Moses Given Powerful Signs

1 Then Moses answered, “But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you.’” 2 The Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A staff.” (Ex 4:17; Ex 4:20) 3 And he said, “Throw it on the ground.” So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent, and Moses ran from it. 4 But the Lord said to Moses, “Put out your hand and catch it by the tail”—so he put out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand— 5 “that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.” (Ex 3:6; Ex 19:9) 6 Again, the Lord said to him, “Put your hand inside your cloak.”^[1] And he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous^[2] like snow. (Nu 12:10; 2Ki 5:27) 7 Then God said, “Put your hand back inside your cloak.” So he put his hand back inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, it was restored like the rest of his flesh. (2Ki 5:14) 8 “If they will not believe you,” God said, “or listen to the first sign, they may believe the latter sign. 9 If they will not believe even these two signs or listen to your voice, you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground, and the water that you shall take from the Nile will become blood on the dry ground.” (Ex 7:19) 10 But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” (Ex 6:12; Jer 1:6) 11 Then the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” (Ex 3:12; Isa 50:4; Jer 1:9; Eze 33:22; Mt 10:19; Mr 13:11; Lu 12:11; Lu 21:15)

13 But he said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.” 14 Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses and he said, “Is there not Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Behold, he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. (Ex 4:27) 15 You shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth, and I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you both what to do. 16 He shall speak for you to the people, and he shall be your mouth, and you shall be as God to him. (Ex 4:30; Ex 7:1; Ex 18:19) 17 And take in your hand this staff, with which you shall do the signs.” (Ex 4:2; Ex 7:15)

Moses Returns to Egypt

18 Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, “Please let me go back to my brothers in Egypt to see whether they are still alive.” And Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.” (Ex 2:18) 19 And the Lord said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all the men who were seeking your life are dead.” (Ex 2:15; Ex 2:23; Mt 2:20) 20 So Moses took his wife and his sons and had them ride on a donkey, and went back to the land of Egypt. And Moses took the staff of God in his hand. (Ex 17:9; Ex 18:2; Nu 20:8) 21 And the Lord said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the miracles that I have put in your power. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go. (Ex 3:20; Ex 7:13; Ex 7:22; Ex 8:15; Ex 8:32; Ex 9:12; Ex 9:35; Ex 10:1; Ex 14:8; De 2:30; Jos 11:20; Isa 63:17; Ro 9:17)

22 Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord, Israel is my firstborn son, (Jer 31:9; Ho 11:1) 23 and I say to you, “Let my son go that he may serve me.” If you refuse to let him go, behold, I will kill your firstborn son.’” (Ex 11:5; Ex 12:29) 24 At a lodging place on the way the Lord met him and sought to put him to death. (Ge 17:14; Nu 22:22; 1Ch 21:16) 25 Then Zipporah took a flint and cut off her son’s foreskin and touched Moses’^[3] feet with it and said, “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me!” (Ex 2:21; Jos 5:2) 26 So he let him alone. It was then that she said, “A bridegroom of blood,” because of the circumcision. 27 The Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” So he went and met him at the mountain of God and kissed him. (Ex 3:1; Ex 4:14) 28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord with which he had sent him to speak, and all the signs that he had commanded him to do. (Ex 4:3; Ex 4:15) 29 Then Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the people of Israel. (Ex 3:16) 30 Aaron spoke all the words that the Lord had spoken to Moses and did the signs in the sight of the people. (Ex 4:16) 31 And the people believed; and when they heard that the Lord had visited the people of Israel and that he had seen their affliction, they bowed their heads and worshiped. Misión de Moisés El regreso a Egipto

1 Pero Moisés respondió, y dijo: ¿Y qué si no me creen, ni atienden mi voz, sino que dicen: YHVH no se te ha aparecido? 2 Entonces YHVH le dijo: ¿Qué es eso que tienes en tu mano? Y él respondió: Una vara. 3 Él le dijo: Arrójala al suelo. Y él la arrojó a la tierra, y se convirtió en una serpiente, y al verla Moisés huyó. 4 Pero YHVH dijo a Moisés: Extiende tu mano y atrápala por su cola. Él alargando su mano, la sujetó, y se tornó vara en su palma. 5 Esto es para que crean que YHVH, el Dios de tus padres, Dios de Abraham, Dios de Isaac y Dios de Jacob se te ha aparecido. 6 Y otra vez le dijo YHVH: Mete ahora tu mano en tu seno. Y él metió su mano en su seno, y cuando la sacó, he aquí su mano estaba leprosa como la nieve. 7 Y dijo: Vuelve a meter tu mano en tu seno. Y él volvió su mano a su seno, y cuando la sacó de su seno, he aquí volvió a ser como su carne. 8 Y sucederá que si no te creen, ni obedecen la advertencia de la primera señal, creerán la advertencia de la última señal. 9 Y si tampoco creen a estas dos señales, ni obedecen tu advertencia, tomarás entonces de las aguas del Nilo y las derramarás sobre lo seco, y las aguas que saques del Nilo se convertirán en sangre sobre el suelo seco. 10 Dijo entonces Moisés a YHVH: ¡Te ruego, Adonay! No soy hombre elocuente ni ayer ni anteayer, ni desde que hablaste a tu siervo, pues soy torpe de boca y torpe de lengua. 11 Pero YHVH le respondió: ¿Y quién ha dado boca al hombre? ¿O quién hizo al mudo y al sordo, al vidente y al ciego? ¿No soy Yo YHVH? 12 Ahora pues, ve, y Yo estaré con tu boca, y te instruiré acerca de lo que hablarás. 13 Pero él respondió: ¡Te ruego, Adonay! Envía, te ruego, por medio del que debas enviar. 14 Entonces la ira de YHVH se encendió contra Moisés, y dijo: ¿No es Aarón el levita tu hermano? Yo sé que ciertamente él hablará, y también he aquí, él sale a tu encuentro. Cuando él te vea, se alegrará en su corazón. 15 Hablarás pues con él, y pondrás las palabras en su boca, y Yo estaré con tu boca y con su boca, y os enseñaré lo que debáis hacer. 16 Él hablará por ti al pueblo, y te servirá de vocero, y tú le serás por Dios. 17 Toma en tu mano esta vara, con la cual harás las señales. 18 Entonces fue Moisés y volvió a su suegro Jetro, y le dijo: Me marcharé ahora y volveré con mis hermanos que están en Egipto, y veré si aún viven. Y Jetro dijo a Moisés: Ve en paz. 19 YHVH había dicho a Moisés en Madián: Ve, vuelve a Egipto, porque han muerto todos los que buscaban tu vida. 20 Tomó, pues, Moisés a su mujer y sus hijos, los hizo montar sobre el asno, y regresó a la tierra de Egipto. Y tomó Moisés la vara de Dios en su mano, 21 pues YHVH había dicho a Moisés: Cuando vuelvas a Egipto considera todos los prodigios que he puesto en tu mano, y los harás en presencia de Faraón, aunque Yo mismo endureceré su corazón, y no dejará ir al pueblo. 22 Y dirás a Faraón: Así ha dicho YHVH: Israel es mi hijo, mi primogénito, 23 y te digo: Deja ir a mi hijo para que me sirva; pero tú rehusarás dejarlo ir. He aquí Yo voy a matar a tu hijo, tu primogénito. 24 Y ocurrió por el camino, en una posada, que YHVH le salió al encuentro y procuró hacerlo morir. 25 Pero Séfora, tomando un pedernal afilado, cortó el prepucio de su hijo, y tirándolo a los pies de él, dijo: ¡Realmente me eres esposo de sangre! 26 Entonces se apartó de él, mientras ella decía: Esposo de sangre eres, por la circuncisión. 27 Y YHVH había dicho a Aarón: Ve al desierto al encuentro de Moisés. Y él fue y lo encontró en el monte de Dios, y lo besó. 28 Y Moisés declaró a Aarón todas las palabras con que YHVH lo había enviado, y todas las señales que le había ordenado. 29 Fueron Moisés y Aarón y reunieron a todos los ancianos de los hijos de Israel. 30 Luego habló Aarón todas las palabras que YHVH había hablado a Moisés, e hizo las señales ante los ojos del pueblo. 31 El pueblo creyó, y al oír que YHVH se ocupaba de los hijos de Israel, y había visto su aflicción, hicieron reverencia y se postraron.
