1 Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have given me relief when I was in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer! (Job 36:16; Isa 54:17; Jer 23:6) 2 O men,[1] how long shall my honor be turned into shame? How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah (Ps 5:6) 3 But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him. (Ex 11:7; Ps 50:5) 4 Be angry,[2] and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah (Ps 42:8; Ps 77:6; Eph 4:26) 5 Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the LORD. (De 33:19; Ps 37:3; Ps 51:19; Ps 62:8) 6 There are many who say, “Who will show us some good? Lift up the light of your face upon us, O LORD!” (Nu 6:26; Ps 31:16; Ps 67:1; Ps 80:3; Ps 80:7; Ps 80:19; Ps 89:15; Ps 119:135) 7 You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound. (Isa 9:3; Isa 16:10; Jer 48:38) 8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. (Le 25:18; Le 25:19; Le 26:5; De 33:28; Ps 3:5; Ps 16:9)

1 To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer. 2 O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah. 3 But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him. 4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. 5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. 6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. 7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. 8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
