Matthew 8

1 When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. (Mt 4:25) 2 And behold, a leper[1] came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” (Mt 18:26; Mr 1:40; Lu 5:12; Ac 10:25) 3 And Jesus[2] stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” (Le 14:2; Mt 9:30; Mt 10:18; Mt 12:16; Mt 17:9; Mt 24:14; Mr 1:34; Mr 5:43; Mr 6:11; Mr 7:36; Mr 8:26; Lu 9:5; Lu 17:14; Jas 5:3) 



5 When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, (Lu 7:1) 6 “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” 7 And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. (Ps 107:20; Mt 8:16) 9 For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant,[3] ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel[4] have I found such faith. (Mt 9:2; Mr 6:6) 11 I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, (Isa 59:19; Mal 1:11; Lu 13:29; Eph 3:6) 12 while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Mt 13:42; Mt 13:50; Mt 19:30; Mt 21:41; Mt 21:43; Mt 22:13; Mt 24:51; Mt 25:30; Lu 13:28) 13 And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment. (Mt 9:22; Mt 9:29; Joh 4:53) 



14 And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. (Mr 1:29; Lu 4:38; 1Co 9:5) 15 He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him. (Mt 9:25) 16 That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. (Mt 4:24; Mt 8:8; Mt 8:28; Mt 8:33) 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.” (Isa 53:4; Mt 1:22) 



18 Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. (Mt 14:22; Mr 4:35; Lu 8:22; Joh 6:15) 19 And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” (Lu 9:57) 20 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 21 Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 22 And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” (Joh 5:25) 



23 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. (Mr 4:36; Lu 8:22; Joh 6:16) 24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. (Joh 4:6) 25 And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” (Mt 14:30) 26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. (Job 38:11; Ps 65:7; Ps 104:6; Mt 6:30; Mt 14:32; Lu 4:39; Joh 14:27) 27 And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?” (Mr 1:27; Lu 5:9) 



28 And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes,[5] two demon-possessed[6] men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. (Mt 8:16; Mr 5:1; Lu 8:26; Re 18:2) 29 And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?” (Mt 4:3; Mt 4:6; Mt 14:33; Mr 1:23; Mr 1:26; Lu 4:34; Ac 8:7; Re 12:12) 30 Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them. 31 And the demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.” 32 And he said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters. 33 The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, especially what had happened to the demon-possessed men. (Mt 8:16) 34 And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region. (1Ki 17:18; Lu 5:8; Ac 16:39)

1 Als Jesus von dem Berg herabstieg, folgten ihm viele Menschen nach. (Mr 1:40; Lu 5:12) 2 Und siehe, da kam ein Aussätziger, fiel vor ihm nieder und sagte: Herr, wenn du willst, kannst du mich rein machen. 3 Jesus streckte die Hand aus, berührte ihn und sagte: Ich will - werde rein! Im gleichen Augenblick wurde der Aussätzige rein. 4 Jesus aber sagte zu ihm: Nimm dich in Acht! Erzähl niemandem davon, sondern geh, zeig dich dem Priester und bring das Opfer dar, das Mose angeordnet hat - ihnen zum Zeugnis! (Le 13:49; Le 14:2) 



5 Als er nach Kafarnaum kam, trat ein Hauptmann an ihn heran und bat ihn: (Mt 5:1; Joh 4:46) 6 Herr, mein Diener liegt gelähmt zu Hause und hat große Schmerzen. 7 Jesus sagte zu ihm: Ich will kommen und ihn heilen.[1] 8 Und der Hauptmann antwortete: Herr, ich bin es nicht wert, dass du unter mein Dach einkehrst; aber sprich nur ein Wort, dann wird mein Diener gesund! 9 Denn auch ich muss Befehlen gehorchen und ich habe selbst Soldaten unter mir; sage ich nun zu einem: Geh!, so geht er, und zu einem andern: Komm!, so kommt er, und zu meinem Diener: Tu das!, so tut er es. 10 Jesus war erstaunt, als er das hörte, und sagte zu denen, die ihm nachfolgten: Amen, ich sage euch: Einen solchen Glauben habe ich in Israel noch bei niemandem gefunden. 11 Ich sage euch: Viele werden von Osten und Westen kommen und mit Abraham, Isaak und Jakob im Himmelreich zu Tisch sitzen; (Lu 13:28) 12 aber die Söhne des Reiches werden hinausgeworfen in die äußerste Finsternis; dort wird Heulen und Zähneknirschen sein. (Mt 13:42; Mt 22:13; Mt 24:51; Mt 25:30) 13 Und zum Hauptmann sagte Jesus: Geh! Es soll dir geschehen, wie du geglaubt hast. Und in derselben Stunde wurde sein Diener gesund. 



14 Jesus ging in das Haus des Petrus und sah dessen Schwiegermutter mit Fieber daniederliegen. (Mr 1:29; Lu 4:38) 15 Da berührte er ihre Hand und das Fieber wich von ihr, sie stand auf und diente ihm. 



16 Am Abend brachte man viele Besessene zu ihm. Er trieb mit seinem Wort die Geister aus und heilte alle Kranken, (Mr 1:32; Lu 4:40) 17 damit sich erfüllen sollte, was durch den Propheten Jesaja gesagt worden ist: Er hat unsere Leiden auf sich genommen und unsere Krankheiten getragen. (Isa 53:4) 



18 Als Jesus die Menge sah, die um ihn war, befahl er, ans andere Ufer zu fahren. 19 Da kam ein Schriftgelehrter zu ihm und sagte: Meister, ich will dir nachfolgen, wohin du auch gehst. (Lu 9:57) 20 Jesus antwortete ihm: Die Füchse haben Höhlen und die Vögel des Himmels Nester; der Menschensohn aber hat keinen Ort, wo er sein Haupt hinlegen kann. 21 Ein anderer aber, einer seiner Jünger, sagte zu ihm: Herr, lass mich zuerst weggehen und meinen Vater begraben. 22 Jesus erwiderte: Folge mir nach; lass die Toten ihre Toten begraben! (Mt 4:19; Mt 9:9; Mt 19:21; Mr 1:17; Mr 2:14; Mr 10:21; Lu 5:27; Lu 9:23; Lu 18:22; Joh 1:43; Joh 21:19) 



23 Er stieg in das Boot und seine Jünger folgten ihm nach. (Mr 4:35; Lu 8:22) 24 Und siehe, es erhob sich auf dem See ein gewaltiger Sturm, sodass das Boot von den Wellen überflutet wurde. Jesus aber schlief. 25 Da traten die Jünger zu ihm und weckten ihn; sie riefen: Herr, rette uns, wir gehen zugrunde! (Mt 14:30) 26 Er sagte zu ihnen: Warum habt ihr solche Angst, ihr Kleingläubigen? Dann stand er auf, drohte den Winden und dem See und es trat völlige Stille ein. (Mt 14:31; Mr 6:51) 27 Die Menschen aber staunten und sagten: Was für einer ist dieser, dass ihm sogar die Winde und der See gehorchen? 



28 Als Jesus an das andere Ufer kam, in das Gebiet der Gadarener, liefen ihm aus den Grabhöhlen zwei Besessene entgegen. Sie waren so gefährlich, dass niemand auf jenem Weg entlanggehen konnte. (Mr 5:1; Lu 8:26) 29 Und siehe, sie schrien: Was haben wir mit dir zu tun, Sohn Gottes? Bist du hierhergekommen, um uns vor der Zeit zu quälen? (Jud 11:12; 1Ki 17:18; 2Ki 3:13; 2Ch 35:21; Ho 14:9; Mr 1:24; Lu 4:34; Joh 2:4) 30 In einiger Entfernung weidete eine große Schweineherde. 31 Da baten ihn die Dämonen: Wenn du uns austreibst, dann schick uns in die Schweineherde! 32 Und er sagte zu ihnen: Weg mit euch! Die aber fuhren aus und in die Schweine hinein. Und siehe, die ganze Herde stürmte den Abhang hinab in den See und kam in den Fluten um. 33 Die Hirten aber flohen, liefen in die Stadt und erzählten alles, auch das, was mit den Besessenen geschehen war. 34 Und siehe, die ganze Stadt zog hinaus, um Jesus zu begegnen; als sie ihn sahen, baten sie ihn, ihr Gebiet zu verlassen.

1 Quand Jésus descendit de la montagne, une foule nombreuse le suivit. (Mr 1:40; Lu 5:12) 2 Et voici qu’un lépreux s’approcha et se prosterna devant lui en disant: Seigneur, si tu le veux, tu peux me rendre pur[1]. 3 Jésus tendit la main et le toucha en disant: Je le veux, sois pur. Aussitôt, il fut purifié de sa lèpre. 4 – Attention, lui dit Jésus, ne le dis à personne; mais va te faire examiner par le prêtre et apporte l’offrande prescrite par Moïse. Cela leur servira de témoignage[2]. (Lu 7:1) 5 Jésus entrait à Capernaüm, quand un officier romain l’aborda. 6 Il le supplia: Seigneur, mon serviteur est couché chez moi, il est paralysé, il souffre terriblement. 7 – Je vais chez toi, lui répondit Jésus, et je le guérirai. 8 – Seigneur, dit alors l’officier, je ne remplis pas les conditions[3] pour te recevoir dans ma maison, mais tu n’as qu’un mot à dire et mon serviteur sera guéri. (Mt 3:11) 9 Car, moi-même, je suis un officier subalterne, mais j’ai des soldats sous mes ordres, et quand je dis à l’un: « Va! », il va. Quand je dis à un autre: « Viens! », il vient. Quand je dis à mon esclave: « Fais ceci! », il le fait. 10 En entendant cela, Jésus fut rempli d’admiration et, s’adressant à ceux qui le suivaient, il dit: Vraiment, je vous l’assure: chez personne, en Israël, je n’ai trouvé une telle foi! 11 Je vous le déclare: beaucoup viendront de l’Orient et de l’Occident et prendront place à table auprès d’Abraham, d’Isaac et de Jacob, dans le royaume des cieux. 12 Mais ceux qui devaient hériter du royaume, ceux-là seront jetés dans les ténèbres du dehors. Là, il y aura des pleurs et d’amers regrets. 13 Puis Jésus dit à l’officier: Rentre chez toi et qu’il te soit fait selon ce que tu as cru. Et, à l’heure même, son serviteur fut guéri. 



14 Jésus se rendit alors à la maison de Pierre. Il trouva la belle-mère de celui-ci alitée, avec une forte fièvre. (Mr 1:29; Lu 4:38) 15 Il lui prit la main, et la fièvre la quitta. Alors elle se leva et se mit à le servir. 16 Le soir venu, on lui amena beaucoup de gens qui étaient sous l’emprise de démons: par sa parole, il chassa ces esprits mauvais. Il guérit aussi tous les malades. 17 Ainsi s’accomplissait cette parole du prophète Esaïe: Il s’est chargé de nos infirmités et il a porté nos maladies[4]. (Isa 53:4) 



18 Lorsque Jésus se vit entouré d’une foule nombreuse, il donna ordre à ses disciples de passer de l’autre côté du lac. (Lu 9:57) 19 Un spécialiste de la Loi s’approcha et lui dit: Maître, je te suivrai partout où tu iras. 20 Jésus lui répondit: Les renards ont des tanières et les oiseaux du ciel des nids; mais le Fils de l’homme n’a pas d’endroit où reposer sa tête. 21 – Seigneur, lui dit un autre qui était de ses disciples, permets-moi d’aller d’abord enterrer mon père. 22 Mais Jésus lui répondit: Suis-moi et laisse à ceux qui sont morts le soin d’enterrer leurs morts. 



23 Il monta dans un bateau et ses disciples le suivirent. (Mr 4:35; Lu 8:22) 24 Tout à coup, une grande tempête se leva sur le lac et les vagues passaient par-dessus le bateau. Pendant ce temps, Jésus dormait. 25 Les disciples s’approchèrent de lui et le réveillèrent en criant: Seigneur, sauve-nous, nous sommes perdus! 26 – Pourquoi avez-vous si peur? leur dit-il. Votre foi est bien petite! Alors il se leva, parla sévèrement au vent et au lac, et il se fit un grand calme. 27 Saisis d’étonnement, ceux qui étaient présents disaient: Quel est donc cet homme pour que même les vents et le lac lui obéissent? 



28 Quand il fut arrivé de l’autre côté du lac, dans la région de Gadara[5], deux hommes qui étaient sous l’emprise de démons sortirent des tombeaux et vinrent à sa rencontre. Ils étaient si dangereux que personne n’osait plus passer par ce chemin. (Mr 5:1; Lu 8:26) 29 Et voici qu’ils se mirent à crier: Que nous veux-tu, Fils de Dieu? Es-tu venu nous tourmenter avant le temps? 30 Or, il y avait, à quelque distance de là, un grand troupeau de porcs[6] en train de paître. (Le 11:7) 31 Les démons supplièrent Jésus: Si tu veux nous chasser, envoie-nous dans ce troupeau de porcs. 32 – Allez! leur dit-il. Les démons sortirent de ces deux hommes et entrèrent dans les porcs. Aussitôt, tout le troupeau s’élança du haut de la pente et se précipita dans le lac, et toutes les bêtes périrent noyées. 33 Les gardiens du troupeau s’enfuirent, coururent à la ville et allèrent raconter tout ce qui s’était passé, en particulier ce qui était arrivé aux deux hommes qui étaient sous l’emprise de démons. 34 Là-dessus, tous les habitants de la ville sortirent à la rencontre de Jésus et, quand ils le virent, le supplièrent de quitter leur territoire.
