1Listen to me in silence, O coastlands; let the peoples renew their strength; let them approach, then let them speak; let us together draw near for judgment. (Isa 11:11; Hab 2:20; Zec 2:13)2Who stirred up one from the east whom victory meets at every step?[1] He gives up nations before him, so that he tramples kings underfoot; he makes them like dust with his sword, like driven stubble with his bow. (Jud 4:10; 2Ch 36:23; Isa 40:24; Isa 45:1; Isa 46:11)3He pursues them and passes on safely, by paths his feet have not trod.4Who has performed and done this, calling the generations from the beginning? I, the Lord, the first, and with the last; I am he. (Isa 41:26; Isa 43:10; Isa 44:6; Isa 48:12; Re 1:8; Re 1:17; Re 22:13)5The coastlands have seen and are afraid; the ends of the earth tremble; they have drawn near and come. (Isa 11:11)6Everyone helps his neighbor and says to his brother, “Be strong!”7The craftsman strengthens the goldsmith, and he who smooths with the hammer him who strikes the anvil, saying of the soldering, “It is good”; and they strengthen it with nails so that it cannot be moved. (Isa 40:19; Isa 40:20)8But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend; (De 7:6; De 10:15; De 14:2; 2Ch 20:7; Ps 135:4; Isa 44:1; Jas 2:23; 1Pe 2:9)9you whom I took from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, “You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off”; (Isa 41:8; Isa 43:5)10fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Ps 48:10)11Behold, all who are incensed against you shall be put to shame and confounded; those who strive against you shall be as nothing and shall perish. (Isa 45:24)12You shall seek those who contend with you, but you shall not find them; those who war against you shall be as nothing at all. (Ps 37:10; Isa 40:17)13For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”14Fear not, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel! I am the one who helps you, declares the Lord; your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel. And you shall rejoice in the Lord; in the Holy One of Israel you shall glory. (Isa 41:2; Isa 45:25; Jer 51:2)17When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the Lord will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them. (Isa 44:3)18I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. (Ps 107:35; Isa 35:6)19I will put in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia, the myrtle, and the olive. I will set in the desert the cypress, the plane and the pine together, (Isa 35:1; Isa 55:12; Isa 60:13)20that they may see and know, may consider and understand together, that the hand of the Lord has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created it. (Job 12:9)
The Futility of Idols
21Set forth your case, says the Lord; bring your proofs, says the King of Jacob.22Let them bring them, and tell us what is to happen. Tell us the former things, what they are, that we may consider them, that we may know their outcome; or declare to us the things to come. (Isa 41:26; Isa 44:7; Isa 45:21; Isa 46:10)23Tell us what is to come hereafter, that we may know that you are gods; do good, or do harm, that we may be dismayed and terrified.[2] (Isa 41:22; Isa 45:7)24Behold, you are nothing, and your work is less than nothing; an abomination is he who chooses you. (Ps 115:8; Isa 41:29; 1Co 8:4)25I stirred up one from the north, and he has come, from the rising of the sun, and he shall call upon my name; he shall trample on rulers as on mortar, as the potter treads clay. (Ps 44:5; Isa 41:2; Jer 50:3)26Who declared it from the beginning, that we might know, and beforehand, that we might say, “He is right”? There was none who declared it, none who proclaimed, none who heard your words. (Isa 41:22)27I was the first to say[3] to Zion, “Behold, here they are!” and I give to Jerusalem a herald of good news. (Isa 40:9; Isa 51:12; Isa 52:7)28But when I look, there is no one; among these there is no counselor who, when I ask, gives an answer. (Isa 41:21)29Behold, they are all a delusion; their works are nothing; their metal images are empty wind. (Isa 41:12)

Ich habe einen Rechtsstreit mit ihnen; wir wollen ihn vor euch austragen. (Isa 41:21)2Wer war es, der den Mann aus dem Osten[1] auftreten ließ, ihn, der überall siegt, wo er hinkommt? Er unterwirft sich die Völker und entthront ihre Könige, mit seinen Heeren treibt er sie vor sich her wie der Wind den Staub oder die Spreu. (Isa 45:1)3Er jagt ihnen nach, seine Füße scheinen den Boden kaum zu berühren. Niemand kann ihm etwas anhaben.4Wer war es, der dies in Gang gesetzt hat? Der, der von Anfang an die Menschen ins Dasein ruft und die Geschicke der Völker lenkt! Ich war es, der HERR; ich bin der Erste, und bis zuletzt bleibe ich Herr über alles, was geschieht!«[2] (Isa 44:6)
Die Völker suchen Schutz
5Die Bewohner der fernsten Länder sahen, was da geschah, und zitterten vor Angst; sie machten sich auf und kamen zusammen.6Sie helfen einander und sprechen sich gegenseitig Mut zu.7Sie machen ihr Götterbild fertig: Der Gießer glättet es mit dem Hammer, dann sagt er zum Goldschmied: »Nur zu!« Der Goldschmied hämmert den Belag auf und sagt: »Das hält!« Und zuletzt befestigt einer das Standbild mit Nägeln auf dem Podest, damit es nicht wackelt. (Isa 44:9)
Gott steht zu seinem erwählten Volk
8Der HERR sagt: »Israel, du Volk Jakobs, das ich erwählt habe, damit es mir dient, du Nachkommenschaft meines Freundes Abraham! (2Ch 20:7; Ps 135:4; Jer 30:10)9Du weißt: Aus dem fernsten Winkel der Erde habe ich dich gerufen und herbeigeholt, ich habe zu dir gesagt: ›Du stehst in meinem Dienst!‹ Ich habe dich erwählt und ich habe dich auch jetzt nicht verstoßen.10Fürchte dich nicht, ich stehe dir bei! Hab keine Angst, ich bin dein Gott! Ich mache dich stark, ich helfe dir, ich schütze dich mit meiner siegreichen Hand! (Isa 41:13; Isa 43:1; Isa 43:5; Isa 44:8; Isa 51:7; Isa 54:4)11Alle, die gegen dich wüten, werden in Schimpf und Schande dastehen; alle, die dir dein Lebensrecht streitig machen, werden zugrunde gehen.12Du wirst dich nach ihnen umsehen, aber sie nicht mehr finden; alle deine Feinde verschwinden und werden zu nichts.13Denn ich bin der HERR, dein Gott, ich fasse dich bei der Hand und sage zu dir: Fürchte dich nicht! Ich selbst, ich helfe dir!14Fürchte dich nicht, Israel, du Nachkommenschaft Jakobs! Auch wenn du so schwach und hilflos bist wie ein Wurm, den man zertritt – ich, der HERR, helfe dir; darauf gebe ich dir mein Wort. Ich, der heilige Gott Israels, bin dein Befreier. (Isa 41:10)15Ich mache dich zu einem Dreschschlitten mit neuen, scharfen Zähnen. Berge und Hügel wirst du dreschen und zu Staub zermahlen;16mit der Worfschaufel wirfst du sie in die Luft, sodass der Sturm sie wie Spreu davonträgt. Dann wirst du jubeln über das, was ich getan habe; du wirst den heiligen Gott Israels preisen, der dir geholfen hat.«
Gott führt sein Volk durch die Wüste
17Der HERR sagt: »Mein Volk ist am Verdursten, sie suchen nach Wasser und finden keins; ihre Zunge klebt schon am Gaumen. Aber ich, der HERR, höre ihren Hilferuf; ich, der Gott Israels, lasse sie nicht im Stich!18Auf den steinigen Höhen lasse ich Wasser hervorbrechen und im Wüstensand Quellen entspringen. In der Steppe sollen sich Teiche bilden, aus dem ausgedörrten Boden soll Wasser hervorsprudeln. (Isa 35:7; Isa 43:19)19Mitten in der Wüste lasse ich Schatten spendende Bäume aufwachsen: Zedern, Akazien, Myrten und Ölbäume, Wacholder, Pinien und Zypressen. (Isa 35:1)20Wenn sie das sehen, werden sie begreifen, dass ich, der HERR, eingegriffen habe, und sie werden erkennen: Der heilige Gott Israels hat dies alles geschaffen.«
Die Götter sollen ihre Macht beweisen
21Der HERR, der König Israels, sagt zu den Göttern der Völker: »Stellt euch auf zum Prozess! Bringt eure Beweise vor! (Isa 40:18; Isa 41:1; Isa 43:9; Isa 44:7; Isa 48:3)22Lasst uns hören, was ihr vollbracht habt! Erzählt es uns, wir lassen uns gerne belehren. Oder sagt uns voraus, was ihr in Zukunft vollbringen wollt! Dann werden wir euch glauben, wenn es eintrifft.23Sagt doch irgendetwas voraus, etwas Gutes oder etwas Schlimmes, dann werden wir alle erkennen, dass ihr Götter seid, und werden Respekt vor euch haben!24Aber ihr seid ja nichts und könnt auch nichts. Wer euch liebt, ist mir verhasst. (1Sa 12:21; Ps 115:4)25Ich erweckte den Mann aus dem Osten[3] und er machte sich auf; ich rief ihn beim Namen und er kam. Er tritt die Mächtigen in den Staub, er verfährt mit ihnen wie der Töpfer, der den Ton mit den Füßen stampft. (Isa 45:1)26Wer hat das im Voraus angekündigt, sodass wir sagen müssten: ›Er hat recht gehabt‹? Keiner von euch hat es angekündigt, keiner hat es vorausgesagt, kein Wörtchen hat man von euch gehört.27Ich allein, ich habe das den Leuten von Jerusalem angekündigt und der Zionsstadt den Freudenboten mit dieser Nachricht geschickt. (Isa 52:7)28Ich sehe mich um, da sind die Götter alle verschwunden, und aus dem Kreis der Völker nimmt sie keiner in Schutz. Niemand antwortet auf meine Fragen.29Sie sind alle nichts,[4] die Götter, sie haben nichts vorzuweisen. Und ihre Bilder haben schon gar nichts zu bedeuten.«
