Zion, the City of Our God

A Song. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah.

1 Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised in the city of our God! His holy mountain, (Ps 2:6; Ps 46:4; Ps 87:1; Ps 96:4; Ps 145:3; Isa 2:3; Mic 4:1; Zec 8:3)

2 beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great King. (Ps 50:2; La 2:15; Eze 20:6; Mt 5:35)

3 Within her citadels God has made himself known as a fortress. 4 For behold, the kings assembled; they came on together. (2Sa 10:6) 5 As soon as they saw it, they were astounded; they were in panic; they took to flight. 6 Trembling took hold of them there, anguish as of a woman in labor. (Ex 15:15; Isa 13:8; Ho 13:13) 7 By the east wind you shattered the ships of Tarshish. (1Ki 10:22; 1Ki 22:48; Jer 18:17; Eze 27:26)

8 As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God, which God will establish forever. Selah (Ps 1:1; Ps 87:5; Isa 2:2; Mic 4:1)

9 We have thought on your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple. (Ps 26:3; Ps 40:10) 10 As your name, O God, so your praise reaches to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness. (Ex 34:5; Ex 34:6; De 28:58; Ps 22:27; Ps 113:3; Mal 1:11; Mal 1:14)

11 Let Mount Zion be glad! Let the daughters of Judah rejoice because of your judgments! (Ps 97:8) 12 Walk about Zion, go around her, number her towers, 13 consider well her ramparts, go through her citadels, that you may tell the next generation (Ps 78:4; Ps 122:7) 14 that this is God, our God forever and ever. He will guide us forever.^[1] (Ps 23:3; Ps 23:4)

Gottes Stadt

1 Ein Psalmlied der Korachiter. 2 Groß ist der HERR und hoch zu rühmen in der Stadt unsres Gottes, auf seinem heiligen Berge. (Ps 46:5) 3 Schön ragt empor sein Gipfel, daran sich freut die ganze Welt, der Berg Zion fern im Norden, die Stadt des großen Königs. (La 2:15; Mt 5:35) 4 Gott ist in ihren Palästen, er ist bekannt als Schutz. 5 Denn siehe, Könige waren versammelt und miteinander herangezogen. (2Ki 18:17) 6 Sie haben sich verwundert, da sie solches sahen; sie haben sich entsetzt und sind davongestürzt. 7 Zittern hat sie daselbst gepackt, Angst wie eine Gebärende. 8 Du zerbrichst die großen Schiffe durch den Sturm vom Osten. 9 Wie wir’s gehört haben, so sehen wir’s an der Stadt des HERRN Zebaoth, an der Stadt unsres Gottes: Gott erhält sie ewiglich. Sela. 10 Gott, wir gedenken deiner Güte in deinem Tempel. 11 Gott, wie dein Name, so ist auch dein Ruhm bis an der Welt Enden. Deine Rechte ist voll Gerechtigkeit. (Mal 1:11) 12 Es freue sich der Berg Zion, und die Töchter Juda seien fröhlich um deiner Rechte willen. 13 Ziehet um den Zion herum und umschreitet ihn, zählt seine Türme; 14 habt gut acht auf seine Mauern, / durchwandert seine Paläste, dass ihr den Nachkommen davon erzählt: 15 Dieser ist Gott, unser Gott für immer und ewig. Er ist’s, der uns führet. (Isa 25:9)

La bellezza di Sion

1 Canto. Salmo dei figli di Core. Grande è il Signore e degno di lode nella città del nostro Dio, sul suo monte santo. 2 Bello si erge, e rallegra tutta la terra, il monte Sion: parte estrema del settentrione, città del gran re. 3 Nei suoi palazzi Dio è conosciuto come fortezza inespugnabile. 4 Quando i re si erano alleati e avanzavano uniti, 5 appena la videro rimasero attoniti; rimasti smarriti, si misero in fuga. 6 Là furono presi da tremore e da doglie come di donna che partorisce, 7 come quando il vento orientale spezza le navi di Tarsis. 8 Quel che avevamo udito l’abbiamo visto nella città del Signore degli eserciti, nella città del nostro Dio. Dio la renderà stabile per sempre. [Pausa] 9 Dentro il tuo tempio, o Dio, noi ricordiamo la tua bontà. 10 Come il tuo nome, o Dio, così la tua lode giunge fino alle estremità della terra; la tua destra è piena di giustizia. 11 Si rallegri il monte Sion, esultino le figlie di Giuda per i tuoi giudizi! 12 Fate il giro di Sion, marciatele attorno, contate le sue torri, 13 osservate le sue mura, considerate i suoi palazzi, perché possiate dire alla generazione futura: 14 «Questo è Dio, il nostro Dio in eterno; egli sarà la nostra guida fino alla morte».
