tout Israël se rassembla pour le pleurer et on l'enterra chez lui à Rama. Quant à David, il se leva et descendit au désert de Paran.2Il y avait à Maon un homme très riche, qui possédait des biens à Carmel. Il avait 3000 brebis et 1000 chèvres, et il se trouvait à Carmel pour la tonte de ses brebis.3Le nom de cet homme était Nabal et sa femme s'appelait Abigaïl. C'était une femme pleine de bon sens et très belle, tandis que son mari était dur et méchant dans sa manière d'agir. Il descendait de Caleb.4Alors qu'il était au désert, David apprit que Nabal tondait ses brebis.5Il envoya dix jeunes gens vers lui en leur ordonnant: «Montez à Carmel et allez trouver Nabal. Vous le saluerez en mon nom6et lui direz: ‘Longue vie à toi! Que la paix soit avec toi, avec ta famille et avec tout ce qui t'appartient!7Maintenant, j'ai appris que tu as chez toi les tondeurs. Or, lorsque tes bergers étaient avec nous, nous ne leur avons fait aucun mal et rien ne leur a été volé durant tout le temps où ils étaient avec nous à Carmel.8Demande-le à tes serviteurs et ils te le confirmeront. Que ces jeunes gens trouvent donc grâce à tes yeux, puisque nous venons dans un jour de joie. Donne donc à tes serviteurs et à ton fils David ce que tu as sous la main.’»9Lorsque les hommes de David furent arrivés, ils répétèrent toutes ces paroles à Nabal, au nom de David, puis ils se turent.10Nabal répondit aux serviteurs de David: «Qui est David et qui est le fils d'Isaï? Il y a aujourd'hui beaucoup de serviteurs qui s'échappent de chez leur maître.11Et je devrais prendre mon pain, mon eau, mon bétail que j'ai tué pour mes tondeurs, pour les donner à des gens qui sortent je ne sais d'où?»12Les hommes de David rebroussèrent chemin, ils repartirent et répétèrent, à leur arrivée, toutes ces paroles à David.13Alors David dit à ses hommes: «Que chacun de vous prenne son épée!» Et ils prirent chacun leur épée. David aussi prit la sienne, et environ 400 hommes montèrent à sa suite, tandis que 200 restaient près du matériel.14Un des serviteurs de Nabal vint dire à Abigaïl, la femme de Nabal: «David a envoyé du désert des messagers pour saluer notre maître, et celui-ci les a traités avec dureté.15Pourtant ces hommes se sont montrés très bons pour nous. Ils ne nous ont fait aucun mal et rien ne nous a été volé durant tout le temps où nous avons été avec eux lorsque nous étions dans les champs.16Ils nous ont nuit et jour servi de protection, durant tout le temps où nous avons été avec eux pour garder les troupeaux.17Maintenant, sache et vois ce que tu as à faire, car la perte de notre maître et de toute sa famille est décidée. Lui-même est si méchant que nous n'osons pas lui parler.»18Abigaïl prit aussitôt 200 pains, 2 outres de vin, 5 brebis toutes préparées, 5 mesures de grain rôti, 100 gâteaux aux raisins secs et 200 aux figues sèches. Elle chargea tout cela sur des ânes19et dit à ses serviteurs: «Passez devant moi, je vais vous suivre.» Elle ne dit rien à Nabal, son mari.20Montée sur un âne, elle descendit, cachée par la montagne. David et ses hommes descendaient en face d'elle, de sorte qu'elle les rencontra.21David avait dit: «C'est bien inutilement que j'ai gardé tout ce que cet homme a dans le désert et que rien de tout ce qu'il possède n'a été volé. Il m'a rendu le mal pour le bien.22Que Dieu traite son serviteur David avec la plus grande sévérité, si je laisse en vie jusqu'au matin un seul homme parmi tous ceux qui appartiennent à Nabal!»23Lorsque Abigaïl aperçut David, elle descendit rapidement de l'âne, tomba sur son visage devant lui et se prosterna contre terre.24Puis, se jetant à ses pieds, elle dit: «C'est ma faute, mon seigneur! Permets à ta servante de te parler et écoute ses paroles.25Que mon seigneur ne prête pas attention à ce méchant homme, à Nabal, car il porte bien son nom: il s'appelle Nabal et il y a chez lui de la folie. Quant à moi, ta servante, je n'ai pas vu les hommes que toi, mon seigneur, tu avais envoyés.26Maintenant, mon seigneur, aussi vrai que l'Eternel est vivant et que ton âme est vivante, c'est l'Eternel qui t'a empêché de verser le sang et qui a retenu ta main. Que tes ennemis, que ceux qui veulent du mal à mon seigneur, soient pareils à Nabal!27Accepte ce cadeau que moi, ta servante, je t'apporte, à toi mon seigneur, et qu'il soit distribué aux hommes qui marchent à la suite de mon seigneur.28Pardonne la faute de ta servante! En effet, l'Eternel accordera à mon seigneur une maison stable, car mon seigneur soutient les guerres de l'Eternel et on ne trouvera jamais rien de mauvais chez toi.29Si quelqu'un se dresse pour te poursuivre et en veut à ta vie, ton âme, mon seigneur, sera bien gardée avec les vivants auprès de l'Eternel, ton Dieu. En revanche, il enverra au loin comme avec une fronde l'âme de tes ennemis.30Lorsque l'Eternel aura fait à mon seigneur tout le bien qu'il t'a annoncé et qu'il t'aura établi chef sur Israël,31mon seigneur n'aura ni remords ni trouble dans son cœur pour avoir versé le sang inutilement et pour s'être vengé lui-même. Et lorsque l'Eternel aura fait du bien à mon seigneur, souviens-toi de ta servante.»32David dit à Abigaïl: «Béni soit l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, qui t'a envoyée aujourd'hui à ma rencontre!33Béni soit ton bon sens et bénie sois-tu, toi qui m'as empêché aujourd'hui de verser le sang et qui as retenu ma main!34Mais l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, qui m'a empêché de te faire du mal est vivant, si tu ne t'étais pas dépêchée de venir à ma rencontre, il ne serait pas resté un seul homme à Nabal d'ici le matin.»35David prit ce qu'Abigaïl lui avait apporté et lui dit: «Monte en paix chez toi. Tu vois, je t'ai écoutée et je t'ai bien accueillie.»36Abigaïl arriva vers Nabal alors qu'il faisait un festin digne d'un roi dans sa maison. Il avait le cœur joyeux et il était complètement ivre. Elle ne lui dit pas un seul mot jusqu'au matin.37Mais le matin, l'ivresse de Nabal s'était dissipée et sa femme lui raconta ce qui s'était passé. Le cœur de Nabal reçut un coup mortel et il devint aussi inerte qu'une pierre.38Environ dix jours après, l'Eternel frappa Nabal et il mourut.39David apprit que Nabal était mort et il dit: «Béni soit l'Eternel! Il a défendu ma cause dans l'affront que m'a fait Nabal et il a empêché son serviteur de faire le mal. L'Eternel a fait retomber la méchanceté de Nabal sur sa tête.» David envoya proposer à Abigaïl de devenir sa femme.40Les serviteurs de David arrivèrent chez Abigaïl à Carmel. Ils lui dirent: «David nous a envoyés vers toi parce qu'il désire te prendre pour femme.»41Elle se leva, se prosterna le visage contre terre et dit: «Voici, moi ta servante, je serai une esclave pour laver les pieds des serviteurs de mon seigneur.»42Abigaïl partit immédiatement, montée sur un âne et accompagnée de cinq jeunes filles. Elle suivit les messagers de David et devint ainsi sa femme.43David avait aussi épousé Achinoam de Jizreel, et toutes les deux furent ses femmes.44Saül avait donné sa fille Mical, la femme de David, à Palthi de Gallim, fils de Laïsh.
