1The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought: (Jer 17:8)2“Judah mourns, and her gates languish; her people lament on the ground, and the cry of Jerusalem goes up. (1Sa 5:12; Isa 3:26; La 1:4; La 2:8)3Her nobles send their servants for water; they come to the cisterns; they find no water; they return with their vessels empty; they are ashamed and confounded and cover their heads. (2Sa 15:30; Ps 40:14)4Because of the ground that is dismayed, since there is no rain on the land, the farmers are ashamed; they cover their heads. (Jer 3:3)5Even the doe in the field forsakes her newborn fawn because there is no grass. (Job 39:1; Ps 29:9)6The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights; they pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail because there is no vegetation. (Jer 2:24)7“Though our iniquities testify against us, act, O Lord, for your name’s sake; for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against you. (Ps 25:11; Jer 2:19; Jer 14:20; Jer 14:21)8O you hope of Israel, its savior in time of trouble, why should you be like a stranger in the land, like a traveler who turns aside to tarry for a night? (Ps 71:5; Jer 17:13; Jer 50:7)9Why should you be like a man confused, like a mighty warrior who cannot save? Yet you, O Lord, are in the midst of us, and we are called by your name; do not leave us.” (Ex 29:45; Ps 119:121; Isa 59:1; Da 9:18; Eph 3:15)10Thus says the Lord concerning this people: “They have loved to wander thus; they have not restrained their feet; therefore the Lord does not accept them; now he will remember their iniquity and punish their sins.” (Ho 8:13; Ho 9:9)11The Lord said to me: “Do not pray for the welfare of this people. (Jer 7:16)12Though they fast, I will not hear their cry, and though they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I will not accept them. Lying Prophets
13Then I said: “Ah, Lord God, behold, the prophets say to them, ‘You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’” (Jer 4:10; Jer 6:14)14And the Lord said to me: “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, worthless divination, and the deceit of their own minds. (De 18:20; Jer 5:31; Jer 23:21; Jer 23:26; Jer 27:9; Jer 27:15; Jer 29:8; Eze 13:6; Mt 7:15; Mr 13:22)15Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name although I did not send them, and who say, ‘Sword and famine shall not come upon this land’: By sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed. (Jer 14:12; Jer 14:14; Jer 23:34)16And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem, victims of famine and sword, with none to bury them—them, their wives, their sons, and their daughters. For I will pour out their evil upon them. (Ps 79:3)17“You shall say to them this word: ‘Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease, for the virgin daughter of my people is shattered with a great wound, with a very grievous blow. (Jer 8:21; Jer 10:19; Jer 13:17; Jer 30:12)18If I go out into the field, behold, those pierced by the sword! And if I enter the city, behold, the diseases of famine! For both prophet and priest ply their trade through the land and have no knowledge.’” (Jer 5:31; Eze 7:15)19Have you utterly rejected Judah? Does your soul loathe Zion? Why have you struck us down so that there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; for a time of healing, but behold, terror. (Jer 8:15; Jer 15:18; La 5:22)20We acknowledge our wickedness, O Lord, and the iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against you. (Ps 106:6; Da 9:5; Da 9:8)21Do not spurn us, for your name’s sake; do not dishonor your glorious throne; remember and do not break your covenant with us. (Le 26:42; Ps 106:45; Jer 14:7)22Are there any among the false gods of the nations that can bring rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are you not he, O Lord our God? 1YHVH me respondió: Aunque estuvieran delante Moisés y Samuel no me conmovería por este pueblo. ¡Échalos, que salgan de mi presencia!2Y si te preguntan: ¿A dónde saldremos? les dirás: Así dice YHVH: ¡El destinado a muerte, a muerte, El destinado a espada, a espada, El destinado a hambre, a hambre, El destinado a cautiverio, a cautiverio!3Señalaré sobre ellos cuatro linajes de azotes, dice YHVH: La espada para matar, los perros para despedazar, y las aves del cielo y las bestias de la tierra para devorar y destruir.4Los haré escarmiento de todos los reinos de la tierra, a causa de Manasés ben Ezequías, rey de Judá, por todo lo que hizo en Jerusalem.5Oh Jerusalem, ¿quién tendrá piedad de ti? ¿Quién te compadecerá? ¿Quién se desviará para preguntar acerca de ti?6Tú me rechazaste, te volviste atrás, dice YHVH; Y Yo extendí mi brazo para aniquilarte. Destruiré a mi pueblo, Porque no se han vuelto de sus caminos.8Sus viudas me serán más que la arena del mar; Traeré contra madres e hijos al devastador, Que devastará en pleno día, Y súbitamente haré caer sobre ellos la angustia y el espanto.9La que dio a luz siete desfallecerá y exhalará el alma: Su sol se pondrá siendo aún de día, Será avergonzada y confundida. Y el resto lo entregaré a la espada enemiga, dice YHVH.10¡Ay de mí, madre mía, Que me concebiste varón de contienda, Varón de discordia para toda esta tierra! Ni he prestado ni me han prestado, Pero cada uno de ellos me maldice.11¡Sea así, oh YHVH, Si no te he rogado por su bien, Si no he intercedido en favor de mi enemigo, En tiempo de aflicción y en época de angustia!12¿Quién podrá romper el hierro, El hierro del norte, y el bronce?13Entregaré tus bienes y tus tesoros al saqueo, Y no por precio, sino por todos tus pecados en todo tu territorio,14Y haré que pasen con tus enemigos, A una tierra que tú no conoces, Pues mi ira se ha encendido en un fuego que arderá contra vosotros.
Diálogo
15¡Oh YHVH, Tú lo sabes todo! Acuérdate de mí, y visítame, Y hazme justicia de mis perseguidores; No me arrebates a causa de tu gran paciencia, Sabes que por ti soporto afrentas.16Fueron halladas tus palabras, y yo las comí; Y tu Palabra fue para mí el gozo y la alegría de mi corazón, Porque tu Nombre es invocado sobre mí, ¡Oh YHVH, ’Elohim Sebaot!17No me senté a disfrutar con los que se divertían, Forzado por tu mano me he sentado solitario, Porque me llenaste de indignación.18¿Por qué es perpetuo mi dolor, Y mi herida, incurable, rehúsa ser sanada? ¿Serás para mí como algo ilusorio, Como aguas que no son estables?19Entonces me respondió YHVH: Si te vuelves, Yo te restauraré, Para que puedas estar en pie delante de mi presencia; Si apartas lo precioso de lo vil, Serás mi boca. ¡Conviértanse ellos a ti, Y no te conviertas tú a ellos!20Y te pondré frente a este pueblo por muro de bronce inexpugnable; Pelearán contra ti, pero no te vencerán, Porque Yo estoy contigo para librarte y salvarte, dice YHVH.21Te libraré de mano de los perversos, Te rescataré del puño del opresor.22Entre las vanidades de los gentiles, ¿Hay quien haga llover? ¿O pueden los cielos mismos dar aguaceros? ¿Acaso, oh YHVH, no eres Tú el Dios nuestro? Esperaremos, pues, en ti, Porque Tú haces todas estas cosas.
