1 To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Miktam[1] of David, when he fled from Saul, in the cave. Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. (1Sa 22:1; 1Sa 24:1; Ps 4:1; Ps 16:1; Ps 17:8; Ps 56:1; Ps 58:1; Ps 59:1; Ps 75:1; Ps 91:4; Ps 142:1; Isa 26:20)2 I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me. (Ps 138:8)3 He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me. God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness! (Ps 18:16; Ps 36:5; Ps 40:11; Ps 43:3; Ps 56:1; Ps 144:5; Ps 144:7)4 My soul is in the midst of lions; I lie down amid fiery beasts— the children of man, whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.
