1Then Jacob called his sons and said, “Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you what shall happen to you in days to come. (Nu 24:14; De 4:30; De 31:29; De 33:6; Isa 2:2; Jer 23:20; Da 2:28; Da 10:14; Ho 3:5)2“Assemble and listen, O sons of Jacob, listen to Israel your father.3“Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the firstfruits of my strength, preeminent in dignity and preeminent in power. (Ge 29:32; De 21:17)4Unstable as water, you shall not have preeminence, because you went up to your father’s bed; then you defiled it—he went up to my couch! (Ge 35:22; 1Ch 5:1)5“Simeon and Levi are brothers; weapons of violence are their swords. (Ge 29:33; Ge 34:25)6Let my soul come not into their council; O my glory, be not joined to their company. For in their anger they killed men, and in their willfulness they hamstrung oxen. (Nu 24:17; De 28:57; Zec 10:11)11Binding his foal to the vine and his donkey’s colt to the choice vine, he has washed his garments in wine and his vesture in the blood of grapes.12His eyes are darker than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk. (Pr 23:29)13“Zebulun shall dwell at the shore of the sea; he shall become a haven for ships, and his border shall be at Sidon. (De 1:7; De 33:18; Jos 9:1; Jos 19:10; Jud 5:17)14“Issachar is a strong donkey, crouching between the sheepfolds.[2] (Jud 5:16; 1Ch 12:32)15He saw that a resting place was good, and that the land was pleasant, so he bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant at forced labor. (Jos 16:10)16“Dan shall judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel. (Ge 30:6; De 33:22)17Dan shall be a serpent in the way, a viper by the path, that bites the horse’s heels so that his rider falls backward. (Jud 18:27)18I wait for your salvation, O Lord. (Ps 25:5; Ps 119:166; Ps 119:174; Isa 25:9; Mic 7:7; Lu 2:25)19“Raiders shall raid Gad,[3] but he shall raid at their heels. (De 33:20; 1Ch 5:18)20“Asher’s food shall be rich, and he shall yield royal delicacies. (De 33:24)21“Naphtali is a doe let loose that bears beautiful fawns.[4] (De 33:23)22“Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a spring; his branches run over the wall.[5] (Ge 41:52; Jos 17:14; Jos 17:18)23The archers bitterly attacked him, shot at him, and harassed him severely, (Ge 37:24; Ge 37:28; Ge 39:20)24yet his bow remained unmoved; his arms[6] were made agile by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob (from there is the Shepherd,[7] the Stone of Israel), (De 32:4; Job 29:20; Ps 23:1; Ps 80:1; Ps 132:2; Ps 132:5; Isa 1:24; Isa 28:16; Eph 2:20; 1Pe 2:4)25by the God of your father who will help you, by the Almighty[8] who will bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that crouches beneath, blessings of the breasts and of the womb. (Ge 17:1; Ge 35:3; Ge 35:11; Ge 50:17; De 33:13)26The blessings of your father are mighty beyond the blessings of my parents, up to the bounties of the everlasting hills.[9] May they be on the head of Joseph, and on the brow of him who was set apart from his brothers. (De 33:15; De 33:16; Hab 3:6)27“Benjamin is a ravenous wolf, in the morning devouring the prey and at evening dividing the spoil.” (Jud 20:21; Jud 20:25; Eze 22:27; Eze 39:10; Zec 14:1)
Jacob’s Death and Burial
28All these are the twelve tribes of Israel. This is what their father said to them as he blessed them, blessing each with the blessing suitable to him.29Then he commanded them and said to them, “I am to be gathered to my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, (Ge 23:9; Ge 25:8; Ge 47:30; Ge 49:33; Ge 50:13)30in the cave that is in the field at Machpelah, to the east of Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite to possess as a burying place. (Ge 23:16)31There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife. There they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife, and there I buried Leah— (Ge 23:19; Ge 25:9; Ge 35:29)32the field and the cave that is in it were bought from the Hittites.”33When Jacob finished commanding his sons, he drew up his feet into the bed and breathed his last and was gathered to his people. (Ge 49:29)

(Ge 29:32)4Und doch kannst du nicht Erster bleiben; denn zügellos wie wilde Fluten bist du einst auf mein Bett gestiegen und hast dich dadurch selbst geschändet. (Ge 35:22)5-6Ihr beiden Brüder, Simeon und Levi, ihr könnt mich nie dafür gewinnen, mich euren Plänen anzuschließen; denn ihr kennt nichts als Wut und Willkür! Ganz sinnlos habt ihr Männer abgeschlachtet und starke Stiere ohne Grund verstümmelt. (Ge 34:25)7Verflucht sei euer wildes Wüten, weil es so roh und grausam ist. Das Urteil über euch hat Gott gesprochen: ›Ihr dürft nicht mehr zusammenbleiben; ich werde euch in Israel zerstreuen!‹ (Jos 19:1; Jos 21:1)8Dich, Juda, preisen deine Brüder! Voll Freude jubeln sie dir zu, weil du den Feind im Nacken packst, und in den Staub hinunterzwingst. (Nu 10:14; Jud 1:1)9Mein Sohn, du gleichst dem jungen Löwen, der niemals leer vom Raubzug heimkehrt: Er legt sich neben seine Beute, und keiner wagt ihn aufzustören. (Re 5:5)10Nur dir gehören Thron und Zepter, dein Stamm wird stets den König stellen, bis Schilo[1] kommt, der große Herrscher, dem alle Völker dienen sollen. (1Ch 5:2; 1Ch 28:4; Heb 7:14)11Ja, Juda lebt im Überfluss: Ganz achtlos bindet er sein Reittier am allerbesten Weinstock fest und wäscht im Traubenblut den Mantel. (Joe 4:18)12Der Wein macht seine Augen funkeln und Milch die Zähne blendend weiß.13Du, Sebulon, wohnst nah beim Meer, dort, wo die Schiffe einen Hafen finden; bis hin nach Sidon reicht dein Land!14-15Du, Issachar, beugst deinen Rücken und schleppst als Sklave schwere Lasten. Genauso wie ein dürrer Esel brichst du darunter in die Knie. Du zahlst den Preis für deine Sehnsucht nach einem schönen, ebnen Land und einem Leben ohne Mühe!16Du, Dan, bewahrst das Recht des Volkes! Deswegen wird dein Stamm geachtet von allen Stämmen Israels.17Gefährlich bist du wie die Schlange, die auf der Lauer liegt am Wegrand: Sie beißt das Pferd in seine Fesseln, dann stürzt der Reiter rücklings ab. So siegst du über deine Feinde!18Ich warte, HERR, auf deine Hilfe!19Du, Gad, von Räubern oft bedrängt,[2] lässt dich von ihnen nie berauben; du wehrst sie ab und jagst sie fort!20Die Felder Aschers tragen reiche Frucht; in seinem Land wächst nur das Beste, die Speise für des Königs Tisch.21Du, Naftali, gleichst einer Hirschkuh, die auf den Bergen frei umherläuft und schöne, starke Junge hat.[3]22Du, Josef, bist dem Weinstock gleich, der an der Quelle üppig treibt und seine Mauer überwuchert.23Die Feinde fordern dich zum Kampf, beschießen dich mit ihren Pfeilen;24doch du bleibst unerschüttert stehen und schießt mit rascher Hand zurück. Bei dir ist Jakobs starker Gott; deswegen führst du Israel und bist des Volkes Schutz und Stärke.25Gott, der Gewaltige, ist es, der dir hilft; dich segnet deines Vaters Gott. Er gibt dir Regen aus dem Himmel, gibt Quellen aus der Erdentiefe. Das Leben mehrt und segnet er mit Fruchtbarkeit des Mutterleibes, mit Überfluss aus Mutterbrüsten. (Ge 7:11; Ge 8:2)26Du siehst die Berge, fest und ewig, die hoch bis in die Wolken ragen; dein Reichtum überragt sie alle.[4] Dies alles ist dir vorbehalten, weil du den Segen erben sollst, den ich, dein Vater, einst empfing. Du, Josef, bist der Auserwählte inmitten aller deiner Brüder!27Du, Benjamin, bist wie der Wolf, der morgens seinen Raub verschlingt und abends seine Beute teilt.« (Jud 20:21; Jud 20:25)28Mit diesen Worten segnete Jakob seine Söhne. Er gab jedem zum Abschied ein besonderes Segenswort. In die Zukunft blickend, sprach er von den zwölf Stämmen Israels.29-30Danach ordnete er an: »Wenn ich tot bin, dann bringt mich ins Land Kanaan und bettet mich zur letzten Ruhe neben meinen Vorfahren, in der Höhle auf dem Feld Machpela östlich von Mamre. Dieses Grundstück hat Abraham von dem Hetiter Efron als Grabstätte für seine Familie erworben. (Ge 23:3)31Dort wurden Abraham und Sara zur letzten Ruhe gebettet, dort liegen Isaak und Rebekka, und auch Lea habe ich dort beigesetzt. (Ge 25:9; Ge 35:29)32Das Feld und die Höhle darauf sind unser rechtmäßiges Eigentum; wir haben es von den Hetitern gekauft.«33Während Jakob seinen Söhnen diese letzten Anweisungen gab, saß er auf dem Rand seines Bettes. Nun hob er seine Füße aufs Bett und legte sich zurück. Bald darauf starb er und wurde im Tod mit seinen Vorfahren vereint.
